  2. What did those people who went to the recruitment day think of the place?
  3. Just got an email, thought others might be interested: Dear Accepted Students, I am delighted to report to you two new additions to the Michigan State University Economics Department, Chris Ahlin and Gary Solon. Chris Ahlin, formerly at Vanderbilt University is a specialist in Development Economics. Starting next fall, he will significantly add to our strength in Development. Gary Solon, formerly Professor and Chair at the University of Michigan, is one of the foremost experts in Econometrics and Quantitative Labor Economics. He is very highly cited and one of the world’s experts in the intergenerational transmission of earnings. His coming next semester will make our superb group in Econometrics even better!
  4. Here's a question for you - Consider this situation, I have been accepted a few good places with some very nice funding offers. My long term goals are to work in academia at either a top liberal arts school or research uni. So I am now picking between MSU, UNC, BC and Duke.... However, my girlfriend who wants to go to Med School, decided at the last minute that she wanted to take a year off from school and apply then, rather than do what we had planned and apply to both start in fall 07 and go to the area we both got in. Her grades and MCAT are okay, but nothing to write home about (3.2 gpa and around average scores). She thinks the only Med School she has a chance of getting into is located in Massachusetts, but doesn't know 'cause didnt apply.... Do I.... 1. Postpone grad school, try and find an interesting job and maybe take some more classes to help my chances somewhere? 2. Pick one of those schools, where she then moves with me and ends up not getting into the med schools in that area (ie. I decide to go to Duke, she doesnt get into UNC, Duke or Wake Forest), and then we're forced to deal with that situation I can't go anywhere w/o aid, and I doubt that these schools would let me deffer their offers. Sorry for long post, but I gotta figure this out soon and the stress is killing me.
  5. I've heard different things about whether or not it is a good thing to get your PhD from the same school you got your ugrad degree and was wondering what people here thought. Any comments?
  6. Congrats Gogol! I thought Brown garunteed funding though, on their website it says "As of 2006-07 all incoming doctoral students are garunteed five years of support..." Anyone know about this?
  7. Same here - after getting booted from columbia today i'm hoping brown will be more positive!
  8. Add me to the list of rejects - bummer, thought I might have had a chance to work with Sachs some day.
  9. Just got the same email - 2 for 2! congrats everyone!
  10. Congrats! I remember getting a letter from them about how they were restructuring their program, I'm sure it'll only get better in the coming years. great admit!
