  1. Thank you again. Just to add comments on the SCs, most of all I had were entirely underlined or 4/5th of it was. I had no easy questions like on basic idioms (Not only But also, as much as , etc.) I found the 800kaplan book excellent prep for this kind of SCs with a big portion underlined. The tricks in this type of questions are very much related to the meaning of the sentence, what modifies what, and what the sentence is trying to convey. OG11 reflects this type of SCs in the last 20. Best of luck, another tip Practice Practice Practice Practice Practice Practice & time management! V_GMAT
  2. Hi Guys, I scored a 680 (q49 v33). Just wanted to say a big thank you. Discovering this forum totally changed my preparation. Coming on the forum and answering the Quant Qs became my early morning and late evening distractions. I quit my job a month ago to focus solely on the MBA preparation for a Jan Intake. I was therefore working fulltime on the GMAT 8-10 hours a day. I have been doing a test per weekday plus some Verbal questions of the OG11 but only mixe of OGs on the weekend. My score is what I had visualised the day before, this is a NLP technique to achieve goal. I would have prefered to hit the 700 bar but I suppose it is sufficient. I may be a bit disappointed by my Quant score, as I used to regularly have 50, as this extra quant point could have helped me reaching the 700, but I am satisfied and proud of it. Prep material: DS1000 did all of them (as someone was saying in this forum DS can be really slickery) CR1000 did 1/3rd OG11 did all once, and did twice more the SCs Kaplan800 all ETS test 55 48 31 25 Kaplan Tests Diag test + 4 others PrinceTown paper tests and computer base Crack Gmat tests I found that Kaplan Princetown and CrackGmat are not adaptative at all. Their scores are a good 60 below what you can expect on the D day. Don't get demotivated by those. The GmatPrep software is just excellent and very representative of what you can expect. As it is adaptative you can take it several times and have different questions. my personal best on the Gmatprep was 730 and 3 days before the exam 650. The day of the exam make sure you have not left your mind home. This tricky exam is all about concentration I realised. That's why I stopped taking prep exam 3 days before the test, to let my brain cool down. The exam on the day, seemed just easy. I seemed to see all traps in DS and in PS had to guess on last 2 Questions to make sure I don't get penalised for not finishing. For the Verbal I found the SC, what I had prepared most, the hardest one! CR was fine but never felt very tricked during the preparation. And RC amazingly easy compare to some texts I came accross. Mine were all about Business and Economy, and surely thanks to my preparation, didn't find those difficult. As it looked so easy I wasn't overly confident at the end when you are asked to report or cancel your score. I took the Gmat back in Jan and had had the same impression and my score was below 500. As you have 10 min to make up your mind, I took 7 min wondering Report or Cancel! Finally I am fine with the score, and just loved the experience. Now I am looking forward to meet you guys in the B-school. My Backgound: French Telecom engineer, worked in Mexico(1y) and London(4y) and now in Paris working for a British company. I have a good International experience thanks to my assignments ranging from Europe to India. I am aiming at Columbia or INSEAD any views or comments? Above all a big THANK YOU to Lhomme Kroviddy Dynamo grems tytyros ve_boss and those I can't name, for all your great posts. V_GMAT
  3. x = sqrt(8xy-16y^2) => x^2 = 8xy-16y^2 => x^2 - 8xy + 16y^2 = 0 we recognise (x-4y)^2 = 0 hence x=4y
  4. I can accept C as an Answer but I initially chose D, Why should it be rulled out ? Thanks
  5. I got A and fully support samirnajeeb reasoning
  6. IMO E as indeed the assumption seems to be that bird enthusiast defined the specifications of the Binocular
  7. IMO C A,B,C and D are out of scope
  8. IMO B to keep parallelism causing //eliminating + use of much for percent of the population which is not countable
  9. IMO D as the increase sales of fries should be linked to the increase on of customers. Pls comment or OA ?
  10. I get 15=2d+1,5b hence max will be for b=4 and d=4 hence Ans B:1
  11. I guess there is smthg missing in your stem !??
  12. dL distance covered by linda dT distance covered by Tom here the stem asks for Time(2*dT = dL)-Time(dT = 2*dL) = ? Time(dT = 2*dL) After 2 h Linda will have covered 2 and Tom 6 After 3 h Linda will have covered 6 and Tom 12 =>Time(dT = 2*dL) = 180 Time(2*dT = dL) in 1h Linda will have covered 2 and Tom 0 Tom at 6m/h will cover 1mile in 10min and during this 10 min linda will cover a little extra. in other words 2*dT = dL =>2*6*(t-1)=2t => t=1,2h => t=72min Time(2*dT = dL)-Time(dT = 2*dL) = 72-180 = -108 as they mentioned the "positive" difference we expected this difference to be negative and therefore we take the Absolute value 108 Ans E

    Rate

    it takes 75min to fill in 3/4-1/3=5/12 its rate is 5/(12*75) so the total time to fill in the pool at that rate is T = 1*12*75/5=180min so 3 hours Ans C
  14. A+B>=10 and A+B+1 = AA so we have A=1 B=9 and C=0 Ans E
  15. IMO (X-3)/3X L_Rate=3/X L+J_Rate= 3/X + J_Rate = 1 J_Rate= x-3/x if J works 20 min then J_Rate*1/3 = (X-3)/3X OA and comments pls ?
  16. S(x)=Z/X S(y)=Z/Y Both train when they meet will have covered distance Z at the speed S(x)+S(y) during a time t S(x)+S(y) = Z/t (1) We are asked the difference of the distance covered by the train X and Y let's have d those distance. d(x)-d(y)= S(x)*t - S(y)*t = t*[Z/X - Z/Y] (2) From (1) we get t = XY/(X+Y) we replace in (2) and get d(x)-d(y) = XY/(X+Y) * [Z/X - Z/Y] Hence d(x)-d(y)= Z(Y – X)/(X + Y) Ans A
  17. P(Not fail)=0,6^10 P(fail)=1-P(Not fail) IMO C : 1-(0.06)^10
  18. X has 10 elements you add +5 to each of those 10 elements in X => that gives you 10 elements in Y you Substract -5 to each of those 10 elements in X => that gives you 10 elements in Y So 10 + 10 = 20 IMO A But had a doubt whether we should take away the -ve numbers, but nothing is stipulated so we keep them all. V
  19. HTH is Hope That Helps :0! V
  20. Excellent guys ! Many thanks for those clear explanations!
  21. I would also add besides the parallelism, C is wordy and tedious to read. I had D ok !:blush: V
  22. I got E too but to Lhomme's explanation I am wondering in your explanation whether it is rather in the following sense things are modified 1) as it has been for several decades [Modifier] 2) Disneyworld was the top tourist destination in America last year [Main Clause] 3) Welcoming more than 3.8 million visitors[Modifier] in E, 1 correctly modifies 2 and 3 correctly modifies 2. Thanks for your comments V
