  2. Crazy I would suggest getting a good grammar reference from somehwere. The spidey/sahil notes are good but they don't perpare you for surprises. I got some of the idioms that are not listed in many of these notes. eg. statistics of vs statistics about . I got one question on punctuation. But it all depends on your frame of mind during the exam. I was bit nervous and that's why I felt the SC was tougher than OG. I would recommend giving Manhattan's GMAT 1 & 2 at the end. They have some real good SC's . Thanks Rits I will join this group. I am keen on one year to avoid the opportunity cost. The other reason is that I will have to stay in US longer than I want to. Then there are visa issues. My H1 will complete 6 years by the time I graduate and this will also create issues for my post MBA job. No galaxy topic was comprehensible. Not tough I would say. Wasn't that tough. Got a repeating sequence which cancelled out at every 6 elements. Asked for sum of elements but I wouldn't tell you for how many elements. Just want to make sure I abide by non discloure policy:)
  3. There was one on permutation and combination, One on set theory ,one on work rate, couple of sequence problems and gmat's favorite number theory was dispersed generously through out the test. I am planning to apply for one year MBA program at IIM A.
  4. BigGames James, when I say I got too used to OG I mean, I feel that I was able to find the problem in SC as I read the questions of OG whereas I was not able to do the same during the exam. I had to really read it couple of times and by POE I found my answers.
  5. Here is my debrief. I thought of giving the GMAT again in the last week of June 06 and started with usual preparation material OG 11 and official guide of verbal. One of my friend told me about TestMagic and I got hooked to it. Before I started I knew that SC was my weak area and I fell there is still scope of improvement after a month of preparation( I felt this during exam:)). So I initially completed the official verbal guide and then started the OG11. I made sure that even though I answer the question correctly I looked at the official explanation. The other technique that I employed was to make sure that I have clear answers why the other choices are wrong. This helped me to improve my hit rate in SC. After finishing 50% verbal part of OG 11 , I started doing 1000SC. I probably did 1/3rd of these questions and started doing regularly GMAT sets verbal part to see how I was faring. On an average I was getting around 8-10 questions wrong out of 41. I also revised Spidey's notes and couple of other SC notes to get the basics right. As far as CR and RC are concerned,I did not practice much. I completed all the RC passages from OG 11 in 2 sittings. I did not complete the CR section from OG 11. This was because I felt comfortable in these 2 sections. One more thing that I would like to say is one should read RC with interest. I usually like reading these passages because it increases my knowledge base in general and this attitude really helped me. In the final week I practiced couple of RC's from 1000 RC and that was it. Most of the time I practiced using GMAT sets . After about 2.5 weeks of preparation I gave my first full length test from GMAT prep and scored 730. Vow! I was happy but realized I was struggling in maths. Time to look at other areas. I started going through the old maths threads in this forum and started solving the problems. I also searched for threads where manish8109,gmat help and schmilinsky posted their solutions or questions. Looking at there approach gives you a kick. These guys are simply amazing. I also practiced in last week the Manhattan GMAT archive and I feel it is pretty useful. One can feel confident after solving those problems on his own. Though I would say the actual gmat problems are not of that level but solving these problems can help you apply the concepts in a better way. I would also suggest that OG quant is not worth spending time. I think best way is to go through atleast 100 pages(not threads) on each of the forums ie PS and DS. You will get all flavor here. Here are my practice test scores GMAT prep 1 730 GMAT prep 2 710 Downloaded again and gave couple of more times. I always scored 750. Manhattan Test 1 690 Manhattan GMAT test 2 680 Manhattan GMAT Test 3 730. The last one is easy. The SC's are pretty good in Manahttan's test. If you can crack them without issues you are all set. Finally I must say Testmagic was the difference in my preparation this time.I spent atleast an hour daily going through various threads of the forum and this really helped me to cover all the topics and get me going. On the d day I was a nervous wreck. I started early and reached center about half an hour before the scheduled time. The center was a small one and few people were already in. As usual the exam started with AWA and I screwed it. In the argument essay my time was over before I clicked next. Not sure whether my response was saved. Issue essay was a bit abstract. People are driven only by self interest or fear. I came up with some examples and some how completed it in time. I realized I was short on practice. Maths was tougher than the one that I gave last time.Started with a simple inequality and the later on got some really weird questions. Felt like I had to use my knowledge of physics in one question. But overall it was a good mix of tough and medium difficulty level questions. I finished the section 3 minutes before the time. In verbal section the RC's were easy. I got 4. One on Galaxy and couple of others on economy and social issues. CR's were OK I did not feel that they were as tough as others keep on saying. I was really struggling to get my SC's correct. I think I screwed in SC's else I should have got atleast 41 in verbal. I paid the price of getting too used to the OG. Let me know if you guys have any questions.
  6. Guys, Just came back from the test center. Finally redeemed myself after getting average 690 last year. When I say below average , I mean the Indian IT male applicant pool is just too competitive and 690 is just an average score in this bucket. I have a deadline to meet for IIM Ahemdabad. I will write my debrief once I submit my app.I have total of 6 years experience in Indian IT companies. 2.5 years of international experience. I was waitlisted by LBS and Duke last year and dinged by Columbia. Here is my debrief. 9. E let's say machine X takes X days to produce w widgets => In 3 days 3w/X . Similarly for Y it will be 3W/x-2 3w/x +3w/x-2 = 5w/4 Solve this quadaratic to get x=6 and 4/5. Only 6 is possible as 4/5-2 will give -ve value. So to produce 2w widgets it will take 12 days. Can anyone share a quicker way of doing this?
  10. Roland: The alarming fact is that 90 percent of the people in this country now report that they know someone who is unemployed. Sharon: But a normal, moderate level of unemployment is 5 percent, with 1 out of 20 workers unem- ployed. So at any given time if a person knows approximately 50 workers, 1 or more will very likely be unemployed. Sharon's argument relies on the assumption that (A) normal levels of unemployment are rarely exceeded (B) unemployment is not normally concentrated in geographically isolated segments of the population © the number of people who each know someone who is unemployed is always higher than 90% of the population (D) Roland is not consciously distorting the statistics he presents (E) knowledge that a personal acquaintance is unem- ployed generates more fear of losing one's job than does knowledge of unemployment statistics OA is
