  1. Thanks guys, Back from the GMAT appointment. Total score 740. I expected atleast more than 750. But after speaking to my Girl Friend have decideed, what the heck. If I am to get into stanford, I probably have about similar chances as I would have had if it was 750. So in any case, its to applications now. In case any one's interested, my ONLY preperation for BOTH the papers was the Kaplan GMAT Premier program bbok and CD. And Powerprep yeah... Tht one was for free. :) See ya guys then. Best of luck for your tests. Cheers!
  2. Hi group, Wanted to share this with you. Just got my Toefl score report. And boy did it cause some confusion. My Dad who picked up the mail was horrified. Apparantly yours truely scored a perfect score:grad: . But Dad though that I had screwed up the registration or something and hence the scorecard showed only the max scores. So well I am happy to report a 30-30-30-6 giving me a 300-6. However, no time to celebrate. In exactly 9 hours, and the bombs ticking away, I have the GMAT appointment. Depending on my state of mind after the test, which could range from elated to suicidal ;), I will post again. Till then crossed fingers, ADS

  4. Hey Erin, I understand that this time round they're gonna add 2 seperate work books for Quant and Verbal. Also, the questions in the new software will be different from those in the book. However, the supplements will have the same questions as the 10th edition. The test format as far as I know remains unchanged. So overall, assuming these assumptions are correct, would you have gone on to buy the 10th edition only or 11th edition and suplements or 11th and 10th BOTH? I need to get started on the Prep NOW, and I'm trying to decide if it's worth waiting for the 11th edition or not. Thanks
  5. P(aVb)=P(a)+P(b)-P(a^b) we need, P(a^b)=P(a)+P(b)-P(aVb) = 75+55-P(aVb) --(1) we have S-P(aVb)=20 (where S is total=100) => P(aVb)=80 Hence, (1) evaluates to 130-80=50. Is that the answer? And best of luck!
  6. With s speed, d distance and t time we have, s*t=d --- (1) From given condition, (t+1)(s+5)=d+70 => ts+5t+s+5=d+70 => d+5t+s+5=d+70 (using 1) => 5t+s=65 --- (2) Asked is, (t+2)(s+10)=d+x where x is the extra distance => ts+10t+2s+20=d+x => d+10t+2s+20=d+x ---(using 1) => 10t+2s=x-20 => 2(5t+s)=x-20 => 2*65=x-20 => x = 130+20 = 150
  7. I did it this way: 5c3 is the ways you can choose 3 rainy days of 5, in no order, = 10 Total number of ways that it can or cannot rain = 2^5 (each day can have 2 results)=32 Prob = 10/32 = 5/16.
  8. Hi Guys/Gals, I gave my GRE in Nov 2002 (The New Version) and had got 1440. TOEFL CBT I had managed 297. Somehow things didn't work out and I've been working at a lot of things in the meanwhile. But now I plan to get back. I'm planning for an early September GRE, GMAT and TOEFL. And I'll need help. As I see from my preliminary search, the formats haven't changed much. But Hell I'll need practice. I remember from my last GRE where I had Q:790 and V:650, that I need to work on the V part. Besides, since this time I plan to go for GMAT as well (and that being the principal target as well), I think I'm ready fro a whole new ball game at practice. I've seen some very good posts already, but the first thing that I'm trying to figure is my study plan. Like some of others here, I too work 9-6( add one hr each side for travel) leaving me 2-3 hours a day, except on weekends where it could be more. And although I may have sounded cocky in the subject, it's more of determination than confidence. Ashish Dutt Sharma
