  1. Hi Shruti, FOr vocab I used Barrons and Norman lewis"word power made easy".and downloaded a few softwares from net for practicing. maths I mostly did from RS Aggrwal, ETS 9th edition and practices a lot from the GRE maths forum in TestMagic only. also took a lot of online tests whichever I found from google. for AWA did a little research in net on specific topics. u can get a no of useful sites for prep from various postings in respective section of this forum. I am staying in Illinois and looking for an admit in some university in illinois only. also got my first admit in Bradley university last week. still waiting for other responses.
  2. Hello Nidhi, Shruti and others on the H4 visa, I am on the same visa here and was really really frustrated in less than 1 month of coming here, after leaving my wonderful job in India. I am through with my GRE and applied for Fall. Normally u will not find any university having last dates later than 15th Jan for international students. U hav only option of applying for Spring session. the last dates for which are usually in sep end. The whole process will not take less than 1 yr before u could join the course. so dont get frustrated and make up yr mind for spring session. So study hard. u hav lots of time to research on universities of yr choice and prepare for the tests. All the best.
  3. Hello Kfree , congratulations on your score. I too logged in the forum after a long time. i join you and laura with almost the same score. Q-790, V-670, AWA-5.5. where all have you guys applied.
  4. yep sanjana, yr ans are correct. but I have one doubt in Q1. in the quest there is nowhere stated that "k" is an integer, so how do we assume that 1-k>0 means k is -ve. it can have a positive fraction value and still satisfy the condition. what do you say??
  5. Q1)given: -10 k^2 > 4 1 - k > 0 COLUMN A COLUMN B k 0 2) "In a sequence, the first three values are the first three prime integers in ascending order, and each of the succeeding values is the sum of all the preceding values, what is the ratio of the Thirtieth value to the Twenty-fifth value in the sequence?" 6/5 32 64 128 230
  6. 3 ) I got ans : p= q/5 or -3q, but none matching the given ans!!
  7. Hey Sambyr, thats an excellent essay. well structured with good flow. I dont seem to find any flaw in it:) what is yr field of study?? I bet its not engineering. you related to arts or literature?? I read one more essay which you posted few days back. you have great writing skills.
  8. hey Rumen, you have written down the factors of 30 instead of its multiples. i agree with you on that all the multiples of 30 are also multiples of 2, thfr, ratio should be 1:1, but its not in the ans choices:shy:
  9. hi Rumen, i dont know the actual answers, but I agree with yr 1st and 3rd ans. isnt there any formula to calculate the 2nd ans?? BTW how did you do the 1st one? by diffrentiating wrt to p and the equating to zero or there is any other method also?
  10. 1) 0 the greatest value of p(1-p) *********** 1/2 2) Sum of first n negative integer powers of 2; 2^-1 + 2^-2 + 2^-3......+2^-n ********** 1 3) xy +y^2=3 x **************** y
  11. Hey Laura, i am late in checking yr posting. Anyway, Congratulations!!!! thats an awesome score. Very well done. All the best. Enjoy yr weekend and Vacation.
  12. hello Zenith200, i could in no way figure out the 1st ans, however, for the 2nd ans I think the ans would be the one with min SD. low SD means that the values are more closely packed towards the mean value, rather than scattered away from the mean , in which case the SD would increase.
  13. yep, that was the trick I was looking for and could not figure out[bomb]
  14. this is a question from an old GRE paper: The odds that a certain event will occur is the ratio of the probability that the event will occur to the probability that the event will not occur. if the odds that Pat will win a prize are 4 to 3, what is the probability that Pat will not win the prize? Ans) 1/4, 1/3, 3/7, 4/7, 3/4 Again I am confused as to whether the ans is as simple as 3/4 or not??? please clarify.
  15. hey guys, thanks for the reply kfree & chinni6m. and rumen that was exactly the posting I had been searching for the last two days.thanks.
  16. Hello friends, Sorry I dont rememeber the exact question and also the answer, but how do you solve questions like this: (10^10)^10^10. i saw a posting of a question like this one but cant find it now. please help
  17. well Laura , i have no idea as to what score or to what extent does a GRE score will help in improving yr chances of getting aid. I a retaking the test just to improve my odds of getting addmission and getting an aid.
  18. well laura, checked up the q paper and its from one of the old GRE paper. yes probably we r the last ones to take the tests. but I dont think we r late. most of the colleges have late dec or mid jan as their deadlines. I am taking my test on 7th nov. this will be my second test. I took my 1st test on 4th this month only. but did not get satisfactory quant score.
  19. Hello Kfree, Congrats for your great performance and thanks for the detailed insight abt the paper for benefit of all of us. All the best for yr application process and future endevours.
  20. Hello laura, i dont know the source of the question. I have got some papers containing some maths ques. from my friend(no ans keys but). so I just dont know either the origin or the ans. sorry abt it. if we are considering the x-section to be semi-circle in Q-2, then the ans will be 5000.
  21. 1) The numbers in a table are arranged in 10 rows and 4 columns such that one number is placed at the intersection of each row and column. How many numbers are contained in the table?? ans) 14, 40, 400, 10^4, 4^10 is the answer as simple as 40, or is there a twist in the question which I am not able to see???? ----------------------------------------------------------------- 2) if 2.5pi X 10^5 cubic feet of earth are to be removed in constructing a tunnel in the shape of a right circular cylinder 20 feet in diameter, what will be the length in feet of the tunnel??? Ans) 25000, 125000, 5000, 2500, 1250 should one consider x-section of the tunnel in form of a full cirlcle or a semi-circle???
  22. Hi guys, thanks for all the methods to solve the question. sorry for taking time in giving the ans. Ans is indeed :4 as you all figured it out. thanks.
  23. Sixty-eight people are sitting in 20 cars and each car contains at most 4 people. What is the maximum possible number of cars that could contain exactly 1 of the 68 people? (A) 2 (B) 3 © 4 (D) 8 (E) 12
  24. well Kfree, 1 is the least value to satisfy the eq., but as per the ques it is not to be included. the other posible values will be 11&13 or their multiples.
