  1. 1. I am wondering if "as much as" is an appropriate phrase to use here. Should it be "as many as" because of "kilometers" in plural form or "as long as"? 2. "eloquent" is an adjective. Sorry for my stupid mistake. 'eloquent' is an adjective. Then, I don't have any idea for this question.
  2. Hi, Let me try to answer your questions. 1."her" should be "their" due to turtles (plural). 2.A (appositive) HTT.
  3. Hi, Let see the full sentence. While the venom in the tentacles of the Portuguese man-of-war is not usually fatal, it can inflict great pain. When subjects in the first and second clause are the same, we can omit subject and v to be in the first clause (adverb clause --> While ___) Then, reduced adverb clause should be as follow. While the venom in the tentacles of the Portuguese man-of-war is not usually fatal, it can inflict great pain. HTH
  4. Hi, I agree with Tho. "naturally" should be "natural" because it modifies substance. HTH
  5. Hi Erin, Sorry for raising this topic again. Could you please clear my doubt for question 1 to 4? I am still confused in them.
  6. Hi, Here is the answers from my book. 1.d) "so higher" 2.d) "bring it about" 3.d) "them" 4.c) "near" In question 4, there is one typo as Fortune said. "Occuring" should be "occurring".

  8. Thank a million Erin, Hi Fortune, You are correct as Erin's explanation.
  9. Hi Erin, I am very happy to see your post.:D However, the original sentence of this question is. As cities grow larger and distances greater, horses became too slow for the longer streetcar lines. There are no "became" between "distances" and "greater" in the original sentence. Our argument is whether we can omit "became" or not. Please help clarify again.
  10. Hi All, Here is the answer key from my book. 1. b) thus. I still have some doubt. Can we use "moreover" in this sentence? I think that "moreover" should be ok. in this sentence. 2. "famous" It should be like Tho's correction: "fame". 3. "to get" I don't know how to correct it and why it is wrong. 4. "involving in" Renata's explanation is very great. It should be "involved in" PS. Tho, How can you know Thai beer "Singha"? Have you ever tasted it?:D
  11. Hi All, Thank you for your explanation. Here is the answer key from my book. 1. "the economics" I also agree with you all that it should be "the economy". 2. "allowed" I also think that it should be "allow" because tense in the main clause is present simple "are classified". However, I have some doubt in this sentence. Should "variety" be "varieties"? Joints are classified by the varieties of motions they allowed. 3. "comparison" I agree with you all that it should be "comparatively".
  12. Hi Renata, I also agree with your answers. However, I still have something in mind. If we need "healthy" (adj) to modify "muscles" (noun) in the 1st question, why we don't need "healthy" (adj) to modify "needs" (noun) in the 2nd question as well.
  13. Hi, Please help to correct this question. 1. Inflation is the major problem affecting the people, the government, and the economics. 2. Joints are classified by the variety of motions they allowed. 3. Leisure time is a comparison recent development.

  15. Hi, Please correct this question. 1. Health muscles have much to do with good posture. 2. The health needs of human feet are cleanliness and proper fitted shoes.
  16. Hi, Here is the summary of your idea on this post. I would like to conclude the answer. 1. a) use, although (Erin has already explained it) 2. b)' in each but ' --- > 'in all but' (Erin has already explained it) 3. d) 'there' ----> 'here' or omit 'there' (we have two opinions in this question) 4. d) 'the Physics' ----> 'Physics' 5. a) 'grow larger' -----> 'grew larger' or b) 'distances greater' ------> 'distances became greater' (we are still on discussion whether verb can be omitted or not)
  17. Hi Phoungled, Good comment from you . I also agree with you in the point that we should find the clearest answer and explanation in every question. Sometimes, I see we have left the vague answer in our post. Finally we can not conclude our discussion. I recommend that we should have final conclusion of our posts. Maybe the originator would gather idea of all opinion in his post and summarise it. Another point, we should help each other by giving not only the correct answer, but also the explanation. It's very important. We can learn better by helping others. For me, if I am able to explain, I will not hesitate to do. Finally, Erin always tells us to response in the polite way. We should keep his suggestion. That's my opinion.
  18. Hi Erdtek, This pattern is not an absolute phrase, but it's a reduced adverb clause. We can notice from 'Although ........'.
  19. Hi Fortune, I am also not familiar with the pattern in which verb is omitted but conj ("and") is still left. From Erin example, you means that we can rewrite this sentence like this. Chris likes McDonald's, but Gary Burger King. What do other guys think about it? Please post your idea.
  20. Hi Phuong, Thank you for your great explanation.
  21. After revising carefully, i think this one is not a good question. B should be "in all", D should be "animal" --> Erin & we have discussed, do you remember, chayachoti?[b)] Hi Tho, I do remember that we have ever discussed about it. However, I still wonder whether we will face such this problem in real test. Could you explain why B) should be "in all". At least one typo here, if "grow larger" is fine, should be "horses become", not a good one, either:( Just my 0.02$. I don't know what you mean. In the second clause, there is a verb "became" which mentions the event in the past. Then, in the first clause, we should use "grew", shouldn't we? But, I feel there is something wrong on "distances greater".
  22. Hi Bubble, Could you explain why the answer is "so"? Could you explain why the answer is "her subjects"?
  23. Hi Erdtek, How about the 1st question? Which choice is correct? Could anyone explain why you select that choice?
  24. Hi, After my checking again, I would like to confirm that there is not any typo on my post. Here is the answer from my book. It states only which choice is correct. I also agree that a) is the most appropriate choice. However, I think the correct answer should be "uses although" We doesn't require "," before "although" How about your idea? Do you think whether we would see such minor mistakes in the real test? If we strict with the grammar rule, a) can be wrong as well. The answer from my book is "in each but". The answer is "there". The answer is "the Physics". The answer is "grow larger". Hi Bubble, From your explanation, it's very clear that "grow larger" should be "grew larger". How about "distances greater"? I feel there is something wrong.
