  1. I would agree with myrrh, and I think that (depending on the rest of your background, obviously) if you do well in either program that you would have a good shot at UCD's ARE PhD program. For what it's worth, of the 19 incoming students this upcoming year, 2 appear to have carried on from the UCD ARE MS program (not sure how many from the program would have applied to continue on though). I will PM you with some other thoughts shortly.
  2. It should be noted that this isn't universally true, however. UC Davis' ARE department has a lot more money than the Econ department does, and budget issues have certainly not manifested themselves as of yet for ARE.
  3. Sorry to hear that. I was notified that I'm in the next group of admitted students and on the waitlist for a TAship, and would be considered for any openings should they arise (not given a specific number on the list though). It sounds like the funding waitlist will be "re-examined again in the 3rd week of March, and then once more in early April".
  4. Waitlisted for TAship at Davis econ. I guess that clears that dilemma up.
  5. Mid-March? Boo-urns. I thought the process would get easier with a good admit...
  6. Congratulations, that's great. How much is it worth per year, if you don't mind me asking?
  7. The email says "...department will provide up to $300 to reimburse you for documented travel or lodging expenses." I assume that everyone who's been accepted so far is invited, but again I'm just speculating.
  8. Not sure if this is helpful, but the open house is Mar. 13 and funding decisions are supposed to be communicated prior to this day. From the sounds of it some people have already been notified about funding, but not everyone. So it's just conjecture on my end, but maybe the second round will begin after the open house, once people start notifying them of acceptances/declines? Not sure if past years' results are consistent with this though...
  9. I've been accepted by both the Econ and ARE programs at Davis, but I received only that message so far for the Econ program (and not ARE). For what it's worth, neither program has an 'Accepted' status for me on the Embark website as of yet. The ARE acceptance was by phone and follow-up email.
  10. No my status hasn't been updated on the website yet (nor have I received the official acceptance details re: funding, etc.).
  11. A little disappointed to not get invited to the flyout (unless it's a domestic/international issue...), but I suppose that no/low funding at UCSB would make it easier to choose UCD without second-guessing myself. If you don't mind me asking, what's the date of the flyout?
  12. My preference rankings for the ARE programs I've applied to are: Berkeley > Davis > Maryland I think that academically Maryland's stronger than Davis, but my wife and I both really want to return to the west coast. If I do end up getting into Maryland I think it would be a tough decision to make. Berkeley would strictly dominate the other two though, definitely.
  13. Mar. 5 has a potluck dinner put on by the grad students, and Mar. 6 has a breakfast and "program". From the email it sounds like about 25 students have been invited. Estimating the number of those that could be expected to accept (maybe half?) and the average entering class size, I'd assume that they'd make more offers down the road, but this is just me assuming obviously.
  14. That's all I've received as well. No worries, just gettin' antsy for the details. I haven't arranged my travel yet, though.
  15. myrrh, Have you received the official letter from UCD ARE (about either the funding details or the open house info)?
