  1. What kind of salaries can you expect in these positions?
  2. How about Tufts? You can take classes at their renowned Fletcher School as well to further your international aspirations. Since you are interested in the private sector, Europe (unless its LSE or something really famous) might not help you land a job if you intend to come back to the USA. Private sector cares a lot about name so Tufts, Duke, NYU, etc. might be a good choice. You may want to work a bit to figure out exactly what you want. You should have a lot of options having the Chicago name on your resume!
  3. I'm going to Tufts. I think it's a good program, but am not prepping for a PhD. It's probably better than Delaware. Also you get good fin. aid.
  4. Do you guys know if the Tufts program is about the same or easier than PhD programs in the 1st year?
  5. I just found out Tufts sports nickname is the Jumbos. That sounds rather odd to me lol. The logo appears to be an elephant.
  6. I probably won't, but will consider it as the first year progresses. I'm not sure when we have to decide, but I know we have some time. Also, I'm not sure the 2nd year is that useful if you are planning to just get a job like me.
  7. It was by mail??? I have been throwing out all my letters from schools without opening them cause I figure they are all rejections.
  8. How are you guys saying it's not cheap? Assuming you got 65% tuition and the TA position, the first year comes to about $5,000 out of pocket and you can live in Boston for 9 months for like $20,000 or less. So total only $25,000 for the program and you clearly make that back within the next few years if you work. It's not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things.
  9. I am 99% going. I got the 65% offer. I was also admitted to Washington's PhD, but I have decided I will most likely not pursue a PhD and Tufts will be my terminal degree. It's reputation is a major factor as I think the degree will be well respected in private industry.
  10. I would agree with you basically, but the same can be pretty much said for any field where it's hard to show any tangible results.
  11. Tufts says: "Applications for Fall admission are due by February 15. However, please note that international applications for Fall admission are due by December 30. Applications submitted after these dates will be considered on a case by case basis."
  12. Do you know what kind of jobs/companies Master's graduates there end up working in?
  13. I got the same offer from Tufts and will probably attend there. Tufts has a good reputation which makes it an attractive option. I would guess both schools are about equal when it comes to getting into PhD placements, but what if you decide against that? I have never heard of Simon Fraser outside this board so if you decide to get a job in the US afterwards, you'd much rather have Tufts on your resume. I know you said you want a PhD, but you might end up changing your mind and I don't see any real advantage SFU gives you except a little more money.
  14. That's a good question. I'd like to know the same. They do seem to encourage a diverse group of applicants though.
  15. I am not exactly sure. I have too many interests (which is one reason a PhD isn't a good fit for me, I don't like to specialize). Lately I have been thinking of being an economic policy analyst. Somewhere in the intersection of policy and economics.
