  1. If you feel that you will do well in the MSc @ LSE and can proceed to the PhD programme afterwards, it might be a good investment to take a student loan and do the MSc this year. LSE is no.1 outside US, and certainly top 20 worldwide. Good luck.
  2. You're accepted to top schools in UK but rejected by HKUST. That's pretty interesting. :hmm:
  3. Well there are no grants to apply in my country. I can easily get a full government scholarship but they come with a 5-year bond. I'm not willing to commit. Looks like many of us will end up with huge debt.
  4. Yeah I know. I wasn't offered a Graduate Merit Scholarship (didn't expect to anyway). So the costs are going to be a killer. Might have to take a loan...unless of course I strike the lottery soon.
  5. Thanks guys :) @ senmaster: Where you heading to?
  6. OK I'm done with this long, tiring process. I got into LSE! Those who are going to LSE this Fall, let's keep in touch. Cheers.
  7. Really? Is 25-26 too old? I'm 26 and finished my undergrad 2 yrs back. Have 2 yrs working experience and planning to do Masters this year, and possibly PhD after that...will be 27 then. Hmm if I really do a PhD and complete it, will be around 32? With no family and likely to be in huge debt. Is it really worth it? :hmm:
  8. Yeah I remembered you saying in another thread that UCL is as good as Oxford. However, my interests are in Financial Econ, and UCL isn't good at that...don't think there is active research in this area in UCL... I don't think I can significantly improve my profile if I wait another year (can perhaps improve GRE only), and I'm not prepared to wait. I suppose I'll just have to go to UCL and do well there. Good luck to you guys, and congrats on your awesome admits!
  9. You can find my profile under my signature... Painful rejections, but still waiting for LSE. Not sure if I'd go to UCL if I don't get into LSE. Any advice guys? Seems that my profile is not good enough even for a good Econs Masters...:(
  10. Berkeley. No need for further consideration. Difference of 6k is peanuts.
  11. You really love reputation points don't you?
  12. Yeah I certainly agree with Derrex. GRE does not make up for GPA. It's just one standardized test, whereas your GPA shows your average grades for the whole duration of your course. There is no strict cut-off for GRE I believe, it depends on how competitive the applicant pool is. But with a 2.5 AWA, I don't think even a low tier school will take you seriosuly. Sorry to say, but it's unacceptable IMO. Seriously you should spend some effort and retake. I'm sure your scores will improve significantly.
  13. I posted my profile in the Econ applicants thread and just included a link in my signature. senmaster, impressive profile! I've got a 2:1 for my undergrad and a 1st class equivalent for my grad, but no thesis at Masters level. Also won a few academic awards and full scholarship with stipend for my undergrad. But still seems like I'm not good enough for Oxford - could be my SOP, or my GRE, or lack of research experience. Hope I get into LSE...I want to do Financial Econ... Got into UCL, but they are not strong in that. Good luck guys!
  14. Yes I'm intending to use it as a stepping stone. I did Stats for my undergrad and then did Applied Econ for grad, but it was a coursework programme (no thesis). I figured out I won't be able to get into a PhD programme without having done substantial research, or at least a good thesis at Masters level. Was hoping to get into a good Masters programme first, but apparently my profile isn't good enough. MWG, what other programmes did you apply to? Any admits so far?
