  1. The question is very confusing indeed. iof two vertices are on y -axis then x co-ordinate should be zero.
  2. let avg speed be - y if the new avg speed be 20 +y then time difference should be 1 hr so, 400/y - 400/(y+20) =1 now u can find out y , which is the avg speed of the car.
  3. u may find something at this webpage http://www.freewebs.com/allaboutgre/downloadmaterial.htm
  4. 1. 100x A) 1100x B) y take x =1, y =501 in this case its A now if x =1, y = 5000...1 then its B so its D
  5. overall u have to calcuate mileage between any every two cities so, one has to find the ways in which two cities out of 6 can be chosen....
  6. diagonals of a parallelogram are not equal. they bisect each other at some angle, in this question they bisect at 60 deg. if they bisect at 90 deg then its a rhombus.
  7. correct way of solving.... u have to choose two discrete cities out of a total of 6 cities... what if a table of 25 cities came in the GRE ... will anyone sort out that way??
  8. 1/2^n => 100 for n= 6 u have 2^n = 64 for n =7 u have 128 so least value is 7.
  9. you posted 2)Let A1, A2, A3,,An,,be a sequence of positive numbers where A1+1, and for n³1, An+1 = An+4. which of the following represents the nth term in the sequence? Answer is 4n-3. instead of A1+1 it shud be a1 =1 then keeping the value of n=1 u get 4n-3 = 1 =a1
  10. 1. 100x A) 1100x B) y D 2. 2. If a certain automobile gets between 20 and 24 miles per gallon of gasoline, inclusive, what would be the maximum amount of gasoline, in gallons, this automobile would consume on a trip of 360 miles? A) 20 B) 18 C) 16.4 D) 16 E) 15 maximum amout = 360/20 = 18 minimum amount = 360/24 B 4. 1-X / X-1 = 1/X and x not equal to 1. A) X B) -1/2 x^2 = 1 x =+1/ -1 D 5. A, 6. 6. X > 0 A) 1/x + 1 B) 1/x+1 if, say 1/x + 1 > 1/(x+1) (x+1)^2>1 x^2 + x +1 >0 which is true so, A 7. 7. An experiment has 3 possible outcomes, I, J and K. The possibilities of the outcomes are 0.25, 0.35 and 0.40 respectively. If the experiment is to be performed twice and the successive outcomes are independent, what is the probability that K will be not an outcome either time? A) 0.36 B) 0.40 C) 0.60 D) 0.64 E) 0.80 probability = probability of k occuring neither time = (1-k)x(1-k) = .6x.6 = .36 A 8. 1 gallon = 8 pints and 1 quart = 2 pints A) The least number of half-pint bottles needed to hold x quarts of milk B) The least number of one quart bottles needed to hold x gallons of milk . x qrtr = 2x pints so 4x no of half pint bottles for case 1. x gallons = 8x pints = 4x qrts bottles. C !
  11. if u cant improve ur quants then u cant think of even an average school ..... and if u perform in a similar fasion in main exam then i dont think that u will get even a VISA for US.... so start thinking about beter scores... and all the best....
  12. I think there shud be a figure also with this question.
  13. from n = 1 to 96 either n is odd or n is even probability that n is even itself is = 50% when n is even n*(n+1)*(n+2) = multiple of 8 when n is odd then n+1 = even = shud be a multiple of 8 that means out of 96 nos. there can be 12 multiples of 8 that gives probability = 1/8 more adding both = 50% + 12.5% = 62.5% let me know whether my approach is correct or not.
  14. yes prome... u r right The routes i counted were already been counted. the answer is 18
  15. Hi to everyone, i agree with pomegranatesrgood, the answer is 18. 1) The route of fly equals 3 edges, it can be a) AB,BC,CH or AB,BG,GH (from A to B and then from B) AB,BC,CD,DE,EH AB,BC,CD,DE,EF,FG,GH b) AF,FG,GH or AF,FE,EH (from A to F and then from F) AF,FG,GB,BC,CH AF,FG,GB,BC,CD,DE,EH c) AD,DC,CH or AD,DE,EH (from A to D and then from D) AD,DC,CB,BG,GH AD,DC,CB,BG,GF,FE,EH note: none of the vertices have been repeated Hence there are 24 routes.
  16. 1.A cistern contains 50 liters of water. 5 litre of water is taken out of it and replaced by wine. The process is repeated again. Find the proportion of wine and water in the resulting mixture. A) 1:4 B) 41:50 C) 19:81 D) 81:19 E) 1:7 in repeated procedure we will take 5 liters or 1/10th of the original amt???? initially there are 50l of water after one time, 5l - wine , 45l - water if 5l are removed, then wine removed = 5 *1/10 water removed = 45*9/10 now after 5l of wine are added again = 5 + 5 - 5/10 water removed = 45 - 45*9/10 so wine left = 95/10 ; water = 45*9/10 3.7 identical balls have to be distributed to 4 people such that each one gets at least one ball. What are the number of ways of distribution such that at least one gets 3 balls? A) 7 B) 28 C) 81 D) 2401 E) None of these pls explain???i didnt understand this one from previous forums 1 can be given 3 balls in 4c1 ways 1 can be given 2 ball in 3c1 ways so answer is 4c1*3c1 = 12 5.The number of ways a lawn tennis mixed double can be made up from seven married couple if no husband and wife play in same set is. A) 210 B) 420 C) 840 D) 1680 E) None of These (7C1*7C1)*(6C1*6C1) -7C2 - 7C1*(6C1*5C1) = 1533 6.There is a polygon with 10 sides. A point is there in the middle of the polygon and all the vertices are joined with the point and therefore producing 10 triangles. In exactly how many ways can you select three triangles no two of which are adjacent. A) 112 B) 120 C) 468 D) 710 E) None of these 10C3 - 10C1*8C1 = 40 9.4 boys and 4 girls sit in a row at random. The probability that 4 girls sit together is A) 1/14 B) 1/12 C) 3/7 D) 9/13 E) 10/13 is the ans for these one is 1/14 10.Meg and Bob are among the 5 participants in a cycling race. If each participant finishes the race and no two participants finish at the same time, in how many different possible orders can the participants finish the race so that Meg finishes ahead of Bob? A) 24 B) 30 C) 60 D) 90 E) 120 i think the ans for these one is 24.what do u think guys 11.r > 3 Column A The average rate when r words are typed in 3 hours Column B The average rate when 3 words are typed in r hours A) if the quantity in column A is greater. B) if the quantity in column B is greater. C) if the quantities are equal. D) if the relationship cannot be determined from the information […] is the ans for these one is a????? 13.If the sequence x1, x2, x3, …, xn, … is such that x1 = 3 and xn+1 = 2xn – 1 for n ≥ 1, then x20 – x19 = A. 219 B. 220 C. 221 D. 220 - 1 E. 221 - 1 PS.Above are my answers only and should not be confused/compared with actual answers.:)
  17. i think its 24....do u people agree? 3*2*2*2 = 24
  18. My answer is 12. is it correct?
  19. Always use the following approach to deal with surds.... sqrrt(3+sqrt5) = sqrt a + sqrt b [ say ] square both sides a+b = 3 4ab = 5 so, 5 =4(3-b)b => 5 = 12b -4b^2 => 4b^2 -12b +5 = 0 => (2b-5)(2b-1) = 0 => b = 5/2 , 1/2 ; a =1/2,5/2 so it gives , sqrt(5/2) + sqrt(1/2) P.S Can u find the sqrt of [sqrt11 + sqrt17 + sqrt19] ?
  20. from nil to 3-4 I advice u to practice all the questions as much as u can, wt if they come at the starting?...can u afford to let them go?....
  21. just keep the value of n = 1 , only in 1st one you will get 1... so rest at eliminated .
  22. mine question was mixed with x-y diagram... nothing to worry abt .... the difficulty level is same in either case.
