  1. Combining atoms at room temperature may be possible one day, but such a feat has never been verifiably performed. (A) Combining atoms at room temperature may be possible one day (B) One day, it may be possible to combine atoms at the temperature of a room © The combination of atoms at room temperature may one day be possible (D) It may one day be possible to combine atoms at room temperature (E) Combining atoms at room temperature may one day be possible Please provide explanation for your answer.
  2. OA is E. Parallelism: most scientists view.... but believe .... D is wrong, since it lacks the conjunction "that" after "believe"
  3. Most scientists surveyed view artificial sweeteners as unsafe at present but they will be or could, be made adequately safe in the future. (A) they will be or could (B) that they will, or could, © that they would, or could, (D) believe the sweeteners would or could (E) believe that they will be or could I appreciate the explanation for the answer that you choose.
  4. Thanks all! Though the question seems easy after reading asdada1's explanation, the reasoning offered by the source, which is Kaplan, is too convoluted. Anyway, the OA is C.
  5. Swiss_boy and asdada1: Thanks for shedding light. Yes, GMATPrep review says, "sqrt(x^2) denotes the nonnegative square root of x^2, so sqrt(x^2) = |x|". At the outset, I concluded that positve 1 is the only answer. But, negative 1 is also the answer: sqrt(x^2) / x = (+x or -x) / x = -1 or 1. Thus, the question cannot be answered conclusively. However, choice E gives a conclusive answer.
  6. Is most of the land in City A zoned residential? (1) All land in City A is zoned as either residential or commerical (2) The proportion of land in City A zoned commerical could be tripled. I am baffled by the answer and its reasons. Please try answering and provide explanations. I'll post the OA soon.
  7. If x 0, then sqrt(x^2) / x = ? (A) -1 (B) 0 © 1 (D) x (E) |x|/x I thought the answer is C, but I was wrong. Anyone, please explain how to solve this? This question is from an official source. OA:
  8. Friends, Has anyone tried GMAT Advanced Classroom Course by Kaplan? In addition, does anyone know what Target 800 workshop is, and how helpful it is? The description from Kaplan website is this: "The GMAT Advanced Classroom course is for students already scoring 650 and above who are targeting scores in the 700s. All enrollees will be contacted by the Kaplan Center to provide an existing GMAT score or to take a Kaplan practice test to qualify. This class is only available in select markets." I know that lot of people in this forum are not satisfied with Kaplan's classroom courses. The main complaint is that the course does not give much for the students who aspire to score above 700. Instead, it just caters to 600-650 range aspirants. It seems that finally Kaplan realizes the need of 700+ wannabes and come with this course structure. If you have tried already, would you recommend this to others? Share your thoughts.
  9. Terra_novascott and Bulls_eye, it's a good catch that choice C misses "that" after "said". The OA is D. However, the OE is different. OE: Choice © is tempting, except that a company cannot actually say anything; it is an entity, and so "it said" is incorrect. Choice (D) specifies a spokesperson as the speaker, making the sentence clear. The question is from Kaplan Qbank. Any thoughts about "Company refused" vis-a-vis "It said"?
  10. That's exactly right. The OA is C = 1/7.
  11. OA is C. Explanation: Follow chix475ntu

(D) The company refused to disclose the details of its meeting; rather, a spokesperson said that there would be a press release forthcoming. (E) The company refused to disclose the details of their meeting; rather, a spokesperson said that there would be a press release forthcoming. Please explain your answer. I'll post the OA in two days.
  13. Handwriting analysis has recently been boosted by the invention of 3D micro-profilometry, which can be used to calculate the pressure used at a crossover point such as the center of a figure eight, and to detect the starting and ending points of strokes not detectable via conventional 2D analysis. (A) the starting and ending points of strokes (B) the locations of starting and ending points of strokes that are © where starting and ending points are located, which are (D) where starting and ending points are located (E) where the starting and ending points are located, which are Will provide the OA in couple of days. Give reasons for your choice.
  14. I agree with you. I still go with B. Could you please explain what is the issue between "She has more skirts than I have" and "She has more skirts than I do"? I mean why "do" is preferable to "have"?
