Hi, I'm an Econ/Math major at a Public University in U.S(Top 15 in
econ and math) and will be graduating next fall. Before I graduate, I
have an option to take two the following four math courses: math
stats, stochastic process, modern algebra, and topology.
Which ones should I take?
Here is my profile:
math courses that I have taken and will be taken before graduation :
Cal1-3, Linear Algebra, ODE, Stat(not math stat), Probability Theory,
Real Analysis, Measure Theory, and two of the courses above
My overall GPA will be quite low due to poor grades in fresh/soph year
first 40 credits at a Public University (Top 25 Econ and top 15 math I
think)- 2.1
64 credits at a community college-4.0
final 60 credits at the University that I'm attending now will be at
least~3.9
Overall Math GPA~3.9, and Overall Econ GPA~3.8
I will be applying mostly MA in Econ (UPF, UBC, Toronto, Queen's, and
some safety schools) and two or three low ranked Ph.D in econ
Do you guys think that my chances for top 20 or 30 Ph.D in econ
programs will increase if I finish my MA in Econ first given that I do
well? And do I have a shot at well known Canadian or European
Master's programs? I'm really worried about my fresh/soph year GPA.
Thanks~ :D
