  1. Awesome!!! http://arielrubinstein.tau.ac.il/welcome.wmv :D
  2. in case someone is still interested: I mailed the financial officer and he told me that the scholarships are NOT taxable. (but I don't know whether this a general result or applies just for these specific scholarships)
  3. Don't worry... most of the faculty doesn't know or has already forgotten every single application, candidate etc. I dont think that you'll have disadvantages...
  4. Applied Maths with 5* --------------------- Bath Bristol Cambridge Durham Imperial Warwick Pure Maths with 5* ------------------- Cambridge Imperial Oxford Edinburgh Economics and Econometrics with 5* ----------------------------------- Essex LSE UCL Warwick link: http://www.hero.ac.uk/rae/
  5. @Warwick: that is not 100% true. First, you are allowed to combine maths and economics in their interdisc. program, but for business courses (at least in case of finance etc.) you have to enter the financial maths program. Second, Warwick is not in the countryside. It is in Coventry and it is just 20-30 minutes by train to Birmingham.
  6. UPF!! they are on a similar academic level: UPF has some stars like Gali, Canova and Mas-Colell. I haven't been in Stockholm yet but I guess that Barcelona can hardly be beaten as a city... I consider it one of the best places in the world to live: gorgeous city, great nightlife, sport, culture, beach, sun... The Scandinavian life (just know Copenhagen a bit) is really nice as well, but I am more a summer/bars/beach guy... I also know that UPF made some really good placements of their MSc students in American PhD programs.
  7. found this: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/employers/ebik/ebik3/scholarships.htm, but I dont understand it. can anyone clarify? thanks!!! Expenses and benefits in kind: a guide to tax and NICs: Scholarships Income from a scholarship is exempt from a tax charge in the scholar's hands. Scholarships awarded to a student by reason of the employment of one of his or her parents will normally give rise to a tax charge on the parent unless the parent is in an excluded employment. For guidance on excluded employments look at EIM20007.
  8. I found the following: http://www.esrcsocietytoday.ac.uk/ESRCInfoCentre/Images/sect3_tcm6-5495.pdf INCOME TAX 3.30 Payment under an ESRC studentship is not regarded as income for tax purposes. But what about funding from other sources (e.g. department)? I will also check with my home country! thanks a lot for your help. Best Stefan
  9. hi! i just have a quick question regarding funding in england. I am awarded a scholarship and I am wondering whether there are a kind of taxes. how much? thanks a lot, stefan
  10. visited UPF just once... I liked it; and you can always walk (just 5-10 min.) to the Mediterranean sea.
  11. UPF beats all of them... Barcelona is THE city and university is just close to the sea... http://www.econ.upf.es/eng/about/about1.html#gallery http://www.bcn.es/english/laciutat/barcelona/360vr01.htm
  12. Dear Morassa. As you are also admitted at UCLA I don't see your point why not-going to LA as well? Even if Hopkins' program might be better (I don't know), is it really worth doing this??? Best, Stefan
