  1. Hello TMers, I'm reloading this thread to know if any of you guys has worked through Jehle-Reny chapter 5 (General Equilibrium), and would like to kindly share/comment some of the solutions with me. Thanks in advance :)
  2. Well, I've got admitted to Chicago with 300V. But I think it is because I'm intertational applicant... So, I think a 380V might hurt you if you are native speaker, which I doubt. Am I right?
  3. I had nightmares... but finally I got somewhere (and also surprised I got to my top somewhere)
  4. Where did you hear about this theory? or is just your hunch? It basically says that the future performance of an economist can be predicted during the first year... Am I wrong? I found it interesting
  5. That sounds perfectly reasonable. Thank you tm_guru.
  6. Hahahaha, Well, I think for me that's not that harsh. I do some workouts before having breakfast, and then I come to work, so I think keeping to my schedule would not be a bad idea... Any other thought?
  7. This is a really important factor for me and my wife. I have been working 9-5 in the US for almost 2 years. In the beginning, my wife and I had a extremely bad time, mostly because of the cultural shock, the language, far away from family and supportive friends, etc. Thankfully, we are already used to each other and to the environment. However, I think there will be a new challenge now that we are moving out to Chicago, and will have to make friends and create another supportive environment there. Regarding this topic I would like to ask something to the people that already passed the first year under similar circumstances: How many hours a day were you really studying during the first year? I'm asking this because for example, you wake up at 6AM, then begin studying at 7AM and finish the day at 8PM. That would be around 10/11 hours a day including classes. Is that enough? Or do you think you may be studying till 11PM everyday? I think that in the long run, that would be impossible, given that you will be sleeping around 6 hours a day for a year. Please give me your thoughts about this issue, specially is you have a significant other with you...
  8. Hi mmhosen. I will be attending Chicago as well. Don't know whether showing a label with my nickname during the math camp would be a great idea, but we can figure out some way to recognize us. Also, feel free to send a private message any time. Cheers.
  9. I would go to Columbia too. Two reasons: (1) Despite the fact that in Columbia you will be around a lot of people, I don't think all of them will be applying to PhD in Economics afterwards. I think that Columbia definitely will open more doors than AU. (2) If you plan to attend a PhD anyway, a Masters in Statistics from Columbia won't hurt you, unless your subjective valuation of time is binding. I would think this way. Think in the present value of both projects and do the math. If I were you, given my "beta", I would go to Columbia without a doubt. Spending two years in a Masters in Statistics at Columbia vis a vis "saving" those two years in the long run is worthwhile.
  10. I didn´t have any other alternative. Accepted the UChicago offer last week. ;)
  11. Lucia states in the first paragraph the response to your question: She was all the time talking about her boyfriend.
  12. Very inspiring story Lucia. I understand your position right now. I came to the US for work and left my girlfriend in my home country. After that, I felt that none of this had any sense without her and ask her to marry me. I hope everything works out for both of you guys.

  15. Yes, if you have a letter from an external benefactor saying that you have a one-year fully funded scholarship, then it would be really important you to email Upenn attaching the letter and show strong interest in attending. That strategy definitely worked out for the folks I´m talking about.
