  1. Hey guys, does anybody have the solutions of Rudin's textbook "Principles of Mathematical Analysis"? Thx ELM
  2. Hi guys, Time is running out and I have to make a decision between Berkeley and Princeton. I am fully funded in both programs. Could you please give me some advice? My main field of interest is applied theory. Many thanks! ELM
  3. Hi guys, Does anybody know if the Chicago GSB program (area Economics) has first year core examinations? If so, are they the same than the exams taken by the Economics Department students? Many thanks, ELM.
  4. I am still not clear about the following point. If notification date is day "n", does this mean that the filled out form should arrive at the university on day "n", or is it OK if the package is postmarked on day "n" and it arrives at the university later? I am currently on the waitlist of a top-5 university. The adcom told me that most students that are admitted from the waitlist receive an offer on day "n-1" or "n". Since I am an international student, regular mail takes several days to get to destination, hence the exact timing of these events is very important for me. Thanks!
  5. Did Susan sent you an e-mail? If so, could you please give me her e-mail address? Many thanks.
  6. Could you please give the e-mail address of Susan? Thanks!
  7. I have a question. I would like to bargain for a better offer in a top-10 university I have been admitted. I think that I might have some bargaining power since I have being accepted with full-funding in two additional top-10 programs. The problem is that I'm an international student so its kind of difficult for me to attend the fly-out. Do you think there is a possibility to bargain without attending the fly-out? Trough e-mail or maybe phone? Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks.
  8. I have been offered a position on the waitlist of a top-5 program. Do you think it is OK if I attend the university's fly-out? Or do you think I am uninvited? I was wondering if attending the fly-out could increase my chances to be accepted in the program. Although I would certainly not like to upset any professor. Thanks!
  9. Hi guys, I have the following question. MIT economics asks for 3 LORs. The thing is that I have 4 really good reccomenders. So I was wondering what would happen if I sent 4 LORs instead of 3. What would the adcom think of this? Would it harm or benefit my application? Many thx, ELM
  10. Sorry man, I did not make myself clear. In yale 3 LORs are required, but you have the option to submit more. See the following link: http://www.yale.edu/graduateschool/admissions/policies.html#b2 Letters of Recommendation Three letters of recommendation are required from individuals who can evaluate your academic work, intellectual ability, and/or academic potential for graduate work. At least one recommendation should originate from a faculty member of the last institution you attended as a full-time student. You may submit more than three letters of recommendation.
  11. Hi guys, I have two specific questions about applications: (1) do you have to send 3 or 4 LOR's? I know that in Yale its 4 letters. What about the rest? What happens if they ask for 3 and you send 4? (2) should you send a research paper with your application? I know Chicago requires a writing sample, but what about the other universities? I have two good research papers (one is published in an ISI journal, and the other one is a working paper) that I would like the admission committee to read. Should I enclose them anyway? Or just send one? Or none.... Thx, ELM
  12. Yeah i'm serious. It's a paper where we study the effect of differentiating minimum wages by age in LDC's. I studied undergraduate economics in a LA country (top 5% of promotion) and did a master in economics at the same university (best student of promotion). In the GRE I got 790 quantative and 5.0 analytical. Do you think I have any chance of being accepted at Harvard-MIT-Princeton-Stanford-Yale? Thx
  13. Hi I'm applying this year to a phd in economics. I'm aiming at top 10 schools.... A theoretical paper I wrote with an undergraduate classmate just got accepted for publication in the "journal of development economics." Do you think this publication really increases mi chances in getting accepted in a top 10 school? Thx ELM
