  1. Dixit the prophet: The article was published in 1995.
  2. congratulations!! no teaching load would be nice..;)
  3. out of all the on-campus buildings we toured to, i liked the warehouse and sidney-pacific the most. edgerton was the only one I didn't see, but it's unfurnished, so... i think s&p houses the most grad students and a lot of econ first-years are living there. ("instant study group"?) i'm also considering 100 memorial drive. the apts are spacious. it's less than 1 min of walk from the econ building, which may be a plus or minus depending on your utility curve...but you can get a fairly good price (compared to the on-campus housing) sharing with 2 other people.
  4. MIT - Applied micro and development
  5. the warehouse, s&p, and offcampus are the three options for me. (i already entered the lottery since we can change the preference/withdraw anytime before May 18.) i'm interested in applied micro/development.
  6. i think nyu is moving to waitlist this coming week. good luck!!
  7. they didn't say how many were admitted, but there were a lot of people here. i would say over 30 or even 40? and they are shooting for a class size of 25. the impression i got is that they have very good people doing applied micro and they are willing to coauthor with students. so if you are interested in applied micro, it's a good place to be. in terms of job placement, the good thing is that they want everyone to get what they want. some people there just don't want to go to academia for various reasons (it's another question whether they would have gotten a job if they had wanted to). in the recent two years people have gone to (or are going to) Cornell public policy (2), IUB, UHouston, Syracuse U, some top liberal arts colleges, some good universities abroad.
  8. i see. thanks for the info!
  9. Maybe you are right. And that's why you have "XXX school (endowed)" - that means an admission i suppose. Also at least one Princeton admit got the honorable mention. I plan to leave after dinner. Hmm, I will see how the day goes..
  10. correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't a top school admission increase one's chance of getting the award? (it's interesting that none of the princeton admits listed "princeton" as their graduate institution...) on a different note, i will probably see you in princeton AND penn...do you plan to go to penn on the 27th or 28th?
  11. project assistantship. it was mentioned in the funding waitlist email.
  12. the website is https://my.wisc.edu/. there should be an email (sent out a while ago) instructing you how to create an account, etc. my status is still "pending" but i got an acceptance email yesterday.
  13. i asked her about my ranking..and that's her reply i will probably see you there then:)
  14. I'm "waitlisted for funding". I didn't ask about the probability but my position on the waitlist - Kelly Quinn said it's best to give me a relative standing in a week or so after there's been some movement. In her second email to all the admitted students (maybe wls too, not sure) she attached some info about a local hostel. Hopefully that's helptul. (I'll be staying with friends if I visit..)
  15. Purdue extended the deadline to Mar 31
  16. i believe so, but not sure about the waitlists
  17. hi olive and zoether, i'm very likely to turn down their fellowship offer. did you just receive the email about the fly-out? you should definitely visit and show them your interest. maybe i will see you there! best of luck!
  18. good thread. along with the question: what math textbooks are good? (especially for measure theory and topology)
  19. and when did you get the email? congratulations!!
  20. cornell on the phone: "unfortunately, your file has been reviewed and you are rejected" (emphasis added)
