  1. In the xy co-ordinate lines l and k intersect at (4,3). Is the product of the slopes of the lines negative? A. The product of the x intercepts of the two lines is positive. B. The product of the y intercepts of the two lines is negative. OA is C. Please explain
  2. If 500 is the multiple of 100 that is closest to x and 400 is the multiple of 100 closest to y, then which multiple of 100 is closest to x+y? A. x B. y OA is E. Please explain
  3. What is the result when x is rounded to the nearest hunderth? A. When x is rounded to the nearest thousandth the result is 0.455 B. The thousandth digit of x is 5. OA is C. Please explain
  4. If y>=0, what is the value of x? A. |x-3|>=y B. |x-3|= OA is B. Please explain
  5. What is the greatest area of a triangle with one vertex on the centre of a circle with radius 1 and other two vertices on the circle? A. [sqrt (3)]/4 B. 1/2 C. pi/4 D.1 E. sqrt 2 OA is B. Please explain.
  6. 1. If d is a positive integer and f is the product of first 30 positive integers, what is the value of d? A. (10)^d is a factor of f B. d>6 2. In the xy co-ordinate lines l and k intersect at (4,3). Is the product of the slopes of the lines negative? A. The product of the x intercepts of the two lines is positive. B. The product of the y intercepts of the two lines is negative. 3. In the fraction (x/y) where x and y are positive integers. What is the value of y? A. The least common denominator of (x/y) and (1/3) is 6. B. x=1 4. If 500 is the multiple of 100 that is closest to x and 400 is the multiple of 100 closest to y, then which multiple of 100 is closest to x+y? A. x B. y 5. What is the result when x is rounded to the nearest hunderth? A. When x is rounded to the nearest thousandth the result is 0.455 B. The thousandth digit of x is 5. 6. If y>=0, what is the valie of x? A. |x-3|>=y B. |x-3|= 7. A store purchased 20 coats that each cost the same price and then sold each of the for the same selling price. What is the store's gross profit on the coats? A. If the selling price per coat had been twice as much the gross profit would have been 2400. B. If the selling price per coat had been 2 dollars more then the gross profit would have been 440. Please explain your answers.
  7. For every positive integer n, the function h(n) is defined as the product of all numbers from 2 to n inclusive. If p is the smallest prime factor of h(100)+1 then p is A. Between 2 and 10 B. Between 10 and 20 C. Between 20 and 30 D. Between 30 and 40 E. Greater than 40 Please provide answer and explain. Thanks!
  8. 1. As a result of the ground-breaking work of Barbara McClintock, many scientists now believe that all of the information encoded in 50,000 to 100,000 of the different genes found in a human cell are contained in merely three percent of the cell’s DNA. (A) 50,000 to 100,000 of the different genes found in a human cell are contained in merely (B) 50,000 to 100,000 of the human cell’s different genes are contained in a mere © the 50,000 to 100,000 different genes found in human cells are contained in merely (D) 50,000 to 100,000 of human cell’s different genes is contained in merely (E) the 50,000 to 100,000 different genes found in a human cell is contained in a mere The answer is E. Can someone please explain?
  9. Score Interval Number of students 50-59 2 60-69 10 70-79 16 80-89 27 90-99 18 The table shows the distribution of scores of a group of students. Which score interval contains the median of the 73 scores? Please explain.
  10. y >= 0 (y is greater or equal to zero) What is x? 1. |x-3|>=y 2. |x-3| Please explain your answers.
  11. When a positive integer n is divided by 3 the remainder is 2, and when another positive integer t is divided by 5 remainder is 3. What is the remainder when nt is divided by 15? 1. n-2 is divisible by 5 2. t is divisible by 3. The OA is C. I just wanted to know if 6 would be the remainder when nt is divided by 15. Also let me know your approach.
  12. I believe that OA is correct. from 1 Since x> y and x+y>0 so x has to be positive Now y can be negative or positive. If y is positive then from the given condition x>y we can say x>|y| if y is negative then for x+y to be positive x has to be greater than the value of y i.e x>|y| So A is sufficient from 2 y is negative as explained earlier if x+y has to be positive x has to be greater than value of y So B is also sufficient Answer D. Please let me know if you think otherwise.
  13. A jar contains r red marbles, w white marbles and b black marbles. A marble is drawn at random from the jar. Is the probability that a red marble will be drawn greater than the probablity of chosing white marble? 1. [r/(b+w)] > [w/(b+r)] 2. (b-w)> r Please explain.
  14. The answer provided is C. However I prefer B.
