  1. B seems to be the ans. Look at it this way- Federal incentives now encourage capital investment in commercial office buildings, even though vacancy rates in existing structures are exceptionally high. Federal incentives now encourage capital investment in commercial office buildings, even though there is no demand for new construction. so when u combine both the statements, "there is" does not become redundant. :grad:
  2. B seems to be correct because "leutrozole is contained in abundance in the fat of blue dolphins" is a fact. It is also true that this fact casts doubt on the authors conclusion (which is that the existence of the whales will not be endangered due to this finding) because it is present in abundance in the whales and it is highly likey that they will be killed for it. The 2BF says, "Yet, the head of the Cancer Research Foundation claims that special equipment will allow scientists to extract dolphin’s fat without killing the animal". This is the main evidence based on which the author concludes that it is therefore unlikely that the existence of blue dolphins will be endangered. IT WAS REALLY TOUGH. :grad:

Since it is a equilateral triangle, all the arcs outside the triangle will be equal lenght. if ABC is 24 then it means the circumference of the triangle is 36. put that in the formula and diameter will come to 11. Tell me the OA of the population question, is it 11000. :grad:
  4. For the 1st question the ans should be 11000. From the question u can make out that there are only two kinds of dist., those having 'X' population and those having 110*X/100 population. Start from E, If the popul. of the least populated dist. is 11100 then the max. population of other dist. can be (11100*110)/100 = 12210. Do a rough calculation and u will see that if u multiply 12210 with any no. from 1 to 10, the balance, after subtracting from the total (132000) will never equal to 11100. Take 11000 now. 110 % of 11000 is 12100. Multiply it by 10 and u will get 121000. Subtract it from 132000 and u will get 11000, which is the ans. Sorry if i could not make it clear. I know it is not a simple method but i did it more with intuition. :grad: For the 2nd question, C seems to be the ans. as there are even no. of terms, u can discard (-1)^k+1 as it will be only 1. so we are left with 1/(2)^k. Put nos. from 1 to 10 and the sum will be 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 +...1/2^10 and it should total between 1/2 and 1. I dont see how it can be between 1/4 and 1/2.
  5. Theory of similar triangles:- The ratio of the areas of two similar triangles is equal to the ratio of the squares of their corresponding sides. So, 2/1 = (S^2)/(s^2), so the ans will be 'C' :grad:
  6. looks like E to me too. Unless we have the total no. of apartments it cant be solved. :grad:
  7. Dear friends, i am posting some interesting questions which flummoxed me. I will be glad if u could help me solve them. 1) If ab is not equal to 0 and points (-a,b) & (-b,a) are in the same quadrant of the xy plane, is point (-x,y) in this same quadrant? a) xy>0 b) ax>0 2) At a certain theater, the cost of each adults ticket is $5 and the cost of each childs ticket is $2. what was the average (A.M.) cost of all the adults and childrens tickets sold at the theater yesterday? a) yesterday the ratio of the no. of childrens tickets sold at the theater to the no. of adults tickets sold at the theater was 3 to 2. b) yesterday 80 adult tickets were sold. 3) if 500 is the multiple of 100 that is closest to x and 400 is the multiple of 100 that is closest to y, which multiple of 100 is closest to x+y? a) x b) y 4) a manufacturer produced x percent more cameras in 1994 than in 1993 and y percent more cameras in 1995 than in 1994. if the manufaturer produced 1000 cameras in 1993, how many cameras did the manufacturer produce in 1995? a) x*y=20 b) x+y+xy/100 = 9.2 5) a certain basket contains 10 apples, 7 of which are red and 3 of which are green. if 3 different apples are to be selected at random, what is the probability that 2 of the apples selected will be red and 1 will be green? :grad:
  8. The rounding-off rule is following- Add 1 to the last digit retained if the first digit dropped is greater than or equal to 5. No change to the last digit retained if the first digit dropped is less than 5. Now coming to the question, from B u know that 10-8.564=1.436 and x is given as 1.4ab5. this means that if u want to drop-off 5 then u have to increase B by 1. when B is 6 after rounding off then it must have been 5 before rounding-off. i hope it is clear now. :grad:
  9. yes i also think it should be E for both the ans. :grad:
  10. Ans is D. lets take 1) -x lxl>0. this means x is negative. if x is positive this will not hold true. try putting a negative value for x and u will see that it will be greater then 0 always. put any -ve value for x and it always prove the given equation( of the question) true. Sufficient. 2) 5-x>0 this means that x so, both are sufficient. :grad:
  11. the ans looks like B to me. lets take 1) first, it shows that the K can be a product of 3*3*7*7 (including 1 & K) and also 3*3*3*7. (in both of these conditions 3^2 will be the factor of K). so, this will give two solutions for K. 2) this will give only one solution of K. if 7^2 is not factor then K can only be the product of 3*3*3*7. So, the ans should be B. whats the OA please? [:grad:
  12. i think the ans should be 20 as we are talking about cans and not liquid. u can put the formulae pi r^2 only we consider a liquid. how can u put a can in the empty space in a stack of 4 cans? does anyone agree with me? :grad:
