@Ranjeet. My verbal prep was pretty much the standard set of stuff everyone does. SC: OG 11, OG Verbal, Around 250 questions from 1000 SC. Flipped through Spidey's notes but couldnt revise any of the stuff that I ve mentioned. CR: OG 11, OG Verbal, LSAT CR - Some 150 questions. I was actually doing pretty well here, but somehow I found the CR part the most challenging in my exam yesterday. It might more be due to bad time management in verbal rather than not being able to solve em. RC: I was doing pretty well in RC even before I started preparing. My RC prep only involved around 60 LSAT passages. I didnt hve the time to go thru OG for this. My scores in verbal started off wid 36 (no prep) and then I was consistently scoring around 45 at the end. I think i missed 2-3 points in the verbal eventually. Exam SC: Unless I really screwed up, I think most of em were pretty straightforward. No absurdness watsoever. RC: 3 passages - 2 paras each. Two of the passages were extremely simple to understand with simple questions. One of the 2 para passage although short in length was more of a brain teaser. The wording was complex and I took time to understand the passage. When I reached around question 30, I had a lot of time in my hands but then came this huge RC passage with 4 paras. I did not manage my time properly in this and probably screwed up a bit at the end bcos of this. What I followed: - Regardless of the time it took, I never jumped to RC questions without getting the jist of the passage. This did cost me some minutes at times but it was more often than not helpful in my case. - SC: I used to strike off 3 of the 5 questions immediately after reading the answers. Never form an opinion of the answer before going thru all the choices. I normally used to look for reasons to cross out the 4 options before choosing the best one. - CR: I was somehow good at it from the start but eventually this might ve gotten my score down by 2-3 points. Suggestions: - Its easy to say this but its all abt confidence. Its really not gonna matter at the end if u solved 500 questions or 600. What will matter is how u feel abt urself and how confident ur when ur answering. - Dont delay ur exam by a lot. Dont keep preparing for an endless amt of time (6+ months) and think of scheduling it once ur ready. Go into high pressure mode for 2-3 months, kick some *** and get rid of it. You need to be in the gmat mind frame when giving the exam. - Each one of u wud probably prefer to do more material than wat I did. But even if u cant, dont worry bcos its eventually all abt how many of those 90 questions u get right. Anyways, its an adaptive test with so many ifs and buts, so u hve to be prepared for everything.

I get a chance to write my debrief...rather early I shd say considering my GMAT was scheduled for a lot later than this. I will not bore everyone with the Prep material bcos thrs more than sufficient info on this already available in the forum. I will rather jot down my thoughts on watever I think has helped me during my prep + examination. Thankyou list: -Erin and Bob for starting and being the gurus on this forum. -KillGMAT. Everyone uses this forum and leaves after giving his/her gmat. This guy has stuck around even after giving his gmat just to help out others. He s patiently replied to my innumerable, mostly stupid, emails within 24 hrs. Hats off to this guy for his dedication. - All the others who have been preparing for the last one month..To name some - Queen09, sourav, testtaker, bhole, samrat, gaurav and many others. I m just bad at remembering names. My Preparation - First attempt. Joined the forum on 23rd June, 2008. Initially scheduled my test for the 2nd of November. Due to some reasons, I had to re-schedule it just 2 weeks back. Preparation time of nearly 1.5 months (weekday: 2 hrs, weekend: 4-5 hrs). - My prep was totally revolved around Verbal since I had assumed that I will work on my quant in late october. Due to the re-scheduling, my only preparation for quant was with the GMATPrep tests (yup !, not even OG) which I gave 3 times each (total 6 tests). - Disclaimer: I am an above avg. quant guy. For those who are not that confident with quant, let me tell you its no longer a cakewalk. Getting a 50/51 is getting very rare these days. A good example is the recent trend where many quant studs hve had to be content with 49 itself. My quant went extremely well today and I was dead sure of a 51, but I might hve made a mistake or two somewhr. I m not the right guy to tell you how to prepare for quant, BUT plz plz do not ignore it if ur looking for a 50/51. - Just keep giving GMATPrep as many times as u can. 3 times each is probably a good number. I ended up getting new questions in quant everytime. Verbal too had just a few repeats each time. GMATPrep scores: Prep 1: 730,750,780 (the last one had a lot of repeats, so its not the right measure) Prep 2: 770,770,770 (dunno why, but my prep2 score was just stuck at this :P) Manhattan 1: 710 Due to limited time, I could not give any other test. My expectations were: Great day: >760 Good day: 740-760 Bad day: But I kept hearing abt quant getting tougher which did get on to my nerves, but I quickly balance myself and try not to form any opinions/influence myself -vely just before the test. Examination - AWA was cool. I did not bother too much abt it. Standard topics - just make sure u write probably around 5 concrete passages, 5 lines each. - Quant. Not even one question felt like a total give away. From question 3 onwards, I started getting tricky ones and it continued all the away till my last question. Still, I thought I m getting every question right. Probably, I missed one or two tricks in between. Finished with 2 mins to spare but extremely exhausted. I cant say more bcos my quant prep, as I mentioned above, was only the 6 gmatprep tests. - Verbal. Surprisingly, I did not find verbal very tough in the beginning. Till question 10, I was doing comfortably when I got a few trickly CR's which I might hve gotten wrong. SC's seemed to be simple. I got 4 RC passages (3 - 2 paras each, one huge 4 para towards the end which killed my time management eventually)..I think CR's were the toughest of the lot in my case. However, I had a good feeling while giving the test and was expecting probably around 43-44 in verbal. That was not the case though. I really gotta go somewhr now. I ll probably update my debrief in a day or two. My suggestion to everyone would be to avoid the nervousness/tension/trauma/any sort of depressive feelings. I tried to stay calm and focussed even after all the rescheduling and a sense of urgency. I ll recommend the same for all others. Finally, I know I m not the ideal prep guy to give any suggestions. Thr r lot better gurus around on this forum to guide u guys. But feel free to mssg me with any queries watsoever. Wish u guys all the best.

Should be C. I ll give counter cases for both. Counter case for A: x = 2; y = sqrt(2) x^y = 2^sqrt(2) ; y^x = 2 . Clearly, x^y > y^x. Most cases, the opposite is true..eg. take x = 9 and y = 3. the result is opposite. Note: we cannot take -ve values for x and y in this case. Both have to be positive based on the given condition. Counter case for B: take x= 2, y = 1. The inequality does not hold take x = 4, y = 2. The inequality holds. Combining both of them. sqrt(x) = 2, x = 4. Can solve and get the answer. Answer: C

Hmm..Sorry to hear that..but how much were u scoring in the gmat preps..If you were scoring considerably higher, just go for a re-take next month..ur hastle during the initial verbal ones probably took it away from u.

Enlighten on how can the "pythagoras theorem" get u the answer ? Parallelogram - the diagonals bisect each other. That's it. Not at right angles. Rhombus - the diagonals bisect each other at right angles. This question is abt a ||gm and not necessarily a rhombus. The only possibility when this question can be solved with the info given is if its a rhombus. Ans: E

My answer: A 29x + 15y = 440 (eliminating decimals). There are only 4 values worth checking when 29x gives a multiple of 5/10. 29x = 0,145,290,435. => 15y = 440, 295, 150, 5. Only 150 is divisible by 15. So the only solution is (x,y) = (290,150). B: Clearly, tells nothing

My answer is: C. A: Only tells us that its a rhombus, and not a square. The painted areas will be equal if the figure is a square, but we cant say anything definite if its a rhombus B: Diagonals are equal length. Tells us that its a rectangle/square. Again, only for a square can we be sure that the areas painted will be the same. So we dont hve a definite answer. Combine both - Its a rhombus with equal diagonals -> Its a square. Done. Yes, the areas will be same. Good question though. Whats the OA? And ya, why do u say that the area will be equal if the length of sides are equal. I dont think its true. The area of a rhombus will be lesser than the area of a square if the sides are same.

Definite E...First part of the sentence is a dependent clause, so we need an independent one after the comma..only D and E hit it..with E as the clear winner ..

B: damn awkward D: wrong comparison. Unlike X and Y, ?? (we need Z here) E: Same problem as D left with A and C..C just doesnt seem to convey the meaning at all. Its very badly worded and there is a comparison problem too. I ll go with A. i think we can use 'their' with monkfish..it can come in as plural...tats the only doubt i hve abt A..rest is fine.

I got the same question in GmatPrep..although Krusta's explanation is commendable, I ll mention my approach when I did this..its more of reasoning rather than prooving: Case I: n is even: If u think over it, if n is even - the only extra factor that 2n will have is the number '2n' itself. Take some examples: n = 4 (factors 1,2,4) ; 2n = 8 (factors 1,2,4,8).. n = 16 (factors 1,2,4,8,16) ; 2n = 32 (factors 1,2,4,8,16,32)..try observing this and u ll get why its happening..its bcos the number 'n' is even and '2n' can just hve one extra factor. Case II: We can be very sure that for all odd primes n will have 2 factors (1,n) 2n will have 4 factors (1,2,n,2n) ... Infact Case I alone tells us that we can never have an even number satisfying this criteria..so n is odd. Correct me guys if I m wrong...this is just a working solution for the test and not a mathematical proof..I know thr r lots of math gurus out thr..

1. My answer: C. Keeps the sentence short and clear. A and B screw up the grammar. D and E make it awkward.. 2. My answer: A. I think D is wrong bcos of 'in the past become'...either it be 'in the past became' ...the verb is in the wrong tense.

1. A, D and E are out bcos of the use of patient. It should be 'patients'. No doubt B is better than C.. my answer: B 2. 'known people' is the wrong usage. wrong meaning. C and D are out. E is awkward. Between A and B....bit uncertain here..my answer: A

Answer cant be anything apart from C/D. Other options are just senseless. My answer is: D. C comes close but the problem with C is that it overlooks the fact that the guy may still hve a large campaign fund and that may be the reason for him not contesting. D can never end up being true in any scenario.

Retake - Wats the OA ?

Bloody tricky I must say and I wont be amazed if I get both wrong. 1) E/B for sure but I cant decide between em...will end up picking E. 2) B...seems pretty ok...D comes close though. Give the OA's man..i m sure they r gonna totally away from my thinking..may be stuff like a,a etc. :)

B is the answer I guess. Cant predict anything abt abnormal cells ..A and E are out. Cant predict anything abt nonhuman species (60 is given only for the human liver cell) ..C and D are out.
