Hello everyone! I gave my general gre on 20th march and scored 1350(770+580).:( I am currently pursuing computer engg at Mit,Pune (Pune university,India).I am currently in my third year(2nd sem).I intend to do my ms in Cs. My acads are 64.5 %(for 5 sems).But i have no research experience and found out from edulix.com that to get in top 20-30 universities one indeed needs good research experience. My doubt was whether subject gre for cs would really help me in my admits? One guy from Pune univ had given agre and scored 750.His gre general was meager 1230 and got pretty good(in fact great for that score) admits 8/10 (gatech,Nyu,Ncsu,asu,jhu etc).:rolleyes: Will a good score in agre really bolster my profile and offset for lack of research experience? Please do reply soon.If its indeed helpful,I will have to start studying right away if i have to give agre in november(from India) Is it really worth giving bcoz it costs 150 $ :p(i think) Calmlogic and MDK your views will be greatly appreciated.:)

Hi No need of doing any extra wordlist.BARRONs is MORE THAN SUFFICIENT. I would suggest you to concentrate more on rc's and practice as many tests as you can once you have done with barrons.

Thanks Oldman You have been quite helpful to me here! For Quant ,I dont know about barrons.I never did from it...and i found only maybe 3-4 questions which were quite difficult...others were cakewalk..surprisingly i was fantastic in combinatorics and didnt get a single problem on it!I felt luck plays a factor...had I not got di at very start ..maybe I had scored 790 or even 800...because i wasted some time on di earlier..I had to be fast afterwards...and as such messed up with a geometry(not solid..related to rotation...) which brought down my score to 770...Try doing as much problems from OG guide u mentioned earlier..It was quite good compared to real gre.. Believe me it is still easy to score 800 in quants just practice as much u can and little bit of luck...thats it..and yes problems do require workout...u cant orally guess most answers...so time management is very very important...you have to be fast right from beginning ... For verbal,NO words from verbal...Except the first RC which i got i didnt find anything much difficult..in fact analogies and antonyms were cakewalk....sc's were a bit tough(or maybe due to exam pressure)...I dont think you will have problem in verbal..you are quite good at it. I would advice you to concentrate on quant in terms of speed and accuracy...for verbal barrons is more than sufficient..but concentrate more on rc's. I got two sets of questions from di..the first one at 3-4 which i found one of them difficult(or maybe i didnt understood it)..the rest ones were fairly straightforward..So dont be tensed just get your basics right...practice as much as possible and be fast ..i really had to pace myself later ..many of my friends being good in quant had to guess last 5-6 questions...So concentrate on speed (and of course accuracy:p) For verbal,as i have said above,concentrate on rcs..if they come in first five questions and you mess it up:crazy:..you have to pay heavy penalty as i have paid..rest was very easy..analogies were straightforward..sc's were ok...Barrons is more than enough

style may be same but difficulty has definitely risen but a bit only.I used to finish pp tests 10 minutes to spare...actual test i finished just on time. But the test can be aced..just need a bit of luck..i was unlucky to get di at third question...and didnt understand the question itself forget the answer..and u have to pay penalty if u mess up first few questions..Try doing from OG gmat guide ..it has 344 questions which are very good practice:cool:

Hi guys I gave my gre today and screwed it up.My score-1350,770 Quant 580-verbal The argument i got was pretty tough and that reallytook toll on me which reflected i my scores. Quant:was pretty easy ...got mostly the third question wrong ..it was di..didnt understand it and had to pay the penalty..2-3 questins were tricky and think messed with it..I should have got 800..nevertheless thats how it works.. Verbal: I messed up with rcs got them at 5th question and was bit tough...words were asked from barrons.Rest of verbal was easy. My Advice: Do Barrons well and concentrate more on rcs. Quant you have to practice well thats the only alternative some questions are indeed tricky and time management is very important.. I wished to cross 1400..my pp scores were 1460 and 1400 ... Any questions i would be happy to answer I would like to thank testmagic team for this wonderful site it really helped me a lot.

If you leave the question unanswered there is definitely a larger penalty than guessing it wrong.

Given a rectangular solid with length 4, height 3 and breadth 3. If it is cut vertically along its diagonal, how much is the surface area of one of the halves to the total? I dont have the answer maybe we could discuss.I am getting 9/22.What are your views guys?

Whenever such problem comes it is better to verify using values...Consider |X|^2>1 Foe X=1/2, we get 1/4>1 which is untrue...so X>1 hope it helps

It has to be A.Whats the source skawal?Maybe some printing mistake? y=n^3/450...and nothing is given of y,n just that they are positive integers..the question is asking "must" means at all values of n,y which it will never satisfy
