  1. Do what you want, it is your life. However, if it were me, I would sleep easier knowing that my application was considered rather than hoping many people on this forum are incorrect about using test scores as a cutoff. Many of these top schools receive in excess of 200-300 applications and there is no way that they have the time or desire to thoroughly go through them all and test scores seem to be an easy way to eliminate part of the field. I would say take the test you perform the best on. I used the GRE (never took the GMAT) and that worked out pretty well for me.
  2. The GRE is acceptable for nearly all schools. I took the GRE and it didn't present any problems for me. In my eyes, one strength of the GMAT is that you can achieve a higher Quant percentile. For example, a perfect 800 on the GRE is only the 94th %ile whereas on the GMAT, you can get the 99th. In my eyes, though, there is little difference at that level. The main goal of standardized testing is for the admissions committee to immediately throw applications below a given level and getting above the 90th %ile should get you past that round of cuts. Just go with the test you think you can score better on, or you could probably take them both and submit the better score. Good Luck
  3. When I was up there, it seems that someone mentioned it beginning August 20, but I could be wrong . . .
  4. Cool! How did you find you place? I need to start looking soon, I guess.
  5. I noticed a couple of people in the Profiles and Results thread, but I was wondering who is going to be in Ann Arbor in the fall? I won't be up there for econ (I will be in the finance program), but I suppose we'll all see each other and maybe work with each other at Math Camp and other first year courses. Congrats!
  6. From Caddyshack (I think it works for our friend jeeves): Carl Spackler: Cinderella story. Outta nowhere. A former greenskeeper, now, about to become the Masters champion. It looks like a mirac... It's in the hole! It's in the hole! It's in the hole! Congrats, Jeeves:tup:
  7. Your question is a bit broad and lacks the important specific information, namely your profile, to get any meaningful responses. In short, apply to a bunch of place across a somewhat broad range of schools. The cost of the applying many places is, in my mind, money well spent. Good Luck!
  8. Program: Finance GRE Score: Quant 800 Verbal 690 AWA 4.5 Undergrad GPA: 3.81 in Electrical Engineering Graduate GPA: 3.75 in Electrical Engineering Publications/Research experience: Masters Thesis Attending: Michigan Admitted: Michigan, Texas-Austin, UNC-CH, Florida, Maryland, WUSTL, Texas A&M Rejected: Cornell, Duke, Wharton, Carnegie Mellon, Columbia, Kellogg Withdrew: OSU, NYU
  9. Several months after finally deciding to pursue this thing, I finally know my destination for the fall. After narrowing it down to UNC, Texas-Austin, and Michigan, I called to decline UNC and UT-Austin in favor of Michigan![dance] Good luck to those still waiting and deciding!
  10. Not quite yet . . . I have narrowed it to Michigan, Texas-Austin, and UNC. This is a pretty tough choice and will certainly be glad when I finally make a decision!
  11. congrats sanera! I am sure you will be very successful!
  12. Being an engineer (BS and MS in EE) myself that got some solid admits (in my opinion) in finance programs, let me tell you that you would have a great shot at getting into b-schools (I don't know much about econ admissions). What I did was get together with the PhD coordinator at my school and let him advise me on schools to apply to and classes to take. I am taking intermediate micro and macro and doing some econometrics self study. Other than that, I have zero experience in business or econ and I feel like I had a very successful season. Best of Luck!
  13. I think if you turn "hard to guess" to "almost certain" and "probably" to "definitely," then you have a good shot at some great schools. At the top level, most everyone has strong academic profiles and great test scores. The main thing you should focus on, in my opinion, is making sure the people writing your letters really think you have potential and will go to bat for you. Good Luck!
