  1. 14. Some people believe that university students should be required to attend classes. Others believe that going to classes should be optional for students. Which point of view do you agree with? Use specific reasons and details to explain your answer. The issue of knowing if classes should be mandatory in university can be considered in different ways. It is often believe that if students are forced to go to courses they will have a better teaching. However, it is also true that when you are a student, you are not a kid but a grown-up with full reponsability . Consequently students have to manage their time and take their own decisions, dividing their time between studies and extracurricular activities. Taking all aspects into account I strongly feel that classes should be optional. First, I am firmly conviced that when you are a student you have to be more responsible than before. I mean employers are looking for well-rounded people who can take sensible decisions. If student are not capable of managing their own time they will not be able to manage anything in a company. University and college must provide students with the backbone to take their rightful places in the adult world. Second, as far as I am concerned, it is obious that having the opportunity to follow their own schedules enables students to participate in extracurricular activities. Lots of important skills are not learned in the university. Extracurricular activities may bring you in contact with people you did not know who share your interests and curiosity. A club or group can also be a great way to meet people who are different from you. I can take myself as a good example, when I was a student I used to volunteer for a group that uses basketball as a way to bring special education kids and kids with disabilities together with regular kids. But you need time in order to participate to such activities. That is why I think that it is better to let students organize their time as they want. In the end, even if there is no black or white answer to this question, my stance on this issue is that courses would better be optional. 329 words

  7. It has recently been announced that a new high school may be built in your community. Do you support or oppose this plan? Why? Use specific reasons and details in your answer. The issue of the building of a new high school in my community may be considered in different ways. It is often believed that this kind of facilities goes hand in hand with noise and crime problems. However it is also true that this new infrastructure will widden the acces to higher education in our region. Taking all aspects into account, I strongly feel that the building of a new high school would be a good point for my community. First, I am firmly conviced that the building of this high school will improve the current standard of education in my region. I am living in a poor neighborhood, and very few teenagers have good marks . A young person's chance of going to university is still largely determined by whether or not he or she lives in a good neighborhood. For instance, teenagers from well-off backgrounds are six times more likely to go to university than those from deprived areas. This fact is a pity for our nation. I hop that this new high school will help reducing such inequalities. Second, as far as I am concerned, it is obvious that this new high school will trigger new opportunities for all of us. The school will hire people and increase the attractivity of the region. Thus the economic situation will be improved. As a result, unemployment will be reduced. That is why I think that this new infrastructure brings lot of prospects for people of my community. In the end, even if building a new high school may bring noise and confusion in my community, the benefits that it will give the people, especially the young, outweigh all disadvantages. In short, my stance on this subject is that it is worth building a new high school in my community. --> 309 words , 30 min
