Please share your comments for making improvements. I really need some advice.

College students should base their choice of a field of study on the availability of jobs in that field.

Response:

 

Although choosing the field of study based on the availability of jobs may sure will boost the chances of getting a job but it may not be good for an individual in the long term as studies have shown that people are motivated to work if they have some interest or liking for doing that work.

 

Choosing a field of study base on the job market may assure the individual a good job immediately after graduation but if the person is not really interested in that field then he/she won’t be able to concentrate in studies and will only try to gain superficial knowledge of that field. On the other hand if an individual has some interest then they try to learn more about that field by looking for books , journals etc . Thus, in that way they try to become experts or specialists in that field. For example: Einstein developed the theory of relativity because he was interested in that field , on the other hand if he would have been forced to study biology then may be he would not have done something so ground breaking.

 

 

Individuals choose the field of study in which there are high job prospects because they want to gain financial strength by earning more but some times they do regret for their decisions as they are not at all interested in that field which in turn affects their performance . If they do not perform well they do not climb up the organizational ladder that fast which frustrates them more, ultimately losing their interest in that job.

 

 

If individuals do not choose the field of study according to their interest then it is likely that they do not perform good in college itself which ultimately affect their grades thereby creating a bad impression on resumes, which affects their job prospects.

 

 

On the other hand choosing a field of study on the basis of job availability is not a bad decision but it affects the individual in the long term as he/ she shows lack of interest and motivation which affects their performance on the job and is also a cause of frustration for them.

Going thru your analysis, I found it to be very logical but you can enhance it by giving a few more examples like the one you have given about Einstein. Very good in reasoning...but you can elaborate more on the advantages and disadvantages which can make your essay more sound and a bit lengthy. Use some good words to express your vocab also. A rating of 3.5- 4 will be given to this essay. Please don't take it personally. Hope that helps you!..best of luck.
