let avg speed be - y if the new avg speed be 20 +y then time difference should be 1 hr so, 400/y - 400/(y+20) =1 now u can find out y , which is the avg speed of the car.

Always use the following approach to deal with surds.... sqrrt(3+sqrt5) = sqrt a + sqrt b [ say ] square both sides a+b = 3 4ab = 5 so, 5 =4(3-b)b => 5 = 12b -4b^2 => 4b^2 -12b +5 = 0 => (2b-5)(2b-1) = 0 => b = 5/2 , 1/2 ; a =1/2,5/2 so it gives , sqrt(5/2) + sqrt(1/2) P.S Can u find the sqrt of [sqrt11 + sqrt17 + sqrt19] ?
