Hi everybody... was away for a while after my gre.. as u know i got Q:790 and V:460 ... i was worried abt my verbal score... now i am through my toefl and got range of 233-290 and hope to get range of 4.5-5 atleast on essay... and i also received my official gre score i got 4.5 on essay.... i would really like to know if my good toefl score and gre essay score help to compensate for my low gre verbal score.. and how should i explain my low gre verbal score.??? guys please help

Quite dissapointed but positive to get decent university first i would like thank manwithmission and suja84_ibt for there wonderful contribution to my quant score.... those threads on Probability and SD helped.... I am quiet dissapointed on my verbal score used to get at least 500 in PP and other test.Here is my exam experience Quant: As it is already know to everybody now the math is getting pretty tough now... at least thougher than PP. Used to complete PP quant section in 40 mins. But here i had 3 questions in last 1 min!!!!!! i dont know how did i manage them. Some of the questions regarding comparison were tricky...... i got questions on permutation&combination .i would post the question as soon as i remember them... to start with here is a question which was 2 or 3rd and it took lot of time out of me Q1:there is set of odd integers {1,3,5,7....399} ordered set having two elements (p,t) is to be created using this set and condition is p Verbal:Verbal seemed preety easy... i should have scored at least 500 here... but luck seems to have fallen apart anyway guys stick to barrons for verbal words.... got antonyms for PELL-MELL , SPARTAN,IGNOMILY luck was not on my side so got 45 lines passage as 3-4 question:( with confusing answers(i am bad at RC.. guys practice RCs lot)a total of 3 RCs with one 90 lines RC.Would post more questions as soon as i remember them. I know 1250 is not good score but i am not hoping for top universities .. i just want decent univ...Any suggestion would be appreciated. And finally TM rocks.

MWM its not like that... there are 100 observations so you have to replace the one with 50 with 40... so it will be 4000-10=3990.. so mean will be 39.9... and i dont know how you got 11.21... because just look its obvious that by changing just one observation from 50 to 40 wont make SD change radically... it acutally is = underroot[(5.1)^2 +40^2-25+(40^2)/100 - 39.9^2] = 5(new SD) using the formual SD^2=S(x^2)/n - M^2 (M is mean)

A Student obtained the mean and standard deviation of 100 observations as 40 and 5.1 resp. later it was discovered that he had wrongly copied down an observation as 50 instead of 40. calculate true mean and standard deviation.?

hey rahul relax... Even i had similar experience about the PP when i first gave it a try... i scored 450 in verbal that badly affected my confidence. Even i would suggest you start practising RC and SCs and analogies even if you havent completed word list... dont get bogged down by word list .... coz i found out that knowing word list is not the end of journey... you need tricks and intuation to solve those RC and SC ... anyway just chill and all the best for your test

Mine D Day is 28th sept... quite close now.. i prepared the Barron's word list... no matter what you say its the basic requirement of GRE and then practiced from the Big B of GRE Big BOOK.... verbal gives me jitters in stomach.. quite confident with Quant though. Can anybody suggest wht to do in last days before exams????

even i am from pune university and i am too worried about the same thing .... i would like to hear from what others have to say about this... i have got 56% and our class topper has around 68% .... how to convince the universities about our above avg. marks.. how to make them realize that our marks are not bad....

Hi i just started with big book practice.... just solved a verbal sections got 70% answer correct .... screwed up in antonyms ... i just wanted to ask if anybody know wht are all score converstions given at the end of test ... it gives you raw marks and converted actual marks out of 800 for each section.... i failed to understand that.... please if anybody know help me out:(

hi keshav, even i am trying for fall 06 comp sci initially i was also sceptical abt timing GRE... but i got all round suggestion that should give GRE latest by Sept. coz of deadlines and financial aids and all. So even i suggest u give it by Sept... i am giving on 28 sept
