Hi akhan There is no fixed length in TOEFL essay but genreally it is good to write between 350-450 words. Lesser than this would be too short and you would leave out some important points. More than this increases the probability of spelling or gramatical errors!

Hello After 3 and a half months of anticipation, desperation and waiting, I have finally recieved my TOEFL result.... Final score: 290 essay 6.0 :D

Hi Dori I think Reading is rather easy as compared to Listening. The major difficulty you will find is when finding synonyms of words. Sometimes, the words r too alike each other and is a difficult distinction to make. Another difficulty you will find in Reading section is explaining the purpose of the text...something like What is the main topic about.... the problem is that a text has different type of closely linked topics. Apart from that, if you dont lose your concentration then all will be fine. I think I had mentioned before also, I at first read the whole text, then readsome initial questions which gave me an idea on wht is being asked and then, read again paying attention to details. If you have time (which I am sure you will), try checking the answers again although I think it will b a tough job. Hope this helps -- Moiz Manji

hi ravli, My suggestion to you would b the same... take a chill pill. you have studied enough.... try relaxing yourself by watching some 'Friends' or any other comedy serial. And seriously, your attitude counts when giving the test... if you fell confident, you will get good grades if not, you would never b able to get good grades... maybe because you r thinking that you did the previous wrongly and so, in grief of that make a silly mistake or something.... so, RELAX!!!

Hi Moiz, Thanks yaar. Don't worry. It will be alright. By the way, it takes a little while before the score card comes all the way to Pakistan, even upto 4-6 weeks. So if spending $10 is not a problem, you can call up ETS and get your scores. The number is given on the TOEFL site (toefl.org). Good luck. Where are you applying? Regards, Ali Hmmm.... 10$ should not b a major problem considering thqat I already spend 130 for the test but, at first I thought I could wait for the result... didnt want to hear the bad news too soon.... want to enjoy some time with the 'MAX 290' thingy :D. Also, I thought it would b a good test to check my patience... and so, everything went well except after 11th October when result sheet didnt come. Now, I guess i'll just wait as spending $10 now would b follish... BTW, you could even face a problem in your Windows... if thi sis so, try using it in another computer. BUT, THIS MAY ONLY B A WORST CASE SCENARIO!

Hello Natural TOEFL.org is the best site to download the software unless you have recieved the official one on the CD. Maybe you havent downloaded the file correctly. Try redownloading it and see what will happen!

Hi Do you have access to english radio... radio would also b quite helpful. If not, you may listen to some online radios... i've heard they r good... although havent listenend as yet. Anyways, watching one movie a week for 24 weeks should greatly improve your english skiils as you wud've listened to abt 100 hours of movies... but, my guess is that radio would b most effective! -- Moiz Manji

Hi philipskaren The topic would explicitly mention this fact. It would say for eg, 'write advantages and disadvantages of....... with giving your opinion'. In this case, you have to analyse both sides but weigh heavy on the side you r taking. In others, it would say 'which side do you take'. In this case, you only have to write about one side (the one you r taking) and not the other. Hope this helps -- Moiz Manji

whygh, The best way to improve your writing is to write! Might seem a duh answer but its a fact. The more you write, the more easier it will become to write in the 30 minute limit and, think of more ideas. you should start with the TOEFL essays and no time limit then after sometime, you may try to fit your essay within 30 minutes. you mau also take some ideas from the essay section over here. They were alot of help. BTW, it doesnt matter whether you could use fancy vocabulary or not, what matters is that you write properly with good English. you could post your essays over ehre and some testMagicians will tell you where you lack! -- Moiz Manji

drago_stefano, For listening, watching movies and listening to radio is the best method. Once you could easily understand movies, I think you should start watching documentaries and try watching it on boring subjects such as fish breathing etc. so that you may develop a habit of listening to these things and, could easily listen to topics in TOEFL exams. They vary alot from Antropoly to Asian Archtecture or Development of Language so, you should be careful to not lsoe your concentration while listening to conversation which r not your choice of interest. Apaprt from this, you could watch Friends series which would equipt you with some slang English and, in my case, take the tension off your head with some good laughter. Hi For books, I would suggest reading Barrons TOEFL or Cambridge book. They even have good tests. However, for listening you should try listening to TV news or watching series 'Friends'. Yo woods.... CONGRATS Listening was abit of problem for me too but luckily, I got full in it. But, you should feel lucky to get only 25 questions for listening (or was it a typo). I got full 49 questions and it took ever for me to finish and go to the next section! Anyways, I got the same score range for my TOEFL test that I gave on 11th September. yea nitesh everyone faces the same problem while getting the score... I did too so, guess its normal ;) As for the GRE, dont know much abt it but, dont worry maybe you havent been able to concentrate much due to your good score in TOEFL but eventually it would come out right I have already given my TOEFL exam on 11th September (still anxiously waiting for my result).
