  1. you must solve this equation in two ways the first way it to take it in its positive form: x+2 = 2(x-2).....x=6 the second way is in its negative form (switching the signs): -x-2 = -2(-x+2)....x=2/3 6+2/3 = 20/3
  2. 1/2-1/7 = 5/14 5/14 IS what % OF 1/7 5/14 divided by 1/7 = x/100 5/14 * 7/1 = x/100 5/2 = x/100 x=250
  3. beautiful, thanks so much for your help. appreciate it.
  4. someone?!? anyone?!? so many views so little help!!
  5. so you want to get all the bases to be the same; thats your first goal. to do this a rule of exponents is that when you have the same base to any exponent you add the exponents keeping the same base. example: 2^10 * 2^2 = 2^12. so you do that for each one. so for 2^11 you multiply that by 2^1 to get 2^12. so on and so forth. as with any fractions, whatever you multiply the denominator by you do that to the numerator. so for the fraction 2^10 you multiplied by 2^2 so you multiply the top by 2^2 which is 4 so the fraction 1/2^10 become 4/2^12. do this for each question and add as you would any set of fractions and you will see that it reduces to 8/2^12. Now 8 is the same as 2^3. So you have 2^3/2^12. This reduces to 1/2^9 which is answer C. enjoy if i made no sense during that whole rant, msg me, i will explain more clearly. haha
  6. since he bought 15 of the 3000 possible tickets, he has a 15/3000 chance of winning the one price. now the probability of him not winning is 1 - 15/3000. You can think of this simply at 3000-15/3000 = 2985/3000. This reduces to 199/200. Which is D. Hope that helps.
  7. please help, (1/5)^m * (1/4)^18 = 1/2*10^35 m=? a.17 b.18 c.34 d.35 e.36 really need your help with this one guys. just plain lost!!
  8. i came across this question on a GMATPrep test. it totally threw me off since i had never seen such a question. thanks for your help, the OA is D.
  9. i will provide the OA once a few more people have a chance take a crack at it. please help me out here and explain the process of handling such a question. thanks
