    Help Needed???

Don't schedule your test until you've started studying so that you can get a good idea of how much time you'll need to study. Figure 2-3 months. Start with Cracking the GRE and Powerprep. Get Word Smart for the GRE for vocab. After you've gone through those materials, you'll know if you need to buy more. Those were the only ones I bothered with!
  2. Have you checked Amazon? They should have some prep books for the math subject test.

    GRE daily thread

While I think it's a noble idea to keep each other motivated, if you're on here every day posting this stuff and reading what others are posting, it's going to take away from valuable prep time and just distract you.
  4. Get Cracking the GRE, with the DVD so you get the practice tests, and Word Smart for the GRE, which has a much smaller vocab list (although the Cracking list does have a good hit list of vocab). And get the free Powerprep tests from the official site, GRE: Graduate Record Examinations Information. If you have time to pick up the official guide for practice questions, that would be a good idea.

    Nova Press!!

    Cracking the GRE is better.
  6. In addition to the free tests that obfuscate mentioned, you can get four more tests in the Princeton Review book (Cracking the GRE). Get the one with the DVD to get the tests. I have the 2007 version and the DVD is great, has lessons on it. The 2008 one is only around $22 on Amazon. I preferred PR over Kaplan, but it probably won't hurt to do both.
  7. A verbal score in the 300s will not only hurt your chances for admission, it will make it extremely hard to get a visa to study in the U.S. Work hard to get your verbal score up. Get an English tutor if needed, or take a GRE prep class like Princeton Review.

    Inquiry on OG 11

No, they each have unique questions. Definitely worth getting all three.
  9. Which ones have you already found? Of course there are the free official tests on http://www.mba.com (2 tests) and there's one free one from Princeton Review also: Online GMAT Course Demo | The Princeton Review I'm not familiar with other online ones.

    GRE vs GMAT

GMAT quant seems harder, esp with data sufficiency and permutations/combinations. GRE geometry is not my favorite either, though. GMAT verbal is easier, not so vocab focused. So it depends on your strengths. However, you can definitely learn how to take either test, GRE probably being the easier one to master. Learn GRE-taking techniques and bone up on your fundamentals and you'll see good improvements. Your SAT score definitely won't dictate what you can hope to achieve on the GRE. For prep, download the free Powerprep tests from GRE: Graduate Record Examinations Information. Also get Cracking the GRE. It's a review book from Princeton Review and it has very good tips, a great vocab hit list, and practice CATs. The CATs have answer explanations, very helpful. If you need extra vocab prep, I would recommend Word Smart for the GRE. I personally am not a fan of Barron's 3,500+ word list because only a tiny amount of those words show up on the real test, so it's not time well spent unless you really need to improve your vocab over all. You won't have much use for words like "obfuscate" unless you use them in your forum ID. ;-)
  11. Losing focus on those reading passages...HATE those!
  12. Thanks to everyone for their great answers!
  13. There's another free test on Princeton Review's site: GRE Online Demo | The Princeton Review That one is adaptive like Powerprep and the real test.
  14. Two months should be enough time, if you stay on top of your study schedule. Work backward from your test date and figure out how much time you'll need to spend each week. Maybe 1-3 hours of practice a night, with a full test each weekend. Do you mean taking a course? Might be a good idea if you're feeling stuck. Most of them last two months, though, so you might not have quite enough time.
  15. Yes, the Princeton Review tests are very good. IMHO they are most like the real thing other than Powerprep, definitely do them. Since there's only one on the site, you'll need to get the book that has more, Cracking the GRE. Get the one with the DVD to get the tests (the DVD is cool and has some lectures and other stuff on it.) As far as I know there are only two Powerprep tests. :-(
