The department of economics at University of Wisconsin has two (great) reasearchers in this area: Larry Samuelson and Bill Sandholm. In fact, Sandholm has written a book on evolutionary game theory. Hello freddieee, I have to say that your score will be a disadvantage, but I am sure (my own experience) that you can do it into a top ten. I applied this year with a verbal verbal score of 380 and was admitted to Michigan ($$), UCLA($$), Duke ($$), Chicago (No $$), Columbia ($$ 2d year) and Northwestern ($$). Obviously, you need to be really strong in everything elses, but it is possible. Good luck.

I agree NYU is a great place to sudy a phd in economics. It's amazing how it has improved in the last years. However, I don't agree that NYU is better than NW or UPENN. First, we are taking about which school gives you more tools to become a sucessfull researcher, not about which city is better. And even when 5 years are a lot of time and it's important to be in a nice place, it's a secondary topic (five years of sacrifice in exchange of glory..I think it is worthy). Second, even when NYU has improved a lot, NW and PENN have been in the top ten for a long time. Even now, people argue if NYU is a to ten university or not, and I can assure you this doesn't happen with NW or UPENN. NYU can be better in some fields, but taking the program as a whole, NW and UPEEN are, even at this moment, better.

Northwestern -- Micro Theory

Just relax Skipper. As other persons have pointed out, the admission process is not perfect and your situation doesn't imply that you are one ot the worse prepared student. My advise is to start studying math; but just a little, you don't want to be tired before starting the program. Anyway, see you at Northwestern. After a long internal discussion, I decided to accept NW offer and decline Chicago (God bye Nobel prize winners...!!!)

What will happen to Chicago in the future (and not really far future, L guess less that 10 years) when Lucas, Becker, Heckman and Fogel pass away. Will they still be a top 5 program? I think that they are not really making great effort to hire good professors. Bye

Hello guys, I would like to know what do you know about Chicago and Micro Theory. I know thay have reny and myerson and a couple of juniors. SO it doesn't seem very strong. At leats not if we compare it with Northwestern, Harvard or MIT. see you.

How do you compare Northwestern University and Chicago? I got accepted at both (NU with funding and Chicago without funding) and I can not decide. I know Chicago is better overall, but the decision is harder given that my interest are in microeconomic theory where NW is probably better. What do you think? How is Chicago in micro theory? Everybody seems to think that you should go to the best place yo get into. But , is the difference between Chicago and Northwestern that big? Specially in micro theory? I think that NW is better.
