Hello everyone,

I am now considering economics research master + PhD programs in the Netherlands - mostly Tinbergen, Tilburg, Maastricht. I would be more than grateful if you could evaluate my profile.

PROFILE:

Type of Undergrad: B.A. Finance & Accounting - in the best business school in Poland (triple crown accreditation)

Type of Grad: M.A. Finance & Accounting - Corporate Finance specialisation (same as B.A.) + Master in Corporate Financial Management in France (double degree program) - expected graduation: July 2020

Cumulative GPA (undergrad): 4.8/5.0

Cumulative GPA (grad): 4.85/5.0

GRE: 168 Q / 154 V / 3.5 W

Math Courses: basic math course on undergrad (30h, grade: 5/5) - mostly matrix algebra, descriptive statistics (4.5/5)

Econ Courses undergrad: Micro (4.5/5), Macro (5/5), Political economy (5/5), Economics of the EU (4.5/5), Public Finance (4.5/5), Econometrics (5/5), Financial Markets (5/5), Banking (5/5), International finance (4.5/5)

Econ courses grad: Qual. & Quant. research methods (5/5), Modern Banking Systems (4.5/5), Advanced Macro (more like intermediary macro - Mankiw & Krugman textbooks, 5/5), Psychology of financial markets (5.5), Application of Statistics and Econometrics in Finance & Accounting (5/5, something like Econometrics II)

Letters of recommendation:

1. Assistant professor in econ department, Polish business school.

2. Assistant professor in econ department, French business school (double degree).

Both of them are keen to write me strong LoR.

Research Experience:

3 published papers:

- Empirical paper on testing efficient market hypothesis on the Polish stock exchange - published in a student journal

- Continuation of the previous paper, published in peer reviewed Polish journal, co-authored with my supervisor.

- Paper in legal sciences (not economic-related), published in peer reviewed Polish journal.

Senior honors thesis

Teaching Experience: None

Other experience: over 1 year as a credit analysis trainee in one of the biggest European banks - during full-time master studies.

Research Interests: Macroeconomics, International Economics, Policy

Programming Skills: Oracle SQL, Excel VBA, R

Other: multiple holder of the scholarships for the best students

Concerns: I am extremely willing to continue my further development in economics rather than finance. However, my background is strongly related to corporate finance, rather than economics and I am not sure how universities mentioned at the beginning will evaluate it.

If my business background does not suit any of previously mentioned universities, could you provide me with some other unis in EU, which will be more keen to accept for economics someone with business background?

Thanks!

As a faculty member at TilburgU, I would recommend that you tailor your cover letter specifically to the interests represented by the faculty members. This should increase your chances. We have the European Banking Center which houses both faculty from Finance, as well as from Econ. Stress that as well. If you have any questions about our program, I'm happy to answer those!
