  1. Sorry for my poor grammer/spelling It's to early for my brain to work.
  2. Hey adonis, Well it sounds like your more interested in the computer engineering side of EE so I comment on a view schools that have good CPE departments as well as EE depts. with good CPE curriculums. Penn State is ranked 16th in computer engineering (and 19th for EE) and has a very impressive curriculum. I engcourage you to check them out at http://www.engr.psu.edu. As far as I know the other schools you applied to have strengths in electrophysics stuff like plasmas, microwaves, antennas and not so much in your interest area. For your area I would encourage you to apply to USC and UCLA. Both of these school have reputable professors in the area of signal proccessing and some research at USC is done in conjunction with CalTech. You should be able to get into USC and UCLA-Its not as hard as people say! Just for your info ASU requires quant score of 90 percentile. You already achieved this but I thought you should know what your up against in the application pool. If you like Penn State I'll be going there in the Spring so you can ask me additional questions. I'm also a domestic student in California so if you want to know about school reputations I'm in a position to comment. Good Luck!
  3. Hey Adonis, What is your intended area of interest? I can better assist you if you tell me what you want to study in EE.
  4. Hey Joey, I would say that your credentials are very good and you should apply to all of the universities that you mentioned. However, depending on where you plan to situate after grad school some choices are better than others. Most of the high tech jobs are on the west coast (like Silicon valley) and as a Californian I can tell you that despite its high ranking CMU is not well known in industry out here. On the other hand UMich and GTech are very well known out here. I'm sure if you went to the east coast CMU would be well recognized. But why not go to schools that are known on both coasts. The reason I chose Penn State is because of its coast to coast national recognition and not strictly because of its ranking. Just my two cents!
  5. Please help somebody! I need to make a decision by next week.
  6. Hey Harbinger, I don't understand what you mean when you say Penn State isn't ranked as high as ohter universities. Penn State is ranked 19th in ECE and USC and Maryland are tied at 14th (the rankings jump from 14th to 19th in ECE by U.S. News). I think a difference in 5 ranking spots is too insignificant to value a school by its ranking. CMU is in Pittsburgh which is a dirty city (steel capitol of the USA) and way too expensive to attend only for an M.S.. Would you please elaborate on your comments?
  7. I need some help deciding which schools to attend for my M.S. in electrical engineering. My main area of interest are RFIC's/MMIC's and microwave systems. I have been accepted to Penn State, USC, Arizona State, University of Maryland, Carnegie Mellon, Ohio State and University of Colorado-Boulder. I was leaning towards Penn State because of their strong reputation. As for USC , I am from Los Angeles and I can tell you that this is the worst place to live without a doubt. Despite my feelings about Los Angeles I would still like to hear some of your opinions.
  8. As native born U.S. citizen I feel compelled to comment on the post by arpitsheth. How in the world did you, Arpitsheth, ever score a 700 on the verbal section? The language and grammar used in your post resembles that of a ten year old child in the U.S.. I would like to send your post to ETS and have them explain the huge discrepancy between your high verbal score and abysmal writing and language skills. I write this post not as a bitter GRE test taker but instead to let future U.S. students know that the sky high scores obtained by many foreign students, especially those from India, do not always accurately reflect the skills intended to be tested. In fact, I received 760 Q/ 500 V on the GRE and admits to Penn State, University of Wisconsin, Carnegie Mellon, USC and Ohio State all in electrical engineering.
  9. Hi, I'm new to this site. I am preparing to take the GRE in 2 months. I am presently taking practice test from the "ETS 10 real GRE's" and studying kaplan's math review. I am presently scoring on average between 620 and 680. I was wondering if anyone started studying with these kinds of scores and were able to pull of a score above 700, since this is what I need. Also, please no one from india reply to this post because I am from the U.S.A. and standards are different for those from india. As a side note, I noticed that almost everyone from india in this forum scored near 800 in quantitative. Are all these people geniouses? What is their secret.
  10. Hey, what's the deal with this site? If your not scoring over 780 in Quant. nobody is interested. How about helping give advice to people who really need it and not people trying to push a 750 to a 780.
  11. Please help! I just took the kaplan quantitative diagnostic and recieved a 500. I am an engineering student and am very depressed if this scored is an indication of what my GRE score for Quant. could be. Any input on how to interpret this test or if it is a good indicator or if I'm just plain stupid would help.
  12. Hey entropy, could you repeat what your GRE quant. score was because I saw that you posted that it was 710. I am a bit perplexed as to how you could get that kind of score missing 12 problem or so in the quant. section breakdown you provided. You also missed 4 questions out of the first ten in the quant. section. I thought not missing to many of those first ten questions was critical to getting over a 700 in quant. If my information about your score is correct I feel a lot better about getting over a 700 in quant. since I need to because I am an engineering student.
  13. Still waiting for some replies!
