Antonio
Cool! Are you moving there for the math camp?
486hunter
I'll be there for PhD in Pub Pol but doing concurrent MA in Econ. So I'll be in many of the same classes (incl math camp)
Antonio
Good! And, are you moving alone or with partner/family?
486hunter
I'm moving from Washington DC (with my girlfriend). We're going to head out there in late May/early June to look for an apartment. How about you?
Antonio
I am moving alone. I cannot be there before july...yes I know it could be late, but I have some academic stuff to finish here in Italy. I think I will try to find an on-campus accomodation...at least for the first year.

And it's definitely cheaper than an apartment in a decent part of Berkeley. I'd apply for the housing as soon as possible.
Ricardinho
Cool! Are you moving there for the math camp? Yep will be there for maths camp. I've applied for accommodation at the I-house and the other two grad residences.
MexEcon
I house is fun, I met my husband there 4 years ago. I am going for the Ag. and Resource Economics PhD and will be moving at the end of June. I already have a place one block away from Campus :D.
Ticonderoga
International House is a good place to meet new people but it quite expensive and the food sucks.
Antonio
Good to know it. Thanks. What do you suggest?
Ticonderoga
As I said if you want to meet new people I-House is a good choice. In the package the department is going to send you there is information on Berkeley's off-campus rental online list, but the service not free. Now if you know someone here then by all means ask for their help, chances are high that they would know someone looking for a housemate; at the very least, they should be able to tell you whether the apartment you have in mind from any online posting is good or not. Karina 07
For those who haven't been there yet, some pictures of the legendary view: Berkeley Pics . These aren't from the econ department, but you can get similar ones from the department common room (better, really, since then you get the campus greenery in the foreground).
