  11. One rectangular, with one side 18 feet and other side 12 feet, is to be covered by two types of squares (or rectangle). How many pieces are needed? 1). The area of the first type of square is 36, the area of the other type of square is 72 2). The first type is rectangular with 16 inches and 8 inches, the second type is square with 6 inches side, and same amount of these two types are to be used. My solution below, please comment :p --------------------------------- I think it is E. for 1) 1st square becomes size of 6 and, 2nd square become size of 6 root2. ractangular's length is 18 and width is 12. you can not make either length 18 or width 12 with any combination of 6 and 6 root2 So, discard A 2) for let's count total area for rectangle 's area = 4/3 X 2/3 = 8/9 sq.feet and for square's area= 1/2 X 1/2 = 1/4 sq.feet n is number for each. so n X ( 8/9 + 1/4 ) = 216 so. 41 x n/36 = 216 n = 216 X 36/41 you can't devide 216 X 36 by 41 with remider 0 n is not whole number.. so discard B and discard D you can't combine both 1 and 2 that results into three kind of square or rectange. discard C ANS E
