  1. I have never had any problems with real concepts, perhaps maybe translating complex work/time problems to algebraic expressions. The more wordy the problem, generally, the longer and harder it was for me.
  2. Yes, and how many types of problems show up 1-2x per GRE? very very few
  3. For the love all things holy and sacred you should practice percent increase. Do 50 of them. Someone at ETS has a hard on for percent increase problems. They are ubiquitous. Ok, I am done.
  4. If anyone has any questions for me, ask them quick, cuz I leaving soon!
  5. I am completely happy with my score, I am from the US so the GRE matters less for me. I took the GRE eight days ago, I was tired and didn't get much sleep. I blanked on the issue topic. My scores were 610Q and 630V, but I had a gut feeling my ability was higher. I felt tired and run down during that morning. I ran out of time on both sections around question 20, then guessed from there on out. I recieve a score of 1240, but I BELIEVED my ability was over 1350. And I was right. Today I took several caffeine pills, pseudoephedrine and drank 3 red bulls (a drink with a lot of taurine). Speed matters more than anything. Stimulants increase reading speed and math speed. Also they help hold your attention to boring *** literature analysis passages. I also ate some candy. BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT EAT JUST ANY CANDY. YOU MUST CONSUME DEXTROSE (aka, glucose). You can find this in Smarties® brand candry. The candy makes you smarter becuase glucose is literaly brain fuel (hence the name). Most candy uses fructose, becuase it is sweeter, but smarties® still uses glucose. It is less sweet but it gives you more of a brain boost becuase fructose must be modified before utilization by the brain (slower metabolism too). I dosed caffeine / dextrose / pseudoephedrine / taurine at about 2 hrs before exam time, then right before the AWA and during the 10m break. Also, I was chewing gum. There are several studies which show that chewing gum increases IQ, and the studies are valid and have a valid biochemical basis (chewing stimulates insulin, which shuttles that glucose you just ate right into your brain). What did my new brain chemistry do? On a few questions where I couldnt find the short-cut, I just guessed and moved on, but other than that I did nothing different. I was about to get to question 27-28 before time was up. I suggest if your score is low due to time, experiment with stimulants and see how your speed changes. Or you could just learn the short-cuts and tricks...but hey, that takes effort. My prep: visiting this site for a few minutes every other day (10 hours over about a month), browsing vocab (10 hours total) and doing Kaplan's practice math problems (10 hrs). Kaplan does a good job of knowing the 'types'. Powerprep scores for me were not consistent. Total prep time, probably about 40-50 hours. I recieved one "fill-in" question at the end of my experimental quantitative section, so YES, once you see that questions (for now) you know you've just done your experimental section. For this reason, this month, the experimental section must come first OR you would know that your 3rd and final section was experimental. But don't count on that, just keep it in mind, so don't freak out about your first section. Lessons: 1. Use stimulants for focus and speed, use gum to shuttle dextrose to your brain. Try this if you run out of time in your practice CATs. 2. Know thyself. If you think you can achieve Q800, then don't quit until you recieve that score. 3. The verbal section is all about tricks, just like quant. I have a terrible time with words, but I learned the tricks from this board and Kaplan's review book. There is so much luck involved in verbal ... it astounds me. I just so happened to keep getting words that I studied, and I only studied about 300!
  6. I am not looking forward to that either
  7. I lost the question.....sorry folks, maybe I will find the oa in a few days I hate these Q's .... odds are you won't see a lot like this
  8. Thanks. I guess you need to know the '68/95/99.5 rule' ....
  9. ^ Good, thanks. Any more, anyone?
  10. My apologies for that poor grammar ^^
  11. Do we really have to measure the shape of the gauss curve or some crap like that?
  12. Could someone verify these and post any rule they know (or a source) about odds and evens? ODD * ODD = ODD EVEN * EVEN = EVEN EVEN * ODD = EVEN EVEN + ODD = ODD ODD + ODD = EVEN EVEN + EVEN = EVEN
  13. So how do you solve this one? Thanks http://www.www.urch.com/forums/attachments/gre-math/5119d1194221306-normal-distribution-q-propb.bmp
  14. relax. I made a new problem to illustate the point that variables have relationships even if their are not defined as numbers.
  15. Did your GRE have the new question types? Where were they and what kind?
  16. So has anyone seen these new questions? Are they only in the experimental section?
  17. col a = x col b = y Given: X > Y What is the answer? Must it be D becuase no values are given?
  18. (% strength )(volume) + (% strength )(volume) / total volume = (final % strength)
  19. major grammar problems major diction problems major major major major problems
  20. ^^^ I agree with that a lot. Your RAM model is quite apt. It is essential and can be expanded with practice. I think thats what I need to do.
  21. Yes, I agree. So how do I simply increase arithmatic speed? I am getting better at simplifying problems, but multiplication, division and addition still seem to take too much time.
