Did he apply the Phd program in the Rady school of management at UCSD? I called them last Friday and was told that there will be no interview. Until now, I have not gotten the interview from them. Maybe I am not on the short list. Anyway, they will tell us the results tomorrow.

Thanks guys. You information gives me a better idea about this program. However, the faculty in Rady are pretty good. Do you guys think it worth me to turn down the offer from UC-Davis(Econ phd) for UCSD(if they accept me)? My interest is in asset pricing and financial economics, and UCSD have several great professors in this area while the econ department at UCD only have 1 or 2 professors doing this. For measure theory, I recommend the following book: Evans, L. C. and Gariepy, R. F. Measure Theory and Fine Properties of Functions. Boca Raton, FL: CRC Press, 1992. In my opinion, it is much easier for guys who are not major in math.

I do not know who decide the recruiting of TA in US. In china, professors who need TA tell their need to the graduate coordinator, and students who wish to get a TA can go to the coordinator and choose the courses they want to teach. Just be admitted to the phd program in university of connecticut, however, no financial aid. Is there any possibility to get a RA or TA by contacting professors? What is more, since I am now a graduate student majored in math and have been a teaching assistant for two years, can I find a TA from the department of mathematics? Thank you!
