  1. My 2 cents: Depression or what can be classified as depression is recent. It is very much possible that our ancestors also suffered from it, but such a problem was not named "depression".
  2. I feel the essay is pretty good. The examples are apt. The language cd have been tweaked a bit to introduce a bit of drama etc. Rest i feel its good. The essay doesnt seem like a first essay at all .. so kudos. But next time onwards take time into consideration. And to on the safer side try to finish off ur essay in 40 mins. On the D-day ur speed will be affected. Good work
  3. hi ... Your essay is good. I liked the way that u included profit as the underlying theme. There are a few suggestion s that i have though. 1. You have not taken into account the fact that president wants to hire additional workers. Additional workes might not be directly proportional to increase in output. You could have wrote a bit more on these lines [ I would cosider it very imp. that u dont miss it coz this is one of things given in the argument ] 2. Secondly the author might have meant that the 20% population increase is due to increase in the size of family which might want ppl to buy new houses ( This is how i interpretated it, although i fully agree with ur deductions too) 3. The cost of living in Steel City might also have had increased, may be more than the national average, in which case the effect of increased income (in Steel City) is negated. I know time is major constraint in AWA so i am not sure how much one can write. Finally I loved ur conclusion .. :-) Take care
  4. To add to what Mits told, Lord Jagannath is indeed powerful. However during festive days the idol is placed on a chariot. The chariot is very difficult to move and thus equally difficult to stop once it starts moving. Thus any obstacle is crushed under its irrestible force. And thus the meaning of Juggernaut !
  5. I have found varied answers for this analogy, i wd request someone to clarify it once and for all. LAW:J UDGMENT news:message sample: population jury:verdict data:collection information:decision
  6. hey i disagree on the first analogy, i feel that the verdict is based on jury's decision (which might take the evidence into account). But its the jury's prerogative to give the verdict. On the other hand there is no guarantee that decision is always taken based on information. It can take place based on whims or intuition ..
  7. I wd request aveno to plz post the OA's. There is no consensus for some analogies.
  8. hey as far as i can see .. rotund is round .. and not angular .. however overwrought is similar to frantic .. So the ans shd be 2. Wot say Magicians ?
  9. Why not ? 2. DETECTIVE: INFORMER:: a. spy : counterspy b. reporter :source c. author : editor d. architect : draftsman e. sailor :mutineer Pedant please post the OA
  10. I had to work backwards since i cd not form a bridge. e) forcefulness : coercion Both are same. d) gaffe : judgement Not related (or so i thought) b) justice : impartiality Similar a) lapse : miscalculation Similar So finally we are left with c) cunning : truth Since we know for sure that illusion and perception are not same or even similar, rest all can be eliminated. On deeper thought, cunningness lacks truth or atleast manipulates it. Similarly illusion lacks perception (or tries to manipulate it :D)
  11. Hi TMians, We are all aware of how CAT scoring takes place. But does anyone know the specifics? For example,I would like to know how badly my score wd be affected if i got the first answer wrong ? I know that all of us go to an exam thinking positively and that no one in his senses would like to do the first question wrong (esp in CAT :p ) But mistakes do happen so i wanted to know how badly are the scores affected. I know that i am asking a pretty wierd doubt, but if anyone cd give his/her cents on it .. i would be delighted. Thanks ps: My GRE is fast approaching less than two weeks so i am getting a bit paranoid :(
  12. Hey cd u tell how many words each line contains in GRE CBT so that I can idea how many words 70 line or 120 line passage contains ..
  13. hey thanks .. but if u remember .. can u pls indicate which questions are for RC or all 30 question were for RC ???
  14. Well i guess it was an OK sort of passage .. not all that difficult and the answers were also pretty straight forward. It had 8 questions. I took abt 10.33 mins. I got only one ans. wrong (and that was a silly mistake ) Anyways as for suggestions i feel that u (hunnybee) shd try to form some kind of pattern. Dont just jump onto the passage. Understand the first sentence thoroughly and then only proceed further. The first sentence holds the key as has been repeatedly told in many books (Princeton etc etc). Basically u ll need a lot of practice .. read everything that comes ur way but with the objective that u have to comprehend it. Dont try methods which dont involve comprehension like skimming etc. In my experience they never work .. If u dont understand what the passage is about you surely cant ans. the question. GRE will not have many descriptive questions so try to understand what u read .. One more thing, even i have the tendency to get nervous when doing RC esp when i know that i have to do it within a time limit. Its natural. The only way to get across it is to do practice and practice .. Dont get nervous. Try to read at ur normal pace initially. First concentrate on accuracy. Once u know that u can comfortable do the above kind of passage with abt 6-7 correct out of 8 in abt 12-13 mins u are on the right track. Then go for speed .. and try to employ the techniques tht u come across. This is my advice .. hope it helps .. And as i said earlier in the forum, keep on putting difficult passages on the forum :-) Take care Bye
  15. hey .. its not enough to say thanks .... keep on posting difficult RC's ... :-) Cheers
