  1. I think we are comparing actions here.. how a book reads instead of comparing the books.. for this reason as should be used and will go with C though seem changes the meaning a bit
  2. Mike, Congrats and enjoy like you are dude. 10 beers? have 2 more.. make it a dozen :) Share your experiences in verbal when you get a chance..especially the question breakup between SC, RC and CR..and if you could for math too. thanks
  3. Folks, A doesn't fit in with how independent clauses should be joined. Also if choice D didn't have the ing form of the verbs and had infinitives, what would you rather chose? Also the usage of 'with' in choice D isn't confusing because it refers to the subject since comma separated expressions can be considered parenthetic. would really appreciate if somebody can explain..thanks
  4. For the first question, I find A incorrect because its construction is like IC1,and clause-2 but clause-2 isn't an independent clause.(Who had the power to do A and B.) Also I am confused with the usage of with.Does it relate to the subject or to the preceding noun? Can somebody please help? Thanks
  5. charu, If I chose option B, .... 'that' will refer to the nearest noun ( wing span),right?? I mean unlike it, that can't refer to the Quez....? Please explain. thanks
  6. Is 'rather than' always better than 'instead of' in GMAT?
  7. IMOC.In B, I think there is another problem.... since is used as a coordinating conjunction. Since if used as a conjunction doesn't need a comma. can somebody please comment on this point? is my understanding correct? forti, were you thinking of IC1;furthermore,IC2 when you said it requires a semi colon before and a comma after it.
  8. B has more problems than D because it is not clear what 'they' refers to.
  9. I don't think A is a run-on sentence. You need two IC joined with a , to create that. In A the meaning is not clear. C fixes that by keeping related words together. ( effort was begun 2 years ago, not the health care of children). One request please don't post the answers without allowing sufficient time for discussion.
  10. In this question, if choice D was "D) not all the proceedings of the Communist party conference held in Moscow have been carried live", what would be the correct answer? thanks
  11. Skarya, I think the issue is not run-on sentence with choice C but a series in which the last part doesn't have an and.Run-on sentence issue occurs with independent clauses.
  12. In C, increasing CO2 in the atmosphere resulting from......gives a sense that atmosphere is a result of combustion..... so I would go with B....is this reasoning correct?
  13. what is the source of this question? E is the only one making some sense...
  14. needless to say i chose D. but i got your point... thanks.
  15. Can you please elaborate? How did you infer from the sentence that employees were aware that the company won't pay any retirement benefits? I am not very clear about the reasons for a preference for 'though' over 'still'? Both these are not coordinating conjunctions.... I can't even find 'still' in the list of subordinating conjunctions... colloquially I agree it is widely used and the usage conforms to the patterns described above..
  16. A related question : Can since be used in the sense of a reason instead of a time reference?
  17. Is the referent of pronoun 'his' in choice C clearer because of 'his own'? IMO C.I flipped the choices C and D like'To demonstrate A, Mozart began doing B'and 'To demonstrate A, Mozart was doing' Here 'was' doesn't establish the causal relationship. Consider,To get attention, the child started crying. To get attention, the child was crying....any takers?
  18. IMO A because it says to get membership you must have A and B. It however doesn't say you only need A and B and nothing else. This is the reason I chose A. Beatit, can you assume that entertainment industry is a superset of holloywood in the context of this CR since that information isn't provided.
  19. yes D..... because one new company this year could provide more jobs than all the new companies last year.... but since the conclusion was otherwise, D must have been assumed. in short, negation.
  20. Sorry I meant E. the effectiveness of the pamphlet as a method to achieve the official's goal is not determined by how many people it reaches but by whether the recipient is likely to follow the advice contained in it.
  21. In this discussion, how does a subordinate clause come into picture?...could you guys elaborate please?
  22. I would go for D on second thoughts.. took is better than 'had taken' and that x and that y is more parallel.
