  1. Hello people, I just gave my test yesterday and I need some suggestions from you. Following is my background: 1. I have a Masters in Industrial Engg from a second tier university from U.S. and I have a good GPA. My undergrad degree is in Mechanical Engg from a reputed university back in India. I have good academic scores too. 2. I have been working in U.S. for last 6 years in supply chain management and operations research related fields for a reputed consumer goods company. 3. I planning to do PhD in Industrial Engg/Operations research with application oriented or PhD in Business with logistics/distribution as main area. I am planning to apply for schools like Northwestern, OSU ( fisher business school), penn state ( smeal business School) etc My GRE scores are 710; V620; I feel math scores are definitely low:mad: So, the questions are : 1. Given my background and work experience, what are my chances to get in to good a school? 2. Do I have to retake GRE to improve my quants score? In an application how much does this GRE counts? 3.If somebody can suggest some more schools to apply for that would be great too. Thanks much and looking forward to hear from you, Kupps
  2. I took second power prep exam just a day before the exam and I got Q720, V610; Yesterday, I went to real one and I got : Q 710; V 620; After analytical writing, I got quants section. I was expecting verbal. I was nervous all along the quants and one point of time I could not even think almost sat there for 4 to 6 mins doing nothing. Thought of quitting the exam and come back for a second time. Slowly regained the composure (not fully) and almost completed 22 questions out of 28. For last 6 questions, I had 2 minutes, so I guessed and randomly picked, you know the game, right? I was frustrated at myself for doing that and the reverberations continued to the verbal section. I always liked verbal but not anymore. My third question was a RC. I could not comprehend what the heck was going. SCs, antonyms and analogies helped me a lot to keep things in rhythm. I do not bore you guys with my story. But one thing I learned is DO NOT GET NERVOUS. It is the no.1 test killer. Note: On the test day, I went to test center with my driver's license and after signing papers, they informed me that I have to get my passport. Thankfully, my house was not far away from the test center and I was able to get it within an hour. Eventful day, isn't it? Cheers and best of luck, Kupp
  3. Thanks Jakir, My bad... I forgot to multiply is by 2! since it is a permutation problem. So, the answere should be 120-48 = 72; Thanks Kupps
  4. Hi guys I need some advice... I am about to take exam in 2 more days, following is what I got ( I am listing it in a chronological order of tests I took): 1. Kaplan Test 1:- V 510; Q 720 2. Power prep 1:- V 690; Q 670; 3. Kaplan Test 2:- V 650; Q 720; 4. Kaplan Test 3:- V 560; Q 730; It seems PP was tougher than Kaplan. I am not sure how others felt. I am going to take PP2 tommorrow. I hope I can score atleast 750 in Q in PP2, so that I have some peace mind to get into real test on Saturday. What do you guys think? I am preparing as much as I can and I am nervous about my quants score. Your comments, tips, suggestions are welcome. Looking forward to hear ( or read) from you guys. Thanks Kupps
  5. Answer to the last quantitative: Similar logic as the second one: (Total no of arrangements)-(no of arrangements where ladies sit together) = (no of arrangements with ladies never sit together); Total no.of.arrangements = 5P5 = 5! = 120; no of arrangements where ladies sit together = 4P4= 24; When ladies sit together consider them as one and combine their seats into one; This would reduce total number of people from 5 to 4 ( 3 men & one combined women) and also total number of seats 5 to 4. So, 4P4 gives the ways in which ladies sit together. = 120- 24 = 96 (you can compare it with right side and come to final answer).
  6. Answer for second question:- Number of ways that can be formed that contain at least one girl = ( Total no of combinations) - ( no of combinations with no girl present) total number of people = 6 boys + 4 girls = 10; Total number of combinations = 10C5; i.e. go to select 5 people out of 10 = 10!/5!.5! = 252; No of combinations with no girl present = no of combinations with boys only; = this means selecting 5 out of 6 = 6C5 = 6!/1!.5! = 6; Therefore, Number of ways with at least one girl = 252-6 = 242 (Ans) Thanks Kupps
  7. It works great with a number substitution.. Assume no.of. ranch style homes = 100. By problem definition, townhomes = 2* no.of. ranch homes = 200. Within townhomes, there are townhomes with pool and without pool. By problem definition, no of townhomes with pool/ without pool = 3:1 Therefore, no of townhomes with pool = 3/4* 200 = 150; Probability of selecting a townhome with a pool = 150/300 = 1/2; 1/6 can not be the answer Thanks Kupps
  8. Thanks GRE_Kickboxer. I am going to do as much as I can. BTW, do you happen to know where I can get GRE bigbook paper tests, especially quant sections? Is it available in this forum. I have downloaded GRE bigbook verbal tests from this forum. I could not find quants tests though. Any help on this is much appreciated. Thanks Kupps
  9. Hi Guys, I have been browsing this website for a while. Got leads and clarifications on many threads. Now, I am in a situation where I am have to exam next weekend. I just took a power prep practice test. Following are my scores: Verbal= 690 and Quants = 670. While I am excited seeing verbal score, I am totally discouraged by my quants score. My ideal quants score would be anything greater than 750. How easy or how tough the real ones are going to be??? Is this powerprep a real indicator??? BTW, I am planning to apply for Phd program( Industrial Engg) in a good school and I have a relevant work experience of 6 years and still I am working. Somehow, I am getting nervous on seeing math problems which I should not be and making silly mistakes( at least 2 to 3 per exam). I am going to work as much as I can to get rid of silly mistakes. I would like to know from you guys on how to improve math score in next 10 days? Any help is much appreciated and all your comments are welcome. I hope I can do it better on exam day and get rid GRE as soon as I can. It is killing me. Thanks Kupps
