  1. Yes, sort of. Wound up accepting an offer I had in hand from Mississippi State. Not as prestigious a program as some, but a good fit for me with my background and research interests. Just very relieved to be moving forward now.
  2. Contrats minirex and consci! Bloody awesome QuantanamoBay .
  3. Since the 15th has come and gone, I figured I'd start a thread for folks to post where they finally decided to go. I know there are some wait listed folks still holding out, but those decisions will likely be made in the next couple of weeks or so. So, let the cat out of the bag - which offer did you finally accept? And, let me be the first to say Congratulations to all our future Marketing PhDs!
  4. It has been said many times on this forum to go with the program that best fits your research interests and where you believe you will have the best working relationships with the faculty. I would say top 10 or top 25 you can be pretty certain that you'll wind up with a pretty awesome job when you're done. However, if you go with 'A' and never really click with the faculty your productivity will probably show and your placement might be worse than if you went with 'B' where there was a better fit. In the end, I think has to come down to where do YOU think you're going to be the most productive and get the most out of the degree. Wherever you go, you're committed to that program for the next 4-5 years. Make sure its one where you're not going to be sorry the choice was based on some logical analysis of the future value of a degree from school 'A' versus school 'B'. EDIT: By the way, CONGRATS on both of your admits. That is awesome!
  5. This must be the calm before the storm. Very little activity here or on TGC. April 15th arrives in one week, so how many out there are holding their breath, hoping to make it off a waitlist somewhere? Who among your have offers in hand, but are holding out until the last minute to decide?[clap] Who desperately needs an admit?:yuck: Who is getting filthy drunk on Saturday the 16th?
  6. Thanks my friend! Hopefully even better news is yet to come. I agree that holding on to more than one offer is an annoyance. While many will be elated to have just one, those holding on to two or three, especially when they know which ones they will decline, really make this a rough ride for the wait listed folks like myself. That being said, I will say that I've been encouraged by the adcoms at the schools I'm wait listed at to hold off on a decision of any offers I may already have until April 15th (I assume because they don't want to lose a potential applicant in case their offers made are declined). So I guess the hold ups can work on both sides. But, like you said before, in another week this will all be in the bag one way or the other. There will be definite boozin' on April 16th regardless.
  7. Sage advice, phdhope. Just what I needed to hear to get the two year old kid in me to stop throwing a temper tantrum! "Sit down and shut up". Btw, heard back from one of them yesterday after I stopped freaking out about it! I'm at the top of their waitlist and they don't expect either of the offers they've made to be accepted.
  8. Had an interview last week, which was more of a recruiting call that an interview. I was told that she would get back to me by Thursday of that week -- Friday at the latest. Guess what? NO CALL, EMAIL or OTHERWISE. Also had an informal interview a couple of weeks ago and was told "I'll get back with you sometime next week," but no follow up. I sent a polite "Thank you" email about an hour after the interview in which I expressed my excitement for their program. I also left a voice mail follow up one week later. STILL NO CONTACT FROM THEM. Is it cool for me to call both adcoms back to say "What's up?" or should I just sit by the phone?
  9. Curious if anyone has information on UNC Chapel Hill - marketing... I've emailed the PhD coordinator regarding my app, but haven't received any reply. At this point I assume I am either rejected or way down on some unofficial waitlist. Online status still says "Your decision is not yet available," which it has said since late December. Has anyone heard of Interviews/Admits/Rejects from them yet? There isn't anything posted on TGC for this season. Thanks!
  10. Texas A&M, UT Austin, UNC Chapel Hill, Missouri, Arizona
  11. Institution: University of Colorado (Leeds) Program: Marketing (CB) Decision: Reject Funding: -$65 (or whatever the app fee was) Notification date: 3/11/11 Notified through: Email Posted on Grad Cafe: Yes Comments: This was expected. Not going to lose any sleep.
  12. I'm 2 for 10 on the rejects. I have one interview with a school that ranks 250th or something (ugh). I have 7 that I have no idea about. Of the 7, I THINK there is the possibility of 1 or 2 admits. Breath Deeeeeep....
  13. I will echo Apple and Orange's comment. I am still awaiting word, ANY word, from 8 programs. I've discussed this with may of my profs and colleagues and the response is the same. It changes from year to year. Are they looking for CB or Quant? What is the applicant pool? Maybe this year they received 100 applications, all with GMATs over 690. While your GMAT of 680 in any other year probably would have kept you in consideration, this year the field was much more competitive. Some years they pool is pretty shallow. You just NEVER know. What works one year is completely moot the next. Hang in there and know you are not alone! HOpefully the next few weeks will bring positive news for us both!
  14. I'll chime in since I'm older than any of you and applying this year as well (44). I have 20 years of industry experience in Marketing plus 4-1/2 years as a full-time clinical prof at a Big 12 university. My GMAT was probably near the bottom of what would be considered "acceptable" at most programs. I have done some academic research and presented a study on multi-cultural marketing at a national conference where it was awarded top paper. Two of my LORs were written by endowed research chairs in entrepreneurship and integrated marketing respectively. Both are well know nationally in their fields. I agree 100% that my age is a BIG factor working against me. GMAT is too, but probably less so. The biggest challenge is the applicant pool. As nosaed said, a younger candidate with less work experience but who is equal everywhere else wins every time. So, here I sit waiting it out like everyone else, knowing that I am nowhere near as "shiny" as many of you younger guys and gals. Hopefully my SOP, my career, teaching and limited research experience and my LORs will be enough to make a difference. If not, its on to plan 'B', but I'm not sure yet what that is. Good luck to all.
  15. To all the creepers and lurkers who applied to marketing phd programs. Wondering if y'all have heard much from any of your programs yet. Seems like there is a lot of activity going on, but i've not seen ANY activity for 6 of the 8 programs I applied to. Most of those had early deadlines too. I know a lot of programs have already started interviewing their top picks, so I'm a little nervous about what's going on at these schools that don't appear to be doing anything. Just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat. My fear is that I'm going to be sitting around until the end of March wondering only to receive 8 rejection notices in the same week.
  16. Institution: University of Kansas Program: Marketing (CB) Decision: Rejected Funding: NA Notification date: Feb. 15th-ish Notified through: Email Posted on Grad Cafe: Yes Comments: Not devastated, but it was lower on my list of schools, so it makes me a little nervous. This was 1 of 8. Haven't hear squat from anyone else.
  17. Depends on the answer. Might want to shoot first, ask questions later. Ok, ok, lame, but I just couldn't resist.
  18. Just got reject email from KU. Was lower on my list, which makes me nervous. :(
  19. Thanks for the words of encouragement. As much as I tell myself to chill, it's still hard to not feel sometimes like you're gonna be the last kid picked for kickball. Shhh, those joyous childhood memories returning to torture us in middle age! LOL
  20. I received my first Masters in Mass Communications, which dealt a lot more with media research, advertising effects etc. Did a great thesis research study that was presented at a national conference. I too wanted to continue by getting a PhD in Marketing, yet my undergrad and masters were not in the business discipline, so I went with the MBA. Hopefully the combination of the two masters, my career experience (20 years) and successful research will pay dividends, but that is yet to be seen.
  21. Just curious, but are there still a lot of us out there that haven't heard ANYTHING from ANY of the programs we applied to? I'm starting to wonder if I got lost in the mail! LOL
  22. Anyone heard from any of the Texas schools yet (besides Rice)?
  23. Just a question... obviously the paranoia is kicking in... If you are not included in a first round of interviews, but also are not rejected or accepted outright, is it safe to assume you are a 2nd or 3rd tier candidate and the adcoms are waiting to see who accepts or rejects offers?
