  1. What i have in mind are: -UPF -Geneva -Munich -Kiel -Sciences Po Don't know any others. Would love some input, especially keeping in mind the funding aspect? For the sake of this thread, let me expand my interests from International Trade to International Economics Cheers!
  2. Hello All, Which European universities guarantee funding for a PhD, and which ones do you think are the most generous schools in Europe for a PhD? You can also mention the countries (if there are any) where all PhD students are guaranteed funding in one way or the other? Cheers!
  3. Hi all, What are some of the good universities in International Trade in Europe (non-UK preferably)? Also, it would be great if some of you could tell me about the funding opportunities in these universities? Many thanks!!
  4. I would agree. Maintaining a decent blog would take too much of your time, since you would have to update it weekly, if not daily. A website would serve as a better alternative, since you would only have to update it quarterly i would say. A website over a blog anyday in my reckoning! Maybe crankyo is looking for prospective dates who strictly fall under the category of nerdism, or his students! Crankyo, are you one of those with a Professor-TA or TA-student fantasy? :hmm:
  5. Thanks for the link! I’ve browsed through it a bit, and seems better than geocities and the likes. Yea, I was referring to the technologies you’ve mentioned above, particularly CSS. That said, i don’t even know HTML, leave alone those hi-fi techs. This might sound kinda stupid, but do you learn HTML on you own, by playing with it (the way we play with Stata), or do you take some course or something? Again, any idea how much do web designers generally charge, if you happen to hire one?
  6. Dear All, You guys must’ve seen many graduate students with personal websites. I would be entering graduate school this September (destination not finalized) and thought that having a website would be a good idea. Firstly, what do you think are the benefits of graduate students having a website? It might help you in the job market, when you’re applying to academia or international organizations, or maybe to impress your students while being a TA! But what else? Secondly, most of us won’t know how to make a decent website, coz we were too busy using Stata, Matlab, and of course lurking/posting on TM! You can always use Geocities, Angelfire, or Tripod but thay’re awfully generic, no matter how much you customize them. So if that’s the problem, how do you have one? Learn website programming? Pay someone to make it for you? (btw, it would also be interesting to know how much it costs in Europe and North America to have someone maintain a website for you).
  7. Truedog, you're one of my favorites here man! I mean not many people would come here and tell the forum that they couldn't make it through the prelims, and even with that you've got a very very positive air about you. Alot of us (atleast me) can learn from you! You must've made your decision by now, but if you leave this forum for good, alot of us would lost out on some sage advice. So keep coming back every now and then, and see whts up in here! The first time i "noticed" you on this forum was when you replied to my "Nobel prize '08" thread by saying , and that was a time when i was new to this forum, and with that post of yours i felt was getting some kind of TM recognition :grad: This forum would miss you!!
  8. Any news whether Queen's has sent out MA rejections yet?
  9. Thats great. I'd take a funded admit like UWO in a heart beat! Goodluck!
  10. Hello everybody, I was just curios, and thought i'd ask you guys. I've heard some people saying that the European PhD programs' have a course work which is less math intensive compared to US PhD programs. How true is that? Secondly, we've compared US and European PhD programs alot in here, but do you think a Top-30 US PhD coursework would be more rigorous** than the coursework of the European tops (TI, Toulouse, Tilburg, UPF, Oxbridge etc.)? ~Cheers! ** Higher difficulty level, and more hours/week spent studying econ textbooks and solving problem sets.
  11. With regards to Waterloo being preferred in your home country, i don't see that happening really. You would be looking for a job in academia/international organizations, and within the Economics circle in Pakistan people do know that UWO has higher repute compared to Waterloo. You'll certainly learn more in UWO compared to Waterloo. My advice: Don't let UWO go! Just curios, what actually makes you say that Waterloo is preferred in Pakistan?
  12. Zulkafl, you got accepted by both UWO, and Waterloo but got rejected by Guelph!! I find the Guelph rejection fairly strange. What do you think might be the reason?
  13. You guys think that the waitlists in different schools would go deeper down this time round? (since the number of applications per person have also gone up, apart from the number of applicants themselves) Usually how deep does the waitlist go? i.e., how many students generally opt out of a given program (Non-Top-10).
  14. Btw, do you guys think that the waitlist in most universities would go deeper this time round? Since quality of applications has gone up, partially due to the fact that the number of applications sent by one person has gone up, eventually a person can accept only one offer. Do you reckon the waitlist would go further down the ladder this time i.e., more people rejecting an offer at a given uni?
