  1. Do they pay for MBA/MPA classes? What would be the salary like with a MA in Econ?
  2. I am not sure. but it is not enough for living expense for sure. By the way, you should write them an e-mail to see if the are willing to give you a stipend or not. They are still trying to get more student. And they had sent a 2nd wave of stipend offers already. you could be 3rd?
  3. micro theory? yes there are a people doing micro theory. Atila, Curt taylor, Yildrim etc.
  4. I go to Duke. There are only 4-5 Macro faculties( craig burnside, Juan Ramirez, Pietro Perro, and Barbara Rossi) at the department. They hired another senior faculty:Federico Bugni from Northwestern. As for junior recruiting, Jimmy Roberts from Northwestern, Franceso Bianchi from Princeton, and Cosmin Ilut from Northwestern. Basically, we swept off Northwestern this yearhttp://www.www.urch.com/forums/../images/smilies/smile.gif I am not sure which one of the junior guys are macro, but you can definitely find their CVs online. From my understanding, Macro may be the weakest field in our department.

  6. If you take all the first-year PhD econ classes and do really well, that is the best signal you can achieve.
  7. I think there are people come into PhD programs with intention of a free Masters, but it generally happens in lower ranked schools. People do want to end up with a PhD in most cases even they decide not to go into Academia.
  8. I think academia is a great career. You get to choose your own schedule. You are not stuck with 9-5 job. you can take summer off or just do research as you like. You are thinking about some useful topics which interest you. Moreover, if you like teaching, you are enlightening some mature students hopefully(compared to K-12 teaching). Academia does give you the option of spending more time to spend with your family or at least how you want to do it. Frankly, I think the money is not that bad. My far-distant vision: I would like to start my own business once I am tenured. Do you hear of any faculty do it?
  9. my two cents: go to Duke. Duke offers you a better undergraduate program overall and it has a better graduate econ department. Plus, You are still a sophomore. God forbid, you may change your mind. So, imho you should to optimize your future options by choosing the better undergrad program out of the two which i think, is Duke.
  10. Your profile will be very impressive in a few years.
  11. LOL. Now that I think about it I don't know what I was thinking. It definitely doesn't sound right.
  12. Cats/dogs are substitute goods for girlfriends.
  13. Dogs are notorious for chewing PhD thesis! get a cat.
  14. true. I don't think OSU is that great in your fields of interest.
  15. which cities in Bangladesh are you from, Sam and Asian?
  16. Yeah. You made the right choice too. Ohio State was just amazing. Hajime Miyazaki is awesome.
