Gifts never fail to put a smile on our faces. It is always nice to give gifts to someone you care about and it is equally touching to receive something from someone who loves you. As much as possible, I would like to receive something in kind; I do not enjoy much receiving cash. But of course, we can always convert this to something memorable or something worth remembering. If I would be given cash, which is enough only for a piece of jewelry or a ticket to a concert, I would rather buy a ticket to a concert. I believe watching a concert will do me a lot of good like being entertained, being able to eliminate stress, and being able to meet other people. Undoubtedly, watching concerts is very entertaining. I will be able to watch my favorite singers and pop stars perform live on stage. I can cheer them, sing with them, and dance with them. I can also ask my friends to come with me so I can enjoy all the more. When I was in highschool, Mariah Carey went to our country for a concert. My friends and I love her so we made sure that we would not miss this once in a lifetime event. WE really had fun and though the ticket was very expensive, we believed it was all worth it. Secondly, watching concerts will eliminate our stress. It will take our mind off from our stressful work. It will help us relax our body, mind, and spirit especially when we watch the concerts of the famous Filipino balladeers like Nyoy Volante, Gary Valenciano, and Martin Nievera. A few years back, when my mother still had her stressful job, she used to watch classical and ballad concerts. She told me that it helped a lot to relieve her tension from a hectic schedule. Lastly, watching concerts can help us meet other people. Of course, there will be many people watching the concert who have the same choice of music like ours. We can talk to them and maybe, can be friends in the long run. Also by mere talking to people, we will gain more knowledge with regards to politics, fashion, jobs, music, art and many others. To sum up, I believe that watching concerts is very beneficial. It is not only entertaining and relaxing, but can help us meet other people as well. So if given a choice between a piece of jewelry and a concert ticket, I would choose the latter. I think that watching concerts offers more advantages than wearing a piece of jewelry.

When my sister suffered from severe depression a few months ago, her psychologists advice her to watch comedy films and avoid watching serious movies. My sister followed the advise of her doctor and amazingly, her condition improved and I noticed that she became more positive towards life and inspired to do valuable things. In sum, I believe that movies, which are primarily designed for amusement and entertainment, are beneficial to people. She never smiled in class and always bowed her head while walking. When I talked to her, I found out that she was just depressed. Later on, we found ourselves to be very good friends. I was happy that I did not judge her based on her outward qualities because if I did, I would probably miss an opportunity to meet my bestfriend. As the twenty-first century begins, I believe we will encounter more revolutionary changes in our society. I think this new century will bring us greater improvements in our transportation, healthcare, and entertainment field. Undoubtedly, our transportation system will improve. I can imagine the new bridges and fly-overs, which will be created in the next coming years. These will be built to minimize the heavy traffic brought about by many cars and buses in the cities. Poverty is increasingly getting worst . In this context, I would discuss the reasons why government should spend more money on basic things. My country is classified as a third world country. I can see children living in the streets with no food to eat. I believe that government should focus more on the basic things because people will not appreciate technology if they are hungry. If people do not eat, they cannot think normally. They will not have enough strength to perform high-tech jobs. If there are no people working, technology will fail. One common example is a large factory with very advanced machines. I cannot imagine how it will work if there are no people to operate it. Secondly, security will be a concern if the government will not address the basic needs of the people. Of course, hungry and homeless individuals will find ways to meet their needs. Most of them will resort to committing crimes such as robberies, hold upping, and kidnapping just to fill in their empty stomachs. When I was in college, I made a study about the possible causes of people committing crimes. I went to police stations to check the records and surprisingly, I found out that 90% of the people who were incarcerated due to robbery and hold-up did such acts because of poor lifestyle. In conclusion, I agree that the government should spend money more on the basic needs of the society. Although computer technology offers great things to the community, I believe the welfare of the people is more important. I also reckon that not only the government should look into computer technology but the private sector as well, because private sectors equally benefit from it, thus, must have an equal contribution to its innovation.

Everybody will look at you and adore you. When you go shopping, it will be so easy to buy clothes because almost everything will fit you. In my country, when you’re fat, it will take you forever to shop for clothes. When I was in college, I was ten pounds overweight. I felt so bad everytime I wanted to buy clothes. It took me hours to find something that looked good on me. Lastly, exercise makes us generally in good spirit. When my friend suffered from depression a few years back, her psychologist advised her to exercise because it could make her more determined and courageous towards life. Fortunately, my friend followed the advise of her doctor. After a month, I observed that my friend improved a lot. She told me that exercise helped her; there is something in it that motivates her to do good things. In conclusion, I believe that exercise is the best tool to reduce the stress of the people. It does not only help us forget our problems, but also improves our well being. I cannot imagine how wonderful our world will be if all people devote even just ten percent of their time to exercise.

Some people like doing work by hand. Others prefer using machines. Which do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. The world is becoming increasingly smaller and smaller. The world’s population is currently at six billion. It is hard to imagine our planet 300 years ago if its population was as big as now. There would surely be a problem with supply and demand. Fortunately, the twenty- first century has brought us technology and modern equipment, which made it possible for the nation to solve these conflicts. Machines are God’s gifts to humankind. Everything is possible because of machines. Products can be easily manufactured to meet the demands of the people. But, there are still some individuals who opt to use their bare hands when working. I think it is great; I admire the patience of these people. I would probably appreciate more a handmade gift than a mass produced gift. I agree that there is more life unto a handmade product. However, I would still prefer to work using machines because it is more practical, efficient, and creative. It cannot be doubted that it is more practical to work using machines. It is very economical especially for a big company to use equipment. There is no need to hire many people to do the work nevertheless, their expenses will be greatly lessened. If a company has many workers, they have to pay not only their workers’ salaries, but also SSS, health insurances, overtime pay, allowances, and other bonuses while with machines, the company will only spend electricity and maintenance fees. Furthermore, a company will have lesser problems because it will be unlikely for them to deal with labor union rallies. Secondly, working with the use of machines is very efficient. It is less time consuming yet the results are still perfect. One common example is sewing clothes. Imagine there are two housewives sewing pajamas for their sons. One housewife is sewing by hands while another one is using a sewing machine. Undoubtedly, the person using the sewing machine will finish earlier. She will have time to do more important things such as cooking, bonding with her child, and helping her other children do their homework. Lastly, machines can be creative. Others may think that it is more creative to do things by hand. However, it takes creativity to set the machine up. Once it is set up, we can program it to print ten perfect circles. We will just program it then with just one click, it can produce ten perfect circles with different designs. It will take me forever to do it by hand and I will probably commit several errors before I finish them. In sum, I believe that it is wiser to do work with machines. Our ancestors exerted a lot of effort to make things easier for us. We should treasure and make use of their inventions.
