    VISA help:

ikhlas, please check with your school. i really dont know where to find this number. i assume it must be on the I20, but please refer your school. Sorry cant be much help on this one.
  2. I dont think it will do any harm. If the situation wasnt too personal then explain it to thm if asked. or you may also explain it as personal/family problems. I dont know what you went through and I dont want to sound arrogant; However, I would say you holding back from leaving your home country at an early age might even establish your family ties. Good Luck.

    VISA help:

ikhlas, I think all international students (new) who are coming to states for the firt time have to pay a $100 fee for I20 proccessing. There is a new centralized system called Sevis which most universities use when the generate I20. If you were a student in US before sept 2004 and havent gone out of states for more than 5 mothns then you are expempt from this fee. If you wish, I would recommend to read more about this on the sites that Avani mentioned a couple of posts earlier in this same thread. The information and fee of $100 is for students from India. I am not sure about other countries. Good luck. Thanks.

Avani, Thanks. those were comforting, especially with only 1 day wait time at Mumbai.

    VISA help:

Well, international undergraduates students who want to keep going with their masters usually take a break after graduation. In my case I took OPT and continued working, now my OPT and Visa expire in May. I understand that I can legally stay until my next semester. But to spend the summer in states without doing anything does not appeal to me. Plus I "have to" see my family. My seniors have been in the same situation but back then there was the "drop box" facility. Thats the reason probably no one has heard of this. However my real question was are the visa dates a lot delayed in Mumbai. Or will it be easy to get a date within a weeks time. But anyways, I understand your thought ( Anita) and really appriciate your time. Thank you. I will post my interview. Thanks all.

    VISA help:

Thanks Anita, I had considered that. But I have to go back. I know I am risking it. Have you heard of any continuing students being rejected?
  7. If they ask dont worry. Make sure you express how important it is for you to do that masters program, and only in that univ. You dont mind talking a few extra courses as a pre requisite for your masters.

Thanks for your help. !! I had heard that the dates are just a few days delayed. But it looks like they are getting delayed for good 15-20 days? If anyone has more to add please do so. And thanks again for your help!
  9. Hi all, I have received an TA offer for MS. I have done my BS from this same school. I also happened to work here in states after my UG graduation (legally). My question is, Will the officer ask me to show financial documents for 2nd year? If they do ask, should I show the money I earned in US or ask my parents to show that amount from India. Please help! Thanks for your time, Anand
  10. In the I20 the amount shown is for one year. You must also be able to show same amount for the second year. If you have liquid cash then just double the I20 amount and show it in your statement. And.. No... showing more than required will not get you in trouble, they will just think you are well off. I have a question too. If you have full fundying do they ask for second year? Will it negate my chances if I show the money I earned on opt in US for my second year. Thanks.

    VISA help:

Hello, I am at present in the US working on my OPT which expires May 31st. I have done my BS here and now I am joining the same university from Fall 05 for my masters. I will need a new Visa as my previous 5 years visa has expired. I am returning to India on May 26th. Please confirm: I have checked and the university has told me that I will dont have to pay the Sevis fee? Will I be able to get an appointment in June or July, if I go to the office to schedule on 26th may? I have no family members in Mumbai, I would really appreciate if any one could tell me the delay situation at present? Will I need any other documents than the usual ones because of my "continuing student" or "worked on OPT and CPT" status? Please help me with any of the above concerns. I will really appreciate any help. Thanks for your time. Anand
