  1. Apply for some schools in top 40, top 50 and even i as you can easily get good scholarship there, and also TAs and RAs. Getting scholarships in good universities is tough as they get LOTS of great people like you!! :) Moreover, If you want to apply for PhD, then safe schools are a MUST. As competition for PhD's is very tough, and all applicants are GREAT!! I know a guy who had around 3-4 nice papers in EE all published in International conference, applied for PhD in good universities only with nice GRE and GPA, and was rejected by ALL!! Poor guy!!
  2. When your university isn't well known then Sub-GRE score shows who you are. Good score in it can get you anywhere!! They see universities reputation for obvious reason. They know that some college which is ranked in top 10 in some country, will definately will be getting good students compared to other colleges, and a guy there with some say X aggregate will be better than guy with same aggregate in some unknown college in the same country. But if you give sub-gre and get good score in it, then that shows how much you can compete in global scale..and if you get good score than you are as good as others as sub-gre tests your knowledge in a specific area though not in depth, but it still is better indicator of what a person knows rather than just elementary school maths , english and stuff!!
  3. It doesn't matter how good or bad it is. If your IN some situation then you are totally IN IT. Think about how to get out of it. This is more important now. Rest like everyone says is HISTORY. So, just work hark hard and try your best. :) REMEMBER, you STILL have 40 years of work to do. And that's a LONG LONG time. You'll definately get what you want dear. And ya one fact, ALBERT EINSTEIN didn failed even ETH ZURICH enterance test once . Damn he was dumb!! :p
  4. I appeared in an exam in the seventh sem, but I've got an A ( Absent ) in it. I don't know how it happened. Must have been some error on the part of administration. I'll pass out in 10 days from now. I wanted to apply for fall,09. But NOW I'll have to give this backlog in November, and I'll get the result for the same in MAY, 09. What are my options now?? I can't apply for MS with my backlogs pending can I?? OR should I clear it and apply for spring 2010!! I'll have a gap of about a year in between, whole of 2009. Should I take up a job in that?? Should I take up internships OR some other course like some diploma or something??
  5. By GUIDE I meant not that GUIDE, I meant a guide to how to prepare for AGRE!! That should include books that he referred to, time he gave to it and stuff!!
  6. Wow great score. Congrats!! Can you please write a "Guide to agre?" . It'll just take an hour. All of us really appreciate it.
  7. Specialization?? Go and search on google, get list of top universities in your field. Go through the list of all of them, see how much they cost?? Whether you can afford them or not?? You like the research there or not etc. Also projects play a major role in getting admit, so your sop too. You can get into top 20 to top 80 on the basis of these factors. :) Top 10 yup you can get there too but it just depends on your profile. So, short list your universities and post them here..otherwise you have chances in 70 universities if you ask me.. AND your GRE score rocks!!
  8. Frankly you'll get bored within a month..so, I'll advise you to take a break after you apply. Bcoz. once you have applied then whether you work or not till you get into some grad school, it won't matter then. And that will be like a break of 5-6 months. You can do anything in that time... Ya, one more thing..do call us people for those booz parties too!! yay!!
  9. You can do your MS 100 times as far as I know.
  10. Best way -> PRACTICE!! Solve as many different type of questions you can. Practice regularly. This is the only way to get good score in maths. Maths is more of a skill ( Quant skill , that's they call it that ) Takes time to develop. Not something like history that you can mug up and you'll score good. So, just practice, practice and practice even more. :grad:
  11. Ya, you are a girl right?? Universities have to maintain sex-ratios. So, it's EASIER compared to men for them to get into. :) GET NOVA if you haven't bought it yet. It has LOTZ of questions for quant and is considered to be the best for that section. Has all the explainations for answers too. So, practice from that. Best of luck.
  12. I think it'll be low as competition is tough and having a negative point can hurt chances to get into a good school. Your GPA isn't very great too. Generally till top 30 avg. of it is around 3.5. Also from which college you are, it's ranking that ALSO MATTERS. 3.1 GPA from MIT is better than 3.5-3.7 GPA from UT dallas. As MIT is MIT and dallas is dallas. Also projects matter a lot and interns too. So, it depends overall. 450 in verbal isn't bad. If possible try for it again and get 750+ in quant. Also you'll need 400+ in verbal which you already have. In total if you have >1200 you'll clear GRE cutoffs of all universities. That's all is reqd. They generally don't care if international students don't get high scores in verbal. But 400+ is min. I would recommend 500+. Only way to NOT to panic is just practice. And you are nice in verbal dear...450 isn't that bad. Just little bit more if possible. And maths is easy..key to get high scores is stay CALM. Try to get as many question correct in first 15 questions. If you get first 15 correct and even screw up 4-5 questions in the last 15, stll you'll get 790 or 800.
  13. Dear, Admits depends on your profile. Required scores are dependent on rest of the profile too. You say your acads are low. How low?? Some ppl. consider 2 gpa as LOW. some 3.4 as LOW!! How low?? Project they matter more than GPA and GRE. Good research projects can get you everywhere. Quality publcations can get you everywhere too!! So, it depends on overall profile. I'll advise you to post your profile, so that we can give you SPECIFIC advise which will help you make your profile better rather than those general philosopher stuff which won't help you at all ( General stuff doesn't help ANYONE, it's a FACT ).
  14. In my college highest cut-off in any company even like microsoft was around 70 only. Even google's was near it. 79 par to IBM researchlab, CERN OR NASA aa jaayegi. :p
  15. You need programming skills to cope with that. Coding won't do.
  16. Retake GRE if possible, get 20 in speaking as it MIGHT hurt you chances. But THIS depends from university to university. e.g. George Mason wants everyonw with 20+ in all sections OR they reject you until and unless you have great acads., projects etc. Admission depends on your OVERALL profile. I don't have any idea how these universities stand in the rankings in your field. But in computers its easy to get into them.
  17. Try to get atleast 1200 in GRE with 750+ in quant and 400+ in verbal with 3.5+ AWA. Also try to get atleast 20+ in all sections in TOEFL. Anything below than that, then you won't have to shortlist universities for yourself. They wil automatically get shortlisted anywayz :).
  18. michigan...high ranked -> 15 Ohio is far back in ranking riverside is 70. Michigan obviously!!
  19. It's easy to get into JHU. Selectivity is there when you get large no. of over-qualified students to select from. They don't. For a top 30 progamme, 55k$ a year is just too much. You can get into so many colleges which are ranked from 30-40, can save you 15k$ to 25k$. You'll get the smae job, same company from there too that too with same salary, for less money. That's the only thing that matters, IF it does to you. I've seen loads of admits to JHU. Even a guy with 62% with just avg. project with avg. GRE got there. Saw it on some other site than edulix. There are many of them. If you have money still it's not worth it. Even after doing MS from RIT, you can get 61-75 which is quite good. People from USC and nearby college get 78k from microsoft. Range there too is just the same. :)
  20. :) It's because they really googled hard to find more about Gatech!! :p
  21. Guyz, ranking does matter. Most ppl. apply to universities acc. to ranks. Even if someone has good acads they usually don't go above georgia. Only ppl. with good projects, publications they think of app to top 10. All apply to 10 univs. Ppl. who apply to top 10 their list usually ends at top 30, whereas for ppl. like me it'll start at top 30 if I get bad GRE scores. :) May be I'll apply to purdue too.
