  1. I will also go to Cornell.I am looking forward to seeing you all. I am a Turkish student and interested in econometrics and its applications.yet, my interests may change!!another Turkish student(who I do not meet personally) is also coming to Cornell. I hope as the new class, we can have a good social life(as good as we can have as first-year students) while succeding in the courses.I am not sure how possible it is tough. about the math camp,I e-mailed eric maroney and morten nielsen.they told me that they have not decided about the date yet.they will notify us when it is determined.as far as I know , I begins 10 days earlier (around 13,august).
  2. I will decline UCLA and Wisconsin-Madison; and will attend Cornell.:)
  3. I heard that the department of economics at UCLA has some problems, both financial and administrative, nowadays. some people already left UCLA, a macro guy Levine and some labor guy. these are common knowledge.my insider information(maybe it is also common knowledge) is that Duncan and Hotz will also leave and go to Duke.as far as I know some other people will also leave in a year or so. Indeed, this was expected since UCLA is a public school and has some financial problems for about two years. they are losing some very productive profs to the schools which has no financial problem at all. the classic cycle of a public school, maybe.they have been doing very good placements recently, but future seems not so promising. just information for people considering UCLA...
  4. I receieved the same e-mail about the first year's funding,too.
  5. I have not heard from UCLA and Penn, too. I sent an e-mail to PEnn.they told me that they would reconsider some small amount of applications and my application is in that file. I think I am just on the border.it is a low probability to be in for me. if you have a short e-mail saying that decisions will be made next week, I quess you will probably be rejected. sorry if I am too pessimistic. I am really curious about UCLA. did anyone send an e-mail to UCLA?
  6. For Cornell: I received an e-mail admitting my application. I have three friends of mine who got rejection via mail. so, if you are not rejected by now, you are probably on the waiting list. I think Cornell is a kind of insurance for "very top" students ( not for me :( ).therefore, I guess that many admitted people will reject their offers and people on the waiting list have a great chance to be accepted. good luck to all.
  7. you can see the discussion about Cornell 's placement performance with this link: http://www.www.urch.com/forums/phd-economics/64988-placement-performace-cornell.html
  8. I am also on the waiting list.I received the notification yesterday be e-mail.I was expecting an acceptance from Brown. Is Brown better that it seems on the rankings?
  9. thank you very much.I will be in touch with you for my questions about Cornell.
  10. your theory looks promising.Indeed, I want to believe what you say. are you happy there?(both in academic and social terms) what are your research interests?who do you want to work with? am i asking too personal questions?if so, i apologize.
  11. dear jcn, I also received fellowship for two years and $20K for the academic year + appx. $4K four all summers.Yet, I am still worried when I look at past placements.Maybe, we should contact a faculty member from Cornell about the issue.I am not sure.
  12. I am accepted by Cornell with funding for 5 years.Yet, I look at their past placements on the web, they are not good.(even they are very bad!)I will be very happy if anybody wants to share his/her opinions, information, etc.
