  1. Thanks so much for your help, but the funny thing is, when I just logged on and about to read your reply, the mail arrived seconds later.. lol And yeah now I asked to the college, the said I'd have to sent all my application to UAPC, by the way, do you know how money order works? I have no idea about it..
  2. Oh, but it has been more than a month, sinec I got the score, but I never got the paper score sinec then, I checked on the ETS site about my address, and there's no error, I don't know what could be wrong with it. If in that case, how can I ask to the ETS's people for that??
  3. When I signed up for the test, I already filled the 4 recipients that they offered for free. and now I got the score.. not the paper one yet, but I dont know how long that'd take, its has been more than 2 weeks. almost 2 months since I took the test, already a month since I got the score online, and I also asked to the college that I put on the recipient list.. Still got to wait to the answer because its easters you know. And all they do is ask me for the appication fee... and then they'd let me know, but the question is, how am I suppose to know if they already got my TOEFL score, I mean, I don't wanna pay 17 bucks more just because the system didn't work out as it supposed to..
  4. Ah, everyone get over 100 but me :(
  5. Hello, I took the exam at the february 1st, and got my score at 22nd i guess, but i remembre they said they'd be sending the score on paper by post service, but still no sign, also about the recipient, remember when you apply for the test, it offers you four recipient free that you can send them your score, but i don't know how it works either, does anybody what should I do? I mean I'm already going to apply for the college, now i have my high school diplom, but don't know what to do with the recipient, the college that I'm applying to is in the recipient list, but I don't know what to do next. Please help!!
  6. I got mine! not very good actually but my college ask for 45, so what do you guys think? do I have chance?? Reading 19 (I screwed it up because the timing and subjects..) Listening 23 (also timing problem..) Speaking 17 (no comment.. i was so nervous..) Writing 18 (I had problem with time too.. missed out a point.) So what do you guys think, if i can give a shot with this score, i mean trying to apply to the college which requires 45, will I get accepted??
  7. Well you know what happened to me.. In one of the passages, I tried to look at the question first then find the answer in the text, because I had no much time left... and I don't think i did that well because some of those questions were about details and reference.. so you'd have to read the text, and know what exactly is it about... overall, the concentration is the key.. that was what happened to me I couldnt concentrate myself and i think i did very poor.. However, you can read, quicky, to have a basic idea about the passage, then answer the questions, remember the timing is very important.. some of those questions took me like 2 minutes because I had to read again to find the answer and lack of concentration totally knocked me down..
  8. Lol, no worries, I thought so. That's just awesome! 116?!! You said you were not prepared? Wow, I took a month preparing and I'm not sure if I'll even get half of your score :( How'd you do it? Can you share more about what happened when you were taking the test?

    toefl questions

Well I can share you my experience, I took a month preparing for the test, and seems my method did help but not much when I was dealing with the real one, you should get the materials that teach you, and always, get yourself used to the time limit, which took me down, because during my preparation I've been always messing around and took all my time with no time limit, and when the real test came up on me, I couldnt even finish the reading section about time, the last question i missed one point.. :( anyway.. is always about concentration.. when you go to the test center, probably yours is gonna be different, but mine wasnt really private, people around taking the test, and sometimes you can get distracted if you hear they speaking for the answer, but perhaps you could take examples from them.. lol but i don't think you should do.. However you should focus and improve your weakest spot, like i was pretty bad at speaking but i didnt do much about it so i did very bad at speaking section.. just good luck.
  11. 126 out of 130?? I thought iBT only reaches 120 :S What kind of test did you do?
  12. I'm pretty much losing my mind to right now.. plus first at all, I'll have to get up early tomorrow, then take a long trip to the centertown, also I have the same kind of problem that you have.. But I will try to calm myself down.. mostly like free my mind and just let's do it! :P
  13. 8th attempt? wow you're scaring me right now.. Because I'm gonna take the test tomorrow morning and speaking is one of my weakest section.. :(
  14. Hello folks I'm going to take the test on February 1st too!! Yeah it says within 2 weeks. So you'd get your score by then, but you can already send your application before that, then once you get your score, you have the free recipient that you set when you registered for TOEFL, so they'd send the score to the college you are applying to, so if your application request letter arrive first, before your score, then you can make the point out on the letter telling them your score will be arriving soon. I hope that will work. Good luck folks, although I still need to improve my speaking!! Oh no!!
  15. So I always have this huge doubt in my head, the college that I'm going to apply, requires 45 in iBT, I know that's not much and is easy to get. But, I know I am not gonna just get a score like that or even a little higher like 50, 60 or 70, so I was thinking, what score, would make it sure, more acceptable my application. Such as 100 or is 90 and 80 enough to be accepted? I am worried because it's my first time and I know I'm not gonna get a very high score, so I want to make sure to be accepted if i get a 80 or 90.. Thanks!! Oh by the way the college is Borough community college in Manhattan... so you can have a reference..
  16. Wait, you did one day preparation and you got that score?! That's just simply brilliant!! Unbelievable, there must be some trick you used.. lol. Why don't you share us more about it huh? Anyway congratulations!
  17. Hope you guys can find it useful, just remember, the trick for the quick response is as soon as you get the question, always before the preparation time, start to write down the main points in order that you're gonna respond, so you'd find it lot easier to organize your speech and don't have to stuck on thinking of it. Also remember, if on the independent task there's nothing you really could think of to respond, quickly make a thing up! For example: Which historical event that has had an influence on you, give details and explain why. In this case, not everbody has had influenced by a historical event, so once you hear the question, you realize you don't have a real answer, then use one history that you know of better and invent a story on you.
  18. I have written down, these tips, provided originally from OnlineEnglish.net, I just summerize what the tutor gave in just one single text. So it can be easier for you to know the tips, I just wrote them down by the moment, so maybe some part would not seems useful or not clear enough for you, in response of that, you can always give me a feedback or improvement. I would appreciate that a lot! So here it goes: Independent task: 15 seconds to prepare. 45 seconds to answer. Personal experience, personal feelings. Also called open choice question. Describe give detail to something, and supporting reasons. Before the preparation starts, think quickly about a main idea. During the preparation, use the 15 to take note, the 3 main structure, write down 1, 2 and 3 with keywords. 1 intro, 2 describe, 3 reasons. Example: A place you like to go and why is important for you. Answer: 1) 5 seconds to say where is. Quick topic answer. (The place I like to go is *Answer*) 2) 15 to 20 seconds to describe where is the place and some information about it. ( *Answer* is a place where *information* or *where is* vice versa) 3) 20 seconds or more depending the time left, to giving reason and supporting reason a real life. Because, why is important, details of reasons. (Is important for me because *something* that means a lot for me, or because I like *details*) - Reasons. Independent choice task: As soon as you hear, read the question, choose quickly one answer, during the preparation time. Before the preparation time, quickly write the chosen answer, the 3 points. Give general idea with a keyword, and other reasons. Follow the order. 1) 5 seconds to say which you choose, nice and clearly and fast. (Don't say both, nor change mind after, choose the one is easier, lie if is necessary.) 2) 20 seconds: Why I prefer, general reason, because of, explanation. 3) 20 seconds: support reason give examples details, 2 main reasons. Give strong reason first. Compare to other preference, why what I chose is better than the other one. If there's more time add another reason. ----------------------------------------------- Integrated tasks: Reading and listening. Preparation: 30 seconds Response: 60 seconds Campus task Reading a notice, and listen to a conversation between students. State their opinion about the situation, give details, feedbacks and support to that opinion. 45 seconds to read the notice. Take notes about it. Listening, take notes. Don't give your own opinion. During the preparation time, write down the 4 parts, main subject of the notice, the student's opinion, reasons 1 and 2, in this term of short time, write keywords in order of the appearance in the listening passage. 1) Summarize notice, about 15 seconds. 2) Person's opinion, about 5 seconds. 3) Reason 1 with details, about 20 seconds. 3) Reason 2 with details, about 20 seconds. - Example: Library renovation for the university. Summarize - The library is gonna renovated, and the schedule will be inconvenient to students to access to it during the renovation. In the conversation, a student is not happy about the news about it, she gives two reasons (take note when you listen to it), her problem were: there will be hard to use library at afternoon due to her work, loses morning time for study; the renovation takes longer than they need, they need to do projects assignments, and there'll be an exam that's gonna be before the renovation finishes. 1) In the notices announces the renovation of the university's library, and it will be under maintenance for certain time, students wouldn't be able to access to it. (15 seconds) 2) The students thinks is a bad news, is not good for any of the students. (5 seconds) 3) Because they have assignments, projects, researches, even there'll be an upcoming exam, they won't be able to access to it at the time the needs. (20 seconds) 4) Also the library will be opened only on the afternoon, but she works at afternoon and won't have time to use the library, the situation turns to be co(d for the student. (20 seconds) Academic task Read a short passage, take some note about it, then listen to a passage, which will be related to the text, sometimes there's exception, usually the listening explains to you about the reading passage. Take notes of the keywords and main idea. Summarize the both of the topic, realize what's the the relation between both. Preparation: Before the preparation time starts, write down what's the relationship between both passages. Reading passage generally gives you a theory, draw line in the middle of the paper, on the left note the main idea of reading passage, on the right the information about listening, relate both informations. Read | listen theory | examples or | or other stories history | Response: 1) Summarize topic and relationship between reading & listening (about 10 seconds) 2) Explain the main points in the listening and relate each to info in the reading passage. (about 50 seconds) ---------------------------------------------------------- Integrated Task: Listening. Preparation time: 20 seconds. Response time: 60 seconds. Campus task You will hear a conversation between students or student to professor, describe the person's problem. Then state which of the solutions you prefer and explain why. Tips: While you're listening to the conversation, write down the problem, possible solutions, pick one and give explanations including details to support it. Dedicate the 20 seconds to state and develop your own opinion. For the response: 1) Summarize the person's problem (use about 15 seconds) 2) State the solutions (use about 10 to 15 seconds) 3) Say which solution YOU prefer and why (use about 30-35 seconds) Academic task You'll listen to an academic lecture, usually is a long material, follow it and take notes while listening. Note the basic ideas, and details. Tips for preparation time: Think about the question. Organize the notes that you have taken from the lecture. Relate quickly your note with the given information. Tips for response: Do not just say EVERYTHING what you heard from the lecture, that way you'd be wasting time, try to relate the informations with details, explain it with your own words. 1)Introduce the general topic, say what it is about. (about 10 seconds) 2)Explain the main points (2 or 3) from the lecture and support each with some details (50 seconds)
  19. Your score is very great, what score do you need for speaking? What are you applying to??
  20. I'm taking on February 1.. 5 days after that.. what can we discuss?
  21. I meant, I was wondering, if the real iBT testing system, ever had a system glitch, that caused some defect to people's score, for example, I had already experienced that with one of the materials I was using for the practice, and it made me lose a point in result. So I was just wondering that if could ever happen in the real iBT testing system.
  22. Hey, that website is very interesting and useful, also entertaining, I learned something new from there too. Awesome! Thanks.
  23. I think, if after the test, you think you might not do as well as the first one, you're able to cancel your score for that time. Obviously, if you're doing for the second time, you'd be more prepared and more experienced than the first time. I'm not quite sure if the University would adopt your best score from the two.. But I suggest you do go more prepared this time.
  24. Did anyone of you, who have already take the iBT, had experienced a system glitch that affected you on your score?? I'm asking this because, I found some in the Longman building skill material.. there was one question that I did it right, but in the result section, it shows that my answer that I chose, was the right one, but it says I got it incorrect, then I click on Explain, then it shows that my answer was another one that's incorrect, it got me on nerve because I clicked on the right answer but it gives me as incorrect.. Then in other materials, I think it was Universal TOEFL, also had technical glitch that the questions were all the same, in the listening section, for example, the first 4 questions had no problem, the starting the fifth, it started to show the same question over and over again, but at same time, the number of the questions kept going. So I thought, if that, ever happen in the real iBT, what would be the solution? Or that's literally impossible because no one untill now had ever encountered that.
  25. I already have Official Guide for IBT KAPLAN TOEFL iBT 07-08 LONGMAN PREPARATION COUSE FOR THE TOEFL TEST BARRON Pass Key to the TOEFL iBT internet Based Test with 2 Audio CDs NorthStar Building Skills for the TOEFL iBT and 10 key academic skills for TOEFL IBT success (PDF) But as far as I know, Longman is a little bit better than other materials, is easy to use and it's complete, comes with building skills, I learned a lot with it, but still, as someone told me before, the speaking in this material is not that good:doh:. However thank you for offering those materials, they are very useful.
