  4. Ans is A for me , its subjunctive case. A good post from BOB The present subjunctive is required in that clauses after verbs of requirement, recommendation, and request. These verbs include: require, mandate, insist, command, demand, stipulate, recommend, propose, suggest, urge, advise, move, request, ask, desire. The present subjunctive is also used in that clauses after adjectives and nouns derived from these verbs: required, requirement, requested, request, desirable, recommended, recommendation, proposed, proposal, suggested, suggestion, advised, advisable, advice, motion, etc. It is also used in that clauses after other adjectives and nouns of requirement, recommendation, and request: necessary, essential, critical, vital, imperative, urgent, important, condition. Here are some real GMAT Sentence Correction sentences that use the present subjunctive: The Gorton-Dodd bill requires that a bank disclose to its customers how long it will delay access to funds from deposited checks. Legislation in the Canadian province of Ontario requires of both public and private employers that pay be the same for jobs historically held by women as for jobs requiring comparable skill that are usually held by men. In one of the most stunning reversals in the history of marketing, the Coca-Cola company in July 1985 yielded to thousands of irate consumers who demanded that it bring back the original Coke formula. The commission proposed that funding for the development of the park, which could be open to the public early next year, be obtained through a local bond issue. Most state constitutions now mandate that the state budget be balanced each year. Despite protests from some waste-disposal companies, state health officials have ordered that the levels of bacteria in seawater at popular beaches be measured and the results published. Judicial rules in many states require that the identities of all prosecution witnesses be made known to defendants so that they can attempt to rebut the testimony, but the Constitution explicitly requires only that the defendant have the opportunity to confront an accuser in court. During her presidency of the short-lived Woman’s State Temperance Society (1852-1853), Elizabeth Cady Stanton, a staunch advocate of liberalized divorce laws, scandalized many of her most ardent supporters by suggesting that drunkenness be made sufficient cause for divorce. Several financial officers of the company spoke on condition that they not be named in the press reports. The new regulations mandate that a company allow its retiring employees who would otherwise lose group health care coverage to continue the same insurance at their own expense for a specific period. Bankers require that the financial information presented to them by mortgage applicants be complete and follow a prescribed format.
  5. to me this sounds to be a wrong Q. A,C,E all are in //. (A) to bathe in cold milk, in strawberries that had been crushed, or in bathtubs filled with black caviar © to bathe in cold milk, crushed strawberries, or black caviar (E) to bathe in milk , strawberries, or caviar

  10. I wud go for C for parallelism. While some propose to combat widespread illegal copying of computer programs by attempting to change people's attitudes toward pirating, others by suggesting reducing software prices to decrease the incentive for pirating, and still others by calling for the prosecution of those who copy software illegally. C) suggest the reduction of software prices for decreasing the incentive for pirating, and still others call
  11. Between as / Like : Like is the correct usage. so A & B are out ! (A) as an expert does—computers that will be used to diagnose equipment breakdowns, deciding whether to authorize a loan, or other purposes such as these (B) as an expert does, which may be used for purposes such as diagnosing equipment breakdowns or deciding whether to authorize a loan BTW C,D,E ... D is out because of WHICH ( no clear odifier ) (D) like an expert, the use of which would be for purposes like the diagnosis of equipment breakdowns or the decision whether or not a loan should be authorized now boiled down to C & E. C is concise and E is wordy so C. © like an expert—computers that will be used for such purposes as diagnosing equipment breakdowns or deciding whether to authorize a loan (E) like an expert—computers that will be used for such purposes as to diagnose equipment breakdowns or to decide whether to authorize a loan
  12. I wud also go for E. and those who are wandering what is resumtive modifier, I just picked up some facts from internet. A resumptive modifier picks up a word or phrase from a sentence that seems to be finished and then adds information and takes the reader into new territory of thought. for ex: Since the 1930’s aircraft manufacturers have tried to build airplanes with frictionless wings, shaped so smoothly and perfectly that the air passing over them would not become turbulent. (A) wings, shaped so smoothly and perfectly (B) wings, wings so smooth and so perfectly shaped © wings that are shaped so smooth and perfect (D) wings, shaped in such a smooth and perfect manner(B) (E) wings, wings having been shaped smoothly and perfectly so
  13. I came across another link ... http://www.www.urch.com/forums/gmat-sentence-correction/109636-due-unflagging-efforts-conservationists.html I am down to B & E ( picked up E ) But I am not sure why E is wrong ??? OA plssss
  14. I vote for E. an amount ... is redundant and after we select a rare bird’s, 20 percent higher than the previous year’s figure has a clear modifier.

Framed by traitorous colleagues, Alfred D was imprisoned for twelve years before there was exoneration and his freedom. b) he was to be exonerated with freedom c) being exonerated and freed d) exoneration and his freedom e) being freed, having been exonerated. Ans C
  20. Use of Being:- Mals24, you are correct. Being is not always wrong. two situations :- 1> When the grammar requires it. for ex: I am afraid of being late. 2> with + NOUN + being + Noun complement There are many reasons to get an MBA, with increased career prospects being teh most important one. But the thumb rule can be , if we dont have the best option availble and being is the Best Answer ... go for it . hope this helps.
  21. my approach : ( ANS E ) The economic forces which may affect the new public offering of stock includes sudden downturns in the market, hedging and other investor strategies for preventing losses, "loosening the interste rates in Washington, and fearing that the company may still be undercapitalized." The clause in "" is modifying strategies and need to be parallel. X and Y. so with this logic I am down to A, D , E. as its modifying other strategies so We need "a" in X and Y. SO down to D & E. in E that clearly restricts the fear. So E.
  22. I wud go for C. I think both sides will be a proper usage if its for something common.
  23. "awarded with" is the right idiom. so down to A & B A sounds good because it has the AND as separator. experts ???
