A person who is fit would receive a routine physical checkup by a doctor less regularly than would a person who is out of shape. B. The medical expenses incurred by employees who are required to participate in the fitness program would be less than those incurred by employees who are not required to participate. C. The strenuous activities required of out-of-shape employees by the program would not by themselves generate medical expenses greater than any reduction achieved by the program. D. 11. Since applied scientific research is required for tech- nological advancement, many have rightly urged an increased emphasis in universities on applied research. But we must not give too little attention to basic research, even though it may have no foresee- able application, for tomorrow’s applied research will depend on the basic research of today. If the statements above are true, which of the following can be most reliably inferred? (A) If future technological advancement is desired, basic research should receive greater emphasis than applied research. (B) If basic research is valued in universities, applied research should be given less emphasis than it currently has. © If future technological advancement is desired, research should be limited to that with some foreseeable application. (D) If too little attention is given to basic research today, future technological advancement will be jeopardized. (E) If technological advancement is given insufficient emphasis, basic research will also receive too little attention. OA is can someone explain pls?

Pre-1975 automobiles can run on both leaded and unleaded gasoline. D. Automobiles using only leaded gasoline were driven, on avg, fewer miles in 1988 than the average for all automobiles. E. 17. Even though air bags make cars safer in crashes, the law does not require car manufacturers to equip new cars with these lifesaving restraints. THis lack of regulation disadvantages many people, for only car buyers who can afford the extra cost of air bags now enjoy that superior crash protection. Just as all milk is required by law to be pasteurized to protect people against the bovine tuberculosis in raw milk, cars should be required by law to be equipped with air bags to mzximize vehicle safety. Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the author's argument? A) Car buyers wh can afford to do so choose cars equipped with airbags in preference to cars not equipped with airbags B) Car manufacturers should not equip cars with air bags solely to compensate for deficiencies in the steering power of cars. C) The cost of equipping a new car with an airbag will decrease over time as car manfuacturers find more efficient ways of making and instaling airbags. D) Equipping cars with air bags will not decrease significantly the number of car crashes E) Since tuberculosis is infectious, people who drink unpasteurized milk are a threat to public health, whereas people who drive cars without air bags at most endanger the life of the car's occupants.
