  1. Thanks for the encouragement guys. This is my advice. I think that Kaplan is decent in that it prepares you for general material that will be tested on the GMAT. I find that Kaplan math questions are pretty formulaic, in that if you pratice a lot, you will do well (I'm not saying I did well on Kaplan). Some are hard and time consuming. Doing these questions will help, but I think the GMAT quant takes it to a higher level. You can't just plug in a formula or translate variables. The best practice you can get is from the GMATPrep CDs. Of course, people who are strong in math may find this different. Also, I find that GMATPrep is very indicative of the score you might potentially get on the real exam. I wish I had more time to study, but I basically studied for 1.5 months and used the material below. I did as many problems as I could in one day...I think I averaged maybe 70 problems a day (usually 10 questions for each type of problem) to get myself into a rhythm. Study Material OG 11 Kaplan 2006 800score (partially) Practice Tests PowerPrep 1: 690 PowerPrep 2: 670 GMATPrep Practice 1: 690 GMATPrep Pracice 2: 690 GMATPrep Practice 1 (reinstall): 700 I thought the quant section on the test was slightly harder than GMATPrep. Like many people, I kind of freaked out in the beginning. I thought the first question is suppose to be of medium difficulty, but I got some ridiculous question that I spent 7 min on. I also spent over 5 min on the 2nd question. After that, I had to guess a lot to make up for lost time. I usually do better in verbal, so I approached this kind of slow. My mentality was that I wanted to get everything right to make up for quant. Don't do this!!! I ran out of time at the end and just had to guess the last 3 questions. I'm sure that didn't help my score too much. Anyway, I'm thinking of retaking it again. What additional material do you guys suggest besides the Manhattan SC (i've heard a lot of positives)? How is the OG Quant and Verbal?
  2. Hey everyone. Just got back from my test. I'm pretty happy. Even though it's not a 700+, it's the score I was expecting, as most of the practice tests I've taken were around this score. Do you guys think the GMAT is harder now that ACT develops it? I've never taken it twice, but it seems like the quant problems are really hard compared to anything that Kaplan or Powerprep (by ETS) has. The problems in GMATPrep are good for practice, but all of them are really hard, and the real GMAT seems to reflect this. I feel like the problems are no longer mechanical, but actually require you to somehow think or look at the relationship between the numbers or geometric figures. The ones from my old Kaplan book seem to be mechanical - they are based on some formula and just take a lot of time to answer. Let me know what you guys think.
  3. Thanks so much! Taking my test tomorrow...hopefully won't bomb.
  4. Hi Guys, I'd really appreciate it if you guys could show me how to approach this DS problem. I thought it was E but it's wrong. Each employee on a certain task force is either a manager or a director. What percent of the employees on the task force are directors? 1) The average (arithmetic mean) salary of the managers on the task force is $5,000 less than the average salary of all employees on the task force. 2) The average (arithmetic mean) salary of the directors on the task force is $15,000 greater than the average salary of all employees on the task force. Thanks!
  5. Hello. How does the GMATPrep scoring work? I just took it recently and got 17 out of the 37 math questions wrong, yet I still got 690 on the test. The score was 41 verbal/44 quantitative. How is it possible to get so many questions wrong and still get 690? Is it because of the weighting? Thanks!
