I heard that the department of economics at UCLA has some problems, both financial and administrative, nowadays. some people already left UCLA, a macro guy Levine and some labor guy.
these are common knowledge.my insider information(maybe it is also common knowledge) is that Duncan and Hotz will also leave and go to Duke.as far as I know some other people will also leave in a year or so.
Indeed, this was expected since UCLA is a public school and has some financial problems for about two years. they are losing some very productive profs to the schools which has no financial problem at all.
the classic cycle of a public school, maybe.they have been doing very good placements recently, but future seems not so promising.
