    the max value that x can take is 7 and leasst value that y can take is -5 largest value is 17+5 = 22 least value is 3*2 +1 = 7 for XY 3*-1 = -3 is tha largest and smallest is 7*-5 = -35 largest of x^2 + y^2 is 7^2+(-5)^2 = 49+25 = 74 smallest is 9+1 = 10 2) 3*C -1*W >32 C+W=19 or 4C > 51 C >=13 so min value is 13 3) 2*pi*r r so the ans is 20*pi
  4. it is not that all the fractions which are mulitiples of 3 or 7 as denominator will have non terminating decimals . for ex 9/225 = 1/25 = 0.04 what i actually mean is that numbers which will have 3 in the denominator even after simplification will have non terminatiing decimal like 3/225 = 0.013333333333333333333333333333333.....because it will be 1/75 and 75 contains a 3 in it hope u got my point
  5. i think shuld change my reasoning the diameter of the circle is given to be 10 so the area of the circle will be 78.5 now the area of the quadrialteral can be less than 40 or greater than 40 hence D thanks for correcting me :)
  6. it is easy the first four numbers have either a 3 or a 7 in the denominator the last one has a 2 in the denominator . 1/3 and 1/7 do not have a terminating decimals .
  7. for the first one go thru this post http://www.www.urch.com/forums/gre-math/52859-about-percentile.html 2) T/1.2 3)d^2 +(e-a)^2 = r^2 b^2 +(c-a)^2 = r^2 (ie)d^2 + e^2 = 2a(e-c) + b^2 +c^2 hence B 4) join AC then angles ABC and ADC will be right angles area of quad = 1/2 *BC*AB + 1/2 * CD*AD we know only AC so BC and AB can be 6 and 8 or one side could be 4 and other will be 9.16 then the area of quad will be 36.66 hence D 5) area of parallelogram will be base * height base = 4 and height will be less than 6 because height will be subtending only 55 degrees at D but 6 is subtending 90 degrees and both are in the same triangle . so area will be less than 24 (B) 6) m = 1 so y = x + b x intercept is negative as it cuts the negative X asis and value of y intercept is positive as it cuts the positive Y asis hence B 7) refer to first question 8) u have to compare 1/2 b1 and 1/2 b2 6*4 = 24 also 8*3 also 12*2 so b1 and b2 can take any of these values hence D 9) R=pi*r^2 S = pi*s^2 T=pi*t^2 pi*r^2 = 2*pi*s^2 or r =sqrt(2)*s pi*s^2 = 2*pi*t^2 or t = s/sqrt(2) or 2t = sqrt(2)*s hence C 10) 2 sd above mean is 2*SD +M = X = 5+7 = 12 11) the second equation is parabola and starts just out side the circle at y = -3 and circle has a point at y = -2 so the parabola cuts the circle at four points 12)a1 = 5 , a2 = 10 , a3 = 10^5 a4 = (10^5)^10 = 10^50 a5 = (10^50)^10^5 = 10^(5*10^6) which is 5 lakh digits in the number 13) a) compare coordinates of p and m for y = 1/2 X or 2y = X but the y coordianate of P is greater than the values of m (ie) t > 1/2 r or 2t > r b) from eq of L we can see that y = 3X-3 ie 3 less than 3times X and p lies below this line so t will be less than 4 times r ie t c) from eq of n y+x = 1 and p lies above this line hence t+r > 1 d)from eq of L y = 3X-3 and point p lies below this line and t 3r-3 this is false e)the x and y coordinates of p are both positive hence rt>0
  8. division can written as Dividend = (quotient x Divisor) + remainder in the given question dividend = n divisor = 11 or 5 remainder = 7 or 1 so n = Q x 11 + 7 i shuld find Q to get n. since it is given that when n is divided by 5 remainder is 1. ie n = Q x (10+1) + (5+2) = Q x 10 + Q + 5 + 2 = (2Q + 2) X 5 + (Q+2) so when n is divided by 5 quotient is (2Q+2) and remainder is Q+2 which is given to be 1 in the question Q+2 = 1 or Q = -1 also n = Q x 11 + 7 can be written as Q x (10+1) + (10-3) = (2Q+2)x5 + (Q-3) now Q-3 = 1 or Q = 4 so from this we get two values of n (ie) n = 51 when Q = 4 and n = -4 when Q = -1 hence D is the answer
  9. total Production x selling price = revenue 1.25*production x 0.75*selling price = 0.9375*revenue = approx. 6% decrease
  10. for fractions if a/b a/b so m+3/n+3 > 2/3 thats the only thing we can find from this m+3/n+3 can be lesser than 5/6 or even greater than 5/6 hence the ans will be D
  11. http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m156/naeemfirdous/untitled-4.jpg look at this image it might help i magine this what they are talking about. O is the center of square ABCD and O' is the center of AB'C'D'. u have to find OO' AC' = 5*sqrt(2) as it the diagonal of the square the rotated square O' is the mind point so AO' = 5*sqrt(2)/2 = AO so angles AOO' and AO'O are equal and O'AO = 45 ( since the square is rotated 45 degrees about the vertices A) so AOO'=AO'O = 67.5 hence AO' > OO' 5*sqrt(2)/2 > OO' (hypotenuse)/2 > OO' in a triangle side opposite to greater angle is greater hope it is clear

first distribute 3 one dollar bills to three of them distribute the remaining bills in 4C3 ways there will always be one person who will get atleast 3 dolllars so no of ways to distribute so that at least one person receives 3 dollars will be same as total no of ways to distribute the bills ans is C
  13. this question is a quant comp question from power prep that the reason i replied with the way to find which column is greater if the exact value of this exp is needed i would suggest to remeber the values of these fractions these are frequently used fractions so remebering the values of thsese fractions will be helpful in finding the percentages 1 - 0.5 + 0.667 - 0.25 + 0.2 - 0.167 + 0.14 - 0.125 + 0.11 - 0.1 = 0.975
  14. n^2 > 99 consider +ive values first n >=10 and n the same is applicable to -ive values so totally u have 10 integers that can fit in this 10,-10,11,-11,12,-12,13,-13,14,-14
  15. just look at the numbers carefully seperate 1-1/2 this will give 1/2 u have to check whether the remaining terms will result in +ive or -ive result. starting from 1/3 all the positive terms are greater than the following term 1/3 > 1/4 and thier diff will be +ive similarly 1/5 > 1/6 , 1/7 > 1/8 , 1/9 > 1/10 hence all these diff will be positive and will add to the 1/2 which we get from the first two terms. so sum will be greater than 1/2

    Try this one

Annie9 yes that is the formula to calculate the area of a regular hexagon else u have to find out the area as explained by others

olive not yet, i am not in a hurry as of now. btw when are u planing to take it
  18. coolgeek

    Try this one

    area of a regular hexagon is = (3/2)*sqrt(3) * (side)^2 (3/2)*sqrt(3) * 6^2 = 54sqtr(3)

    split the number as 72+0.42 = k*24 + k*n /100 here k = 3 for k*24 to be 72 and n = 14 from 42/3 k+n = 14 + 3 = 17
  20. sorry bscout .... well the question is about the final ratio of milk to water in the vessel since three bottles have diff ratio of milk to water u have to find the resultant ratio when we mix all the three liquids in one vessel for this find the quantity of milk in the vessel = 4/7 +5/9+7/13 = 1364/819 then quantity of water in the vessel = 3/7 + 4/9 + 6/13 = 1093/819 hence the ratio of milk to water in the vessel is (1364/819) / (1093/819) = 1364/1093 so the dr is just the total quantity in each bottle hope it is clear now
  21. [3] it is just asking how many cuts u shuld make on a 3 inch wide end with each cut of length 1/16 inch so u will have 48 pieces each of lenght 1/16 for getting 48 pieces u need to make 47 cuts smart solution ahmed4 :)
  22. i think it shuld be like this first quarter A1 = 4000*(1.03)^0.25 second quarter A2 = A1*(1.03)^0.25 third quarter A3 = A2*(1.03)^0.25 fourth quarter A4 = A3*(1.03)^0.25 at the end of a year he will get A4 = 4000*(1.03)^(0.25+0.25+0.25+0.25) which is 4000*1.03 = 4120
  23. for the first one remember the pattern of units digits for some of the numbers like 2^1 = 2 2^2 = 4 2^3 = 8 2^4 = 6 2^5 = 2 and find this pattern for other numbers 2nd one it just to find the ratio D:R = 5:6 R:E = 8:3 now u have to combine the ratio for that make the denominator of 1st one equal to Nr of second one 5/6 and 8/3 or 20/24 or 24/9 so combined ratio is 20:24:9 then the min no. of jewels are 20+24+9 = 53
  24. Q5. X IS ANY NO. B/W 1 TO100 THEN FOR WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING WILL THE S.D FOR Y BE GREATEST? A. X=Y B. Y=X/2 + 20 C. Y= X/3 + 30 D. Y= 2X- 30 E. Y = 3X + 50 when u add a const to all the numbers in the set the SD of that set does not change. but when you multiply all the numbers of the set by a const then SD also increases by the same ammount. in the options 3x +50 has the biggest factor multipled to X hence it has the greatest SD.
