  1. Hi there guys, Sorry, I meant to say GMAT Club Math tests. (Gmatclub.com). I did not mean to say Test Magic Math tests. Sorry about the confusion. These forums look so much alike, it is easy to get confused. Paddy
  2. Good idea - Kaplan CD is helpful. GMater-1. Kaplan Math may be a little easier than Actual GMAT Math. On the other hand, actual GMAT verbal may be a little easier than Kaplan verbal. For Math, use Testmagic Math tests. It will improve your score by one of two points for example from 49 to 50 or from 47 to 49 etc. Good Luck. Paddy.
  3. Forgot to post my practics and real scores: GMAT Prep 1: 720 (49 and 38) GMAT Prep 2: 730 (49 and 40) Kaplan 1: 660 (50 and 36) Kaplan 2: 660 (50 and 32) Kaplan 3: 670 (50 and 36) Kaplan 4: 660 (50 and 36). Actual GMAT: 710 (50 and 36)!!! My Kaplan and Actual GMAT scores match perfectly as far the Q and V scores are concerned. I took all of Kaplan tests in the last 2 weeks before the actual GMAT. GMAT Prep 1 and 2 were taken before my first GMAT (690). Paddy
  4. Took my GMAT last week. Obtained 710 (Q 50 and V 36). Just received my AWA 5.0 / 6.0. Ofcourse a little bit disappointed. I think that good 7 hours of sleep the night before the exam day is crucial. I had 4 hours of sleep and I got very tired by the time I reached the Verbal section. I think that good sleep is worth at least 20 points on the exam. It is all about how the neurons are firing during those particular 4 hours. Don't try to cram in anything in the last couple of days. Relax. I had to drive 3 hours the previous evening to get to a hotel near the Exam center. Don't make any of the above mentioned mistakes that I had the misfortune of making. Good luck to all of you. Paddy
  5. Would someone care to explain the 3/2 rule of GMAT Sentence correction. I sure will appreciate it. Thanks Paddy
  6. Hi, Please go ahead and explain the rule so that I am convinced that my understanding of the rule is correct. THanks Paddy
  7. Hi, Could some one please explain the 3/2 rule for me. I find that the rule, as I understand it, is being violated in many SC questions. According the me the correct answer is the one of the 3 and not one of the 2. Please help. Thanks Paddy
  8. Hi, Tough Math problems!! Just exactly what I have been looking for. When I click on th link, the website responds with a message - you can not open this link. Could you email the document to me at psriniva@yahoo.com. I sure will appreciate it. Thanks Paddy
  9. A number line is shown in the question. r s t r, s and t are in the number line as shown above. r is to the left of s and s is to the left of t. On the number line shown above, is zero halfway between r and s? 1. s is to the right of zero. 2. The distance between t and r is same as the distance between t and -s. Please move your mouse over the darkened spot to view the answer. I chose But the correct answer is . With statement 2, we can infer that r = -s, because r is to the left of s in the number line. So s can not be negative. If s were negative, r would be to the right of s. So, zero should be halfway between r and s. Case closed. Your explanation is much appreciated. Thanks Paddy
  10. The integers m and p such that 2 If r is the remainder when p is divided by m, is r > 1. 1. The greatest common factor of m and p is 2. 2. The least common multiple of m and p is 30. The correct answer is Your help is appreciated. Paddy
  11. There are three blue marbles, three red marbles, and three yellow marbles in a bowl. What is the probability of selecting exactly one red marble and exactly one blue marble from the bowl after three successive marbles are withdrawn from the bowl? (A) 1/27 (B) 3/56 © 3/28 (D) 9/56 (E) 9/28. The OA is After looking up the answer, I used the following logic to reach the answer. Please let me know if I have used the correct logic. There are 9 ways of picking the first marble, 8 ways of picking the second and 7 ways of picking the third. So, the denominator of the probability is 9 * 8 * 7. To come up with exactly one red and exactly one blue also means that we need one red, one blue and one yellow after 3 successive draws. There are 3 ways of picking a blue, 3 ways of picking a red and 3 ways of picking an yelllow. So far, the numerator has 3 * 3 * 3. Additionally there are 6 ways of combining Blue, Red and yellow. Here is the list: RBY, RYB, BYR, BRY, YBR, YRB. (Straight Permutation). so, the total ways of picking the numerator is 3 * 3 * 3 * 6. so, the probability is 3 * 3 * 3 * 6 / 9 * 8 * 7. This give us the answer. Please add your comments and clarifications. Paddy
  12. If a and b are positive, is (a^-1+b^-1)^-1 less than (a^-1 *b^-1)^-1? (1) a = 2b (2) a + b > 1 In my opinion the answer is Because the equation boils down to Is ab/a+b
  13. Hi germs, Are you sure that the answer is A. Because the question says that the equation is true for all values of X. IN that case, 2d must be equal to b and c must be equal to d^2. So, answer is D right as explained by Dynamo. Let us know. Paddy
  14. I took GMAT about 5 years ago - Computer Adaptive test in Detroit. Obtained 640. Now, I am planning on taking GMAT again. Took 2 Diagnostic tests recently from Official GMAT people (mba.com). In the 2 tests I got 720 and 710. I do not thing my skill set has changed any. How come I am getting up to 80 points more. Are diagnostic tests easier than the actual tests? I did take 1 hour break between the Verbal section and the Quantitative section. In the real test only 5 minutes break is allowed. I am wondering, if the grading scales have changed? Does 720 now mean the same as the 720 from 5 years ago? Just wondering Your response is highly appreciated.
